    1. [WILLIAMS] Henry Williams N.C
    2. My ancestor (2 G-grandfather) was H. G. Williams - listed that way in all census records in which he appears and on his tombstone. Civil war records indicate his name was Henderson G. Williams. He was born in April 1832 in North Carolina, but is first documented in the 1860 census of Pickens County, AL and married with three children. A grandson named for him was known all his life as Henry Williams. A Henderson Williams purchased land in Pickens County around 1840 - but my ancestor was too young to be a land owner. I cannot locate any further info on this older Henderson Williams. When did his family leave NC? Who were the parents of H. G. Williams? Where did they live in 1850? 3. I'm not sure if we're looking for William or Henry or both. In Choctaw Co. AL 1870 there is a "Wm" age 68 with a younger wife or daughter Rebecca. It shows him born GA - no mention of a Henry. I brought up a list of all WILLIAMS households in Blount Co. in 1870. No Henry's listed. There are a lot of H Williams in 1870 AL, but not sure what age to look for. 3. James: Have you checked Providence Williams as a father to Stephen Williams? We have a Providence in our line in Newberry Co., South Carolina. I also saw a Stephen Williams with a land patent in Howell Co., Missouri in 1861, about the same time my GG Grandmother, Sarah Jane Norman Williams moved to Missouri from Graves Co., Kentucky. My Williams lines were in Old Ninety-Six District - then Newberry Co., South Carolina during the Rev. War. Daniel Williams and Cassandra Prather Williams. I have found Providence Williams in Virginia and in Maryland. There is a Joseph Williams, wife Lydia, Providence Williams wife Sarah, and Ann Williams Paulson/Poulson husband Richard Paulson/Poulson living in Frederick Co., Maryland 1733. Joseph, Providence, and Ann were siblings. They moved to Orange Co., later Frederick Co., Virginia by 1735 or so. There was a Richard Williams, wife Susanah Peters, in Hampshire Co., West Virginia. He and his daughter Susannah were kidnapped by the Indians. He escaped and 13 years later, Susannah was traded for Indian prisioners. Hope this helps. Daniel and Cassandra are our oldest proven ancestors. We are studk there. Can't find Daniel's parents for sure. Might be Joseph and Lydia in Maryland 1733. Daniel was born abt 1747 in Prince George's Co., Maryland or in Virginia. I keep wondering when I will find them connected. My Williams line is John Carouth Williams > Robert Williams > John Owen Williams > Junius Frederick Williams > Philip Eugene Williams. I think the John Carouth/Robert/John Owen Williams line is pretty well documented elsewhere. They seem to have entered the US in Virginia near Jamestown and then moved to Sampson County, then to Cumberland County in NC. That was true through my grandfather, Philip Eugene. He moved to Florida eventually. My Caldwell line is John Caldwell (b. 1683, married Margaret Phillips and came to US from Ireland) > John Caldwell (b. 1715, married Jane Kennedy) > Alexander Caldwell (b. 1755, married Margaret Looney) > Absalom Caldwell (b 1788) > Alexander Caldwell (b.1809) > Joseph Harley Caldwell (b. 1854) > Benjamin Alexander Caldwell (b.1878) > Ruby Spencer Caldwell (b. 1903). This family came from Ireland in about 1727, to Chestnut Level, Pennsylvania, then to Lunenberg County, Virginia; Botetourt County, Virginia or Pendleton District, South Carolina (haven't had time to sort that one out yet) ; Knox County, Tennessee; Jefferson County, Alabama. They were very early settlers in most of the places they went. Do you see any matches there? I'm always interested in more information and I share. My web site is grannyandpopacaldwell.com. I'm in the process of a big update there. If you are from the same Caldwell family, I have pictures of Chestnut Level and Cub Creek, VA areas and a good amount of information about Jefferson County, Alabama. My grandpa was born to them in 1845 IN but was never found in a census with either his father or mother, but with different relatives of the mother. It is said that they also had 2 other children a girl Martha J. Williams born abt 1847 IN, & another son John Lemual Williams born about 1854 IN but never could find them in any census either. Their mother Rachel Ann Peachee died in Daviess Co., IN in 1858 according to her relatives altho I do not know where, or where she is buried. My William Williams was only found in 2 census, the 1850 Daviess Co., Washington, IN living with his brother Jacob & his family. Then in 1860 he was in Hendricks Co., Guilford, IN living with a family by the name of Perry Ransell. My William Williams was listed as a blacksmith in both these census. Today I went through emails in sequence from several lists and was really surprised to find that indeed there were Williams ancestors being discussed. I respectfully request that posters please change the subject line to indicate the name, date, location of the folks being discussed. I have three proven Williams lines, the latter two of which are of greatest current interest: #ONE -- James Williams (Quaker), b. Wales, m. Anne Lewis 1699 Haverford MM, PA. He died 1707 in Philadelphia. (She later married Henry