Some of the stranger spellings I've seen are: Willyams, Wilyams, Wilyems (I guess someone was using the phonetic spelling) Guilemos, Gillemous (the Spanish name for William/Williams) As someone else also said, if you are using something like Ancestry.com, the best way may be to use the Wilcard search, which enables you to use only the first 3 letters of a surnames along with an asterisk * or a question mark ? and see what comes up.
