    3. Carol: Relating some experiences to this message. In Oct. my husband and I are travelling from here in San Luis Obispo, CA to Memphis, TN to visit Samuel D. Williams. Sam & my Dad's dna were a 37 marker match. Sam's nephew and I have researched this Williams family of W.KY for almost 20 years and had pretty well proven that we were related, but the dna proved our research, without a doubt. There is, however, a Williams family in W.KY about the same time as my GGrandfather, Thomas J. Williams. That other Williams male is also named Thomas J. Williams and is approx 5-8 years younger than my GGrandfather. When his descendant sent me a photo, I was astonished at the similarity between the two men. That is one of the families I am trying to get to do dna testing. Wouldn't that be something, if they were to match. The interesting thing is that I asked the descendant just how tall this fellow was, as my GGrandfather's CW pension file indicated that he was only 5'4". The photo I was sent showed a couple probably in their 50's standing side by side. As the woman was the same heighth as the man, I asked the descendant if her GGrandmother was unusually tall. She said that they were both 5'3" - 5'5". They all seem to be small, have very dark hair and eyes. If you look at CW pension file descriptions of other Williams males from that area, some are described as tall; i.e., 6' and blue eyed. That definitely does not describe my GGrandfather and his children. Sam Williams of Memphis sent me a photo of his father as a young man and the similarity between this fellow Joseph and my Dad & his brothers at the same age, was amazing. We will see, I am anxious to meet Sam and see just how much like my Dad & Uncles he might be. Wish me luck in finding other Williams surnamed male descendants of these W.KY men. As for your question about a connection between my Williams and Duplin Co., NC area. Many pioneers of these W.KY Counties were from the Duplin Co., NC area. That is the reason I have spent so many years researching all of those families. As my GGrandmothers Graddy family in Hopkins Co., KY originated in Duplin Co., NC, there is some possibility that my GGrandfather Williams family might also. Carol Carol Williams <calywi@hughes.net> wrote: Carol What is the connection between the Williams in Duplin Co., NC and those that were in KY to TX? My half-uncles line is in KY, AR, TX. Plus my husband and uncles personalities are almost the same. I am sure that they have to be related and that it all started in NC. 3. How much travel time might there have been between them during the 1790's to 1820's? Could both those in west KY. and those in South-Central KY. have traveled through TN. from N.C. or VA.??? 3. Note: first message in this series of messages. There are also Golightly surnamed folks in Latimer Co., OK to this day. They intermarried with Williams family members.
