Addice, I was going to check on Samuel Jr. for you once I got home (I'm at work) but it looks like he is not who you are looking for - he didn't go back to England. The problem with Hanover Co., VA records is that they were all burned during the courthouse fires during the Civil War and so there are no actual deeds etc. left - if you are lucky and can find a bible entry or something else then you have something to go on - otherwise it is impossible to find anything. I have one of my major roadblocks in my family research because of the Hanover Co. mystery.... I probably will never know unless something miraculous shows up where the missing link is in my Bagby line... Granville is also difficult in that it split up into lots of other counties as well and at various times so it be one where you have to look in various county records to find anything.... ah, the joys of genealogical research! I love it actually. Hello List, I am hoping that someone out there may be able to help me, I am stuck due to no family census before 1850. I need to find out the father of Dr. Daniel Allen Williams, b. 18 November 1839, Duplin or Onslow Co., NC (have confusing reports from census and civil war records) d. 15 July 1905, buried: Dr. D.A. Williams Cemetery, Duplin Co., NC He married Lafatima Basden, 31 May 1861, Onslow Co., NC I found on Family Search in one of the gen records that his father was Lemuel Williams and his mother was Norma Ann "Nancy" Cox. I do know that his mother's did go by Nancy A. for she was living with his family in 1880. In the 1850 census it is just her and the children, Daniel Allen 1839, Mary Ann 1841 and Henry A. 1843. I assume that the father died. Somewhere, don't remember where, I came up for Lemuel the dates of b. 1806, Onslow Co., NC d. 20 April 1868. Of course this is after 1850, so the question comes up did they get a divorce, did they even grant divorces then? I also have a John Williams and Sarah/Sallie Sanders as the parents to Lemuel. If there is anyone that recognizes any of the names and can connect the dots for me please let me know. Thanks for your help. Carol Williams