Bennett & Rowland Roberts.) #TWO -- Thomas Williams, d. between ca 1812-1823, Cocke County TN. Wife unknown. James Williams' family (except my Thomas L. Williams) moved to Cole (now Moniteau County MO). Families surrounding Thomas in early land surveys/grants in Cocke Co: North, Brickey, Lane, Lillard, Smith, Denton, Allan, Large and more. James Williams' children married heavily into Jobe family descendants (not mine though). #THREE -- Edward Williams, d. ca 1799, Richmond Co. NC, believed to be the son of Thomas, possibly Quaker with origins in PA/DE. Associated names: Blewett, Garton, Stone and more. Thank you all for considering clarifying your emails in the subject line. Ann died there in 1860. Can't find William anymore. Most of his children stayed in Henry Co. My ggrandfather was Squire Frank who became a Cumberland Preysberterian preacher. 3. Janet, I don't often respond to much, but I do read them everyday. Your email got my attention quickly, as my ggg grandfather, James Williams did move to Cole County, Missouri. His son Oliver P. Williams, my gg grandfather, was born in 1827 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, so it is assumed he moved shortly thereafter. His wife's name is Ann, and they had the following children: Oliver P., William, John, James Wood, Eli, Barnet, Maria, Hannah, Elizabeth, David, and George. They are all mentioned in James Williams Will, which I obtained from the Missouri State Archives. James was born in the 1790's, probably in PA, and died bef. 15 March 1846 in Boone County, Missouri. Ann his wife is last found in the 1850 Census for Cole County living with Oliver P. and his wife. If this sounds like it could be the same James Williams, I would love to trade some data with you. The descendancy: James Williams to Oliver P. Williams to Robert R. Williams to Harry R. Williams to my mother, Mildred Williams. Thanks for any info you might have. 1. Re: [WILLIAMS] Williams in Jefferson Co., AL
    2. Dorothy White
    3. Rea. Hezekiah Williams and Eunice Herring moved to Jefferson Co., AL about 1820 and Hezekiah died in 1825 from malaria fever. He was the son of Joseph Williams and Martha Parrott/Perritt. There is a Williamsburg, AL that I am told was named after this family. Their children were: Joseph, John, Owen, James, Henry, Calvary, Benjamin (Benjah), Mary Jane, Elizabeth and Catherine Do you see any connection? I have been searching for Joseph Williams parents for a number of years unsuccessfully. He was first found in Duplin Co., NC about 1767 and in the area that became Sampson Co. Joseph Williams served in the Rev. War and around 1800 moved from Sampson Co. to Anson Co., NC. He was a Primitive Baptist elder (preacher.) If you see a connection I will be happy to share my research. Dorothy C. White dotwhite@comcast.net

    1. [WILLIAMS] {Williams} new subject: John Carouth Williams, Sampson County, NC
    2. Okay, I think I followed all the "rules" for the subject line. (This is getting way too hard as far as I am concerned.) I do not want to impose my life and my over-tired brain on any of you, but I don't always remember to change the subject line, include the dates, include the location, turn around three times and spit before I send stuff out. I get something like 5-20 genealogy emails a day and I simply don't find it that arduous to open each one and scan it quickly. If you don't want to read my emails that are not absolutely correct, ignore every single one of them with my name in them. I will be completely happy for you to do so. If you have a small amount of patience, please read along. Does anyone have actual documentation for marriages, death date, etc for John Carouth Williams? I travel near Sampson County once a month and was thinking about going the 2 hours over there to look stuff up. Of course, I would not do that if the documents are already in circulation and I have just missed them. Rae Williams ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    1. [WILLIAMS] locations requested
    2. I would like to respectfully request that when people are posting on the list with specific indifiduals or families, please include a location, be it actual or assumed. With a name like Williams, there are many people from all areas of the country searching. It saves time and energy for all of us if we can see a location and know that this person is in a location we are searching or not. Not always can we say "well maybe" - in my case it is a very specific family that is a brickwall but I know where they were. Simply a request. 1. Re: [WILLIAMS] Pennsylvania
    2. Hi Janet, I see that you have a Williams in PA, so do I, and so far have not found anything further back. My earliest is Josiah Williams, b. about 1807, PA, d. after 1870, in Clarion or Armstrong Co. PA. Might you have anything more on your PA Williams, or might I get really lucky, and you have Josiah? He married Nancy Catherine Buzard, born either PA or Baltimore about 1806. 1. [WILLIAMS] Subject Line Change Request
    2. Hello Everyone, I had been deleting all of the "polite" emails, assuming this was a non-genealogy discussion. Best Regards, Janet (Baugh) Hunter ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
