    3. Tia, thanks for inquiring about my Williams' line. I joined this list months ago and have read the archives but hadn't written yet to the group about my line. My descent is through both Leroy and Wright Williams (see subject line), born in the early 1800s in TN. Leroy's great granddaughter and Wright's grandson married here in Texas, and one of their children was my father, hence my descent from each TN brother. A 2nd cousin to my dad, Paul, who lived on the land that Wright had come to in SW TX, pulled together everything he remembered his father and grandfather telling him through the years, had it typed, and then gave a few copies to his extended family. When I first began gathering documentation and working backwards, this little booklet was invaluable. But you know how family stories are! His remembrances on some things were quite accurate but others were questionable, so it became a treasure box of clues mostly. The positive part was that he had never traveled anywhere (certainly not to TN) and had done no checking of anything on his own, so he was not influenced by anything except what he remembered his own family telling him. A cousin of mine, recently deceased, and I began serious research. Through the last 10 years of using census, newspapers, court records, tombstones, and some land records, etc. we have traced both brothers back to Lincoln County, TN ties. I am fairly well convinced that their father is Wright Williams (son of Daniel Williams who helped in the settlement of Nashville) and his wife Anna (Davis). Our weak link to connecting Leroy and Wright to Wright Williams, of Lincoln Co. TN, is that Anna's will of 1853 does not name Leroy and Wright as children (which is not unusual, since they had left TN more than 30 years earlier and probably at that time had received their parts of their inheritances), and I have been unable to find other court records connecting the two men to the family (or to any other family there), either because records weren't kept, or because they have been lost (or are still hiding somewhere!). BUT I have considerable circumstantial evidence that continues to point to my feeling of their kinship to Wright and Anna. I would like to correspond with others who have Daniel Williams' son, Wright, as their ancestor, and with descendants of Daniel's other children. One person with whom I corresponded several years ago sent me info she had on some of Daniel's other children. It helped to see those people and their routes of migration. I found that one of the descendants was in the same area of SW TX with my family, helping Leroy Williams' children in an Indian fight, one that took the life one of Leroy's four sons, Daniel. 3. Dawn - Do you know of any male WILLIAMS descendants living now? You could have one or two (or several) of them tested for DNA. There are already about 400 male WILLIAMSes who have been DNA tested and have their results. You might find a distant cousin among these and gain some additional support (evidence) of your connection Wright WILLIAMS or his father Daniel WILLIAMS. DNA testing is not especially cheap, but seaching for courthouse records is not cheap either. Kay born a WILLIAMS with a brother whom I have had tested. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dawn Gore To: williams@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, May 09, 2007 3:20 PM Subject: [WILLIAMS] Leroy Williams, born 1804 TN, and Wright Williams, born 1810 TN, PROBABLE sons of Wright) Wms, Lincoln Co, TN, who was Daniel Wms' son Tia, thanks for inquiring about my Williams' line.
