No, This is not my line. The "cooper" is I used to denote his trade rather than a part of his name. My Joseph Williams moved from Duplin/Sampson County, NC to Anson Co., NC right on the SC border ca 1801 as he was on the Sampson Co. 1800 census and was in Anson County in 1801. He was a Primitive Baptist elder (preacher.) Thanks for your efforts. I don't have any of his descendants found in SC. Dorothy White

I don't have any information on Jacob Williams but would you have any information on Joseph Williams b ca 1747/8 m Martha Parrott/Perritt who lived on the Great Coharrie Swamp in Duplin, the area that became Sampson Co. He sold land to his son-in-law George House in 1792 and to his sons Hezekiah, Parrott/Perritt and William Williams in 1797 and moved to Anson Co. in 1800/01 and died there July 6, 1825. My Joseph Williams was sometimes called "cooper", farmed and became a Baptist preacher. Like the name Jacob, there are no less than 6 Joseph Williams in the Duplin/Sampson Co. area during that time. I have not been able to prove his parents but family lore says he was the son of Joseph Williams and Mary Mewborn. My Joseph and Martha had sons, Hezekiah, Henry, William, Perritt/Parrott, Lemuel, Mewborn Williams, possibly Noah and daughters Edith (Eady), Rebecca and Martha (Mattie.) Those are the only known. Henry married Nancy Herring, Hezekiah married her sister, Eunice Herring and Parrott is though to have married another sister, Rhoda who was a Herring but it is questionable about her being a sister. All but George and Eady House moved to Anson Co., NC shortly after Joseph and Martha went there. Any help finding Joseph Williams parents and/or siblings would be greatly appreciated. Dorothy C. Y'all, Not that I can afford what will most likely be an astronomical amount for the document, there is a letter to the Sec. of War (Edwin Stanton) penned and signed by Abraham Lincoln up for sale on by an auction house. Kay, Thank you for all your efforts to help me understand how DNA works!! Has anyone in your Williams line done DNA testing? What line are you working on? Because there are some unique names/spellings in this line I have wondered: Could they have been Quakers? Could their have been marriages with Native Americans? [Either of which makes it more difficult to locate early vital records] - gen.1 Allen B., Alembe, Alumbe, Alambe, Alembee, Alumbee, Alambee, Allumbee, Alum, Allam B., Allenbee, Allenby, gen.2 Levi, Leven, Levin, Job, Joab, gen.3+ Malkijah, Macijah, Michijah, Makijah, Lige, Kige, Azubah, Asentha, Arsena, Arsenia, Cena Any thoughts? - The other huge clues are found in Maryland and North Carolina. I am starting to look closely at Williams families living in these states, particularly Dorchester, MD and Rockingham, NC. There really weren't that many Williams' in those locations during the 1700's, comparatively speaking of course. - Thanks again, Sheryl N & K Chestnut <nkopportunity@gorge.net> wrote: Sheryl, I have printed most of this e-mail, so I can "mull it over". Sheryl, I have printed most of this e-mail, so I can "mull it over". You do have a lot of information. If I come up with anything, I will write again. Thank you for answering my questions. But I am not sure you have the Maternal Line figured out. Your brother's Maternal Line ends with him. If you are full brother and sister, Sheryl, you are the one who has your mother's female DNA, called "mtDNA". The daughter has only the "mtDNA". The son has both his father's (yDNA) and his mother's (mtDNA). "With or from" the son's DNA sample both yDNA and mtDNA can be tested. But the son cannot pass on his mother's mtDNA. The son passes on only his father's yDNA and only to his sons. Back to the daughter, she never receives her father's yDNA, and she receives only her mother's mtDNA. And the daughter passes on only her mtDNA to both her sons and daughters. But remember the sons cannot pass on any mtDNA. Researching Brosard Williams CSA deceased April 29, 1865 Richmond, VA He and his family were from Duplin County, North Carolina. I found them up until 1870 in Duplin County, North Carolina In 1880 I found Susan Williams and Thomas M. Williams in Sugar Loaf, Sebastian County, Arkansas with a Francis Motler family. Thomas M. Williams had married Lea A. Tucker stepdau of Francis Motler. There family next to Mary J. Williams and Brosard Williams was James Williams b. 1802. It is purported he went to Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas. I don't know if this family could have been Brosard Williams family or his wife's family or just neighbors...Seeking to find the relationship for these two families. Don't know if Mary J. Williams died in Duplin County or moved to Arkansas... There were other sons: Charles F. Williams and George Williams. A daughter Dorothy C. Williams. Any help is appreciated. TIA
In 1910 the family was living in the Cabin Creek District, Winifrede Precinct, Kanawha County, West Virginia and Lewis was listed as "Leute". Address 145 (possibly coal company housing) Leute Williams, age 39, in his first marriage for 12 years, coal miner born in Ohio, parents born in VA Hattie, wife, age 31, in her first marriage for 12 years, , had 3 children, all three living, she and parents born n WV Gilbert, son, age 12, born in WV Bertha, daughter, age 10, born in WV Ruby, daughter, age 4, born in WV In 1920 the family was in the same place: L.E.
