I saw the same thing years ago on another surname list. It is a genealogy joke that we can all enjoy. We need to laugh at our obsession from time to time. Diana
I just came upon an ancestress who sued her husband for running away with a slave in 1835, leaving the wife penniless and powerless. The court suit reminded me of what happened when my parents divorced 133 years later, except for the slave part. The truth of that tail is important because my mother remembers the child of that marriage as STERN and humorless. I guess she was -- when she was 15 her father ran off with a slave and left his wife and daughters penniless. I'd probably be humorless too. But it explained some things. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Oh yes. Never would I allow a word or any part of a document or record to be changed on those precious papers. From them we learn how our ancestors thought and lived. Dorothy C. White dotwhite@comcast.net 804.795.4296
Does anyone share this migration pattern? The general migration for my Williams line begins in Dorchester Co., MD 1757> Guilford Co., NC 1781; Rockingham Co., NC> Logan County, KY> Sumner Co, TN 1804 > Lincoln Co., MO 1821> Gonzales, TX [DeWitt Colony] 1830. Not all of this line went to TX but those that did were there by 1830 when it was still the Republic of Texas.

That is a treasure and a fine play with words. It is hilarious. Dorothy White
An amateur genealogical researcher discovered that his great-great uncle, Remus Williams, a fellow lacking in character, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows. On the back of the picture is this inscription: "Remus Williams; horse thief; sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887; robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives. Convicted and hanged 1889." In a Family History subsequently written by the researcher, Remus's picture is cropped so that all that's seen is a head shot. The accompanying biographical sketch is as follows: "Remus Williams was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1885, he devoted several years of his life to service at a government facility, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed."
In today's Abilene Reporter-News (TX) an obituary for the above individual He was born in Mills Co., TX parents are not named, both deceased If this person is of interest to you, the full obit should be online at either the newspaper or see if McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater, TX has a website. I have no connection to him -just thought someone on the list might. Judith Williams Busch
Judy: I am actually looking for H. G., H. , (possibly Henry) Williams, age 18 or 19 in the 1850 census (he was born in 1832). He was born in NC and is in AL when first documented in 1860. He could be in either state or in any state between. I have no clues about names of his parents or siblings. His first three children were named for famous men (Andrew Jackson, Benjamin Franklin and Napoleon). How old was your uncle at time of death? Frank Horton ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Thanks for responding. i am not sure. I believe he was born June 15, 1891. this is supported by the 1930 census when he lived at 1515 1/2 Main street in Elwood, Indiana. He was in the Anderson city Directory in 1941 and again in 1943. When he moved to Middletown I don't know. His death certificate is all mixed up. Birth date is wrong and his parents names are also wrong. His mother was Ella Russell Williams and his father was John W Williams I can't find Ella anyplace. She and herschell lived at 419 8th Street in Anderson in 1943. Herschell, as mentioned above was still there in 1943 but ella was not. > > From: BushBar@aol.com > Date: 2007/06/21 Thu PM 12:28:28 EST > To: williams@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [WILLIAMS] Herschell Williams > > How old was your uncle at time of death?
