I have posted here previously but now have a major breakthrough. My data is still in shambles and I have to concentrate on one line at a time to keep it straight but I could sure use some help now on my great grandfather Samuel Williams. I had posted here he was in Hempstead Co Ar but it has been brought to my attention that he is the Samuel Williams in Johnson County AR in 1840. Apparently he had a second wife I did not know about. Her name is Jane Gilbreath the daughter of Hugh and Rachel Gilbreath of Johnson Co AR. I need a birth and death date for her or anything else anyone can provide me with. My head is full of new data on what I suspect but I need to try and find paper doucmentation. My Samuel was born about 1807/NC vs TN was in Scott County AR 1850; Sebastian County AR 1860 and 1870. With this new revelation I have also figured out some on the connecting lines but I make too many errors to jump from one line to the other so more later when I can find more on Jane etc. Any little clue anyone has on this family would be most appreciated. Regards. Sue
Yeah that would be great, it is my husband's line, his father's line is all in NC. Do you know if it would be better for him or his Daddy to do the DNA, I would think his Daddy since it is not watered down another generation. Carol, I don't recognize Lemuel or Daniel Allen, however do you know about Adrian Williams DNA project to help identify others who might be related to your WILLIAMS line? If you would like I will post info or you may contact Adrian. I f male Williams from Duplin County would participate it would help us all who are researching Williams in Duplin County and beyond. Good luck in your search. Always do right. This will gratify some people & astonish the rest. -Mark Twain- </HTML>
Anyone have any info on Henry Williams of Cabarrus Co, NC? He married Nancy Allaman/Allemong in Rowan Co, NC in 1811. He was in Cabarrus in 1820 and in Lee Co, VA by 1835 and then Claiborne Co, TN by 1840. Their children were Henry Bartlett Williams, John Williams, Mary E. Williams and Lewis Slaughter Williams. Henry B. and Lewis S. Williams moved back to Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co, NC by 1840 where they were extremely successful merchants and businessmen. Mary E. Williams married Andrew Jackson Sanders in 1842 in Claiborne Co, TN and later moved to Christian Co, MO. There was an older Robert Williams in Cabarrus County early on who was gone after the 1820 census also. Any information appreciated! Hello List, I am hoping that someone out there may be able to help me, I am stuck due to no family census before 1850. I need to find out the father of Dr. Daniel Allen Williams, b. 18 November 1839, Duplin or Onslow Co., NC (have confusing reports from census and civil war records) d. 15 July 1905, buried: Dr. D.A. Williams Cemetery, Duplin Co., NC He married Lafatima Basden, 31 May 1861, Onslow Co., NC I found on Family Search in one of the gen records that his father was Lemuel Williams and his mother was Norma Ann "Nancy" Cox. I do know that his mother's did go by Nancy A. for she was living with his family in 1880. In the 1850 census it is just her and the children, Daniel Allen 1839, Mary Ann 1841 and Henry A. 1843. I assume that the father died. Somewhere, don't remember where, I came up for Lemuel the dates of b. 1806, Onslow Co., NC d. 20 April 1868. Of course this is after 1850, so the question comes up did they get a divorce, did they even grant divorces then? I also have a John Williams and Sarah/Sallie Sanders as the parents to Lemuel. If there is anyone that recognizes any of the names and can connect the dots for me please let me know. Thanks for your help. Carol Williams
Addice, I was going to check on Samuel Jr. for you once I got home (I'm at work) but it looks like he is not who you are looking for - he didn't go back to England. The problem with Hanover Co., VA records is that they were all burned during the courthouse fires during the Civil War and so there are no actual deeds etc. left - if you are lucky and can find a bible entry or something else then you have something to go on - otherwise it is impossible to find anything. I have one of my major roadblocks in my family research because of the Hanover Co. mystery.... I probably will never know unless something miraculous shows up where the missing link is in my Bagby line... Granville is also difficult in that it split up into lots of other counties as well and at various times so it be one where you have to look in various county records to find anything.... ah, the joys of genealogical research! I love it actually. Hi Addice, I asked whether your Samuel Williams might have fallen into newly-created Montgomery Co., as happened to my GxGF, Isham Williams. I don't know Isham's birth year; his wife according to census data was born 1760-1770. He may have married a much younger woman for all I know. Isham died between 1791-1800. He is shown on Montgomery Co. Tax lists and the NC State Census, along with other Williams heads of households - including a Samuel: Montgomery County Records - Legislative Papers, Tax Lists 1780-1782: p. 146: ISHAM WILLIAMS, 400 acres, 2 slaves Other Williamses (same page) were: WILLIAMS, Solomon, invalid, 300 ac , Stephen ...... , Seth, 450 acres, 4 slaves , Samuel, 600 acres , Roger ..... , William, single, 100 acres, 6 slaves ============== NC STATE CENSUS -MONTGOMERY CO., NC - DISTRICT #2 - 3 JULY 1787 by James Butler: page 3: George Sugg, Elija Ussery, Jasse McClendon, John Davidson, John Cheek, William MORGIN, Thomas Mason, ISHAM WILLIAMS, Jonathan WILLIAMS, Samuel WILLIAMS, James Scarbrough, Nimrod Crosswell, Henry Fraser, Amos WILLIAMS, Elizabeth Liley, Benje Handcock, Job Benton, John Butler, Collin(?) Francie, thanks very much for your reply. The Samuel Williams I am looking for was a Loyalist. He and all his sons fought on "the other side". His property in Anson Co. was confiscated. After the Revolution he left for England but died either before or just after the ship landed. I am related to Williams families on both sides during the war. I have lots of info on other parts of the family, and I know Samuel was related to them back in earlier generations, but I just can't quite tie him in to these families. The missing link in my research probably