    3. Sorry Kay, I missed this part of your message. [DNA testing to check male lineage is called "yDNA". It will be the male line of his father that you will be testing. If you test a male's "mtDNA" (female DNA), you will be checking/testing his mother's female line (his mother's mother, etc.). Therefore, you will NOT be testing his mother's WILLIAMS line.] Can you explain how it works when Williams cousins marry/have children? My thinking is if they were first cousins, they would still share the same Williams ancestor, therefore be in the same line?. My brother plans to test but this will only take us back to Malkijah Williams who is our grgrgrgrandfather. His mother Mary Elizabeth (Williams) Williams Turner is the daughter of Allumbee. However, family history states that she first married her cousin William Williams, which is perhaps from one of Allumbee (Allen B.) Williams' brother's sons? So perhaps, indirectly the DNA test will solve both of these lines if they are ultimately through the same ancestor Sheryl ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WILLIAMS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WILLIAMS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

MARY ELIZABETH WILLIAMS b:abt1787, m1:WILLIAM WILLIAMS (a cousin) Kay Chestnut wrote --- Sheryl, I will try. 1st an illustration - We think that Elihu WILLIAMS m. a first cousin, Elvira STRAIT 13 Nov 1836 in Greene Co., IL., the ceremony was performed by a John THOMPSON. Yes, Elvira had a different last name, her father was Israel STRAIT. But Elvira's mother was Hannah THOMPSON. We are trying to 'prove' that Elihu was the son of Jonas WILLIAMS. There was a marriage in Mercer Co., KY. 5 Apr 1798 of a Jonas WILLIAMS and an Elizabeth THOMPSON. We think that Elizabeth was the daughter of John THOMPSON & Winifred BRICKEY. And even more researchers think that Hannah (who m. Israel STRAIT) was the daughter of John THOMPSON and Winifred BRICKEY. Thus, Elizabeth and Hannah would be sisters, and their grandchildren first cousins. I think, what Sheryl must be saying is that both Grandfathers were WILLIAMSes and were sons of the same WILLIAMS male (Great-Grandfather). Jack Williams b:1910 TX, d:1992 CA. The one you plan to yDNA test is the son of Jack WILLIAMS (1910-1992). Is that correct? William WILLIAMS was the Father of Jack WILLIAMS? Is that, also, correct? Yes, now I see the problem. MARY ELIZABETH WILLIAMS b. abt 1787 could not pass on any yDNA (male DNA) because she was not a male. Mary Elizabeth never received any of her Father's male DNA and did not pass it on. Sheryl wrote --- Alembe Williams (Allen B. ?)-b:1757 MD (Allen B.) WILLIAMS b. 1757 MD. More questions from Kay Chestnut --- Was (Allen B.) the Father of MARY ELIZABETH WILLIAMS b. abt 1787? Did (Allen B.) WILLIAMS have any sons? Did any of those sons have sons, etc.? Advice from Kay Chestnut --- I think, that is what you need another WILLIAMS male descendant of "Alembe" (Allen B.) WILLIAMS. And then you need to have him tested. If both yDNA samples test out to be close 'matches' with each other, then you will have good evidence that Mary Elizabeth WILLIAMS married a first cousin, William WILLIAMS. If you cannot come up with that other male to test, then hope and pray that Jack's son has a close 'match' with someone else in the WILLIAMS DNA Project. And hopefully that 'someone else' would have a good 'paper trail' (regular genealogical records) back to an 'Alembe' (Allen B.) WILLIAMS. Any questions Sheryl? Or are you still confused?