won't be in Anson Co., but in some of the earlier counties the various families lived in: Hanover Co. VA, then Granville Co., NC. I have just over 100 Williamses in my database who are all related to this line. I'll be glad to check what I have if you want to send me some names (be sure to include at least one date even if approximate) as this family seems to use the same names over and over. I would love to see if you have a William WILLIAMS born abt. 1798. I have looked for years for him. There are so many William Williams out there. I do know that he married Cynthia. I think her maiden name could be Hudson. The Hudson comes from one of the children death certificate. They lived in Randolph County, Al. 1850. Blount County, Al. 1860. A lot of Blount County, AL census for 1870 is to faded to read. But 1880 he is still there and died there. His head stone gives his birth as 1976. But 2 out of three of the cenus gives his birth in 1798. Do you have any info on the son Samuel Jr? ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Addice, My ancestor Samuel Williams was born abt. 1738, d. 1816 and was married to Mary "Molly" Williams his first cousin. The lived at first in Rowan Co. NC (which was Anson before that) in the part of the state which later became Iredell Co. NC in New Hope Twp. area. He was born either in Rowan Co. NC or Hampshire Co. WV where his father James Williams was from. His mother's name is unknown. He & Molly had children: James, Sarah, Lucrecia "Creasy", Jane "Jennie", Samuel Jr., Alexander, Edward "Ned", & Theophilus "Offy" Williams. Samuel was a large land owner in the area. Molly was his first cousin by his father's brother Edward Williams & his wife Jane (surname unknown). Edward settled in the part of Rowan Co. that later became Davidson Co. NC. Both Edward and his brother James were the children of Edward Williams Sr. & wife Mary Ann (surname unknown) who lived in old Frederick Co., VA which then became Hampshire Co. VA and is now WV. Does this sound like who you are looking for? Can anyone help with information regarding Samuel WILLIAMS. His wife may have been Mary (?). Who were his parents? Where was he born? I estimate his birth to have been about 1710--1720. He lived in Anson Co., NC at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. Thanks for any help, Addice in Fairfax, VA
Hi Addice, Did your Samuel Williams continue living in Anson Co., NC after the start of the Revolution? My Williams ancestor was originally in Anson Co., but when the county was divided to form Montgomery Co., NC, in 1779, my family fell into the new county. If joseph berry of Ottumwa was the father of Laverie angeline berry, it looks like laverie would have been born in ohio, since some of his ch incl the 26yr old and 24 yr old were born in OH , but laverie was also 24 in 1850 and so would have been a twin to the 24 yr old in Josephs household, so although i cant discount 100% it looks like that may not be my match. Also, if joseph berry was her father why would they go to henry co to get married? was it the closest place to Ottumwa? IN Henry co there is a william berry, in trenton, henry co b abt 1787 in TN , but the other male berrys in Trenton, Henry co were born in IL in 1833 and 1835 and a ruth b 1815 in NY William berry would have been abt 39 in 1826 could be a good age for Laveries father. Also could be good that he was born in TN and so was Laverie according to her self or her husband on the census of all known years. Laverie says in one census her parents were from germany, so who knows --there are still too many questions to make a solid prediction. can anyone thank you list. I am posting this so that others researching this family will see my questions and maybe see something i have missed, or know something about these other berrys that excludes them . I am also posting to berry and Henry co lists so trying to hit all bases. .. gloria

I'm glad you found something, June. Your mentioning of the Christmas family brings to mind that Warren Co. has a lot of info on that family, they were quite prominent in its early history and the formation of the County. If you do a SEARCH from the tab at the top of the page on the website, you'll get plenty of hits for the CHRISTMAS family; the site includes all of the early deed entries for Warren Co. from its formation in 1779 to about 1810 or so. For early deed entries when the County was a part of Bute Co., go to the following website and also do a search because it contains the entries from 1764 - 1778-79, when Bute was abolished and split into the counties of Warren & Franklin: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbute/ Happy Hunting! Recently, there was a message posted about a John Taylor Williams of Warren Co.,North Carolina, by someone seeking his ancestry. I thought I'd let you know that if you haven't done so already, to take a look at the book that is posted online at the Warren Co.,USGenweb site called "Sketches of Old Warrenton", under Chapter XXIX. John T. Williams & his wife, Mary Somerville are the subject of a Chapter in that book, here is an excerpt: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncwarren/warrenton/chap29.htm "It afterwards became the home of John T. Williams and his family. Mr. Williams was a native of Yadkin County, North Carolina, and was a retired officer of the United States Navy. He was a distinguished looking man, with #. great dignity of manner, a very genial nature and much liked in the community. He had married Miss Mary Somerville, the daughter of James Somerville and Catherine Volks, a handsome woman with a marked haughtiness of manner that prevented her being as much liked in the town life as her amiable husband. They had a very large and interesting family:. Catherine, afterwards Mrs. Chambliss, Miss Sue, Mary, afterwards Mrs. Austin Plummer, Rebecca, afterwards Mrs. Dedrick, and Fannie. The last three removed to Knoxville, Tennessee, where Mrs. Dedrick and her husband still reside. Joe lives in Baltimore, the only son to reach manhood." I would also suggest to others doing Warren Co. research that you might want to look through this wonderful resource because it contains references to quite a few families that lived in the area and you might be pleasantly surprised at what you may find here.
