I've "rescued" an old photograph of John Morris WILLIAMS which was taken at the Jones Studio in Madison, Wisconsin. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with John appearing to be in his 20's or 30's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I believe that this may be a photograph of John M. WILLIAMS b. 26 May 1852 at Spring Green or Dodgeville, WI to parents Thomas Neziah WILLIAMS and Elisabeth A. MORRIS. John M. WILLIAMS married twice, first to Martha A. DAVIES or DAVIS on 24 Mar 1886 in Wyoming, WI, and second to Mary Jane DAVIS on 23 Dec 1896 in Columbus, IA. John died 22 Mar 1922 in Columbus, IA and is buried there as well. I'm hoping to be able to return the photograph to his family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
I'm Kay B., and looking for ancestry on Josiah Williams (1807-1870), born and died in PA, probably Armstrong or Clarion Co. Kay
To which Kay was this question directed? Also, I do not understand your question. your question - Which # Kay does your Williams match? I am Kay C., my GGrandfather (James Riley WILLIAMS) had a sister Mary Ann WILLIAMS, her niece (Ora) remembered her as "Polly Ann", but no exact dates. Now, 60+ years later, the facts are: Mary Ann WILLIAMS b. 13 Apr 1845 probably Washington Co., IL., 2nd daughter of Elihu and Elvira (STRAIT) WILLIAMS, no known marriage, and d. 5 Oct 1928 probably Jasper Co., MO. She was buried next to her brother Wm. Preston WILLIAMS (1859-1939); if I remember correctly the cemetery book reads "Marylin WILLIAMS". In my Williams line, my great grandmother's name was Mary and her nickname was MOLLY which was also used instead of Mary. They sure knew how to confuse us :). Karen ************************************** Get a sneak peak of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

Hi Kay I have so many John W. Williams that I have chased over the past 10 or 15 years that I am not sure what I have. The only constant that I know to be true is taht my John W did have sisters Nora and Emma and that Nora had a daughter named Caroline. Carolines married surname (if she married) is anybody's guess. I am on vacation now but will bw home after the 19th of July and then I'll look into what I have. I am just not sure the more I think about it that John W's parents were Calvin and Adde. I may have mixed up my grandmothers parents. I'll straighten this all out later. > From: "N & K Chestnut" <nkopportunity@gorge.net> > Date: 2007/07/11 Wed PM 04:39:22 EST > To: <williams@rootsweb.com> > Subject: Re: [WILLIAMS] To Edward Jennings > > Ed wrote -- > Please stay with me and when I get home i'll give you all the info I have. > > Kay C. wrote -- > I think this is being directed toward me. So far I haven't found anything on my Williams line which starts with Phillip, Sr. about 1742 when his first son was born. But I can shed a little light on Mary (Polly). At least it is my opinion. For several generations, it seems people used nick names much more than now. In tracing my various family lines, I found Mary was always "Polly". Ann was Nancy. Margaret was Peggy. Robert was Bob, John was Jack, William was Bill. And of course a little kid with red hair was "Red". Early on, children were given Biblical names and then they gave names that indicated character or traits, such as Thankful or Patience.
I have a Calvin Williams m. to Polly Ann ____________Williams of Smith's Township, Duplin County, North Carolina...He was b. about 1816 one daughter I know of was Barbara Catherine or Catherine Barbara Williams m. ________Hardison...was in NC in 1853 per estate records. Always do right. This will gratify some people & astonish the rest. -Mark Twain- </HTML>

I have one Polly Ann WILLIAMS b. Mar 1839 d. after 1910, daughter of John WILLIAMS. I have several "Mary Ann WILLIAMSes", often called "Polly" or "Polly Ann". In years past I thought that "Polly Ann" was used to denote (show) a "Polly Anna" attitude; but I have dropped that idea. My WILLIAMSes may have come out of North Carolina; but so far they are "stuck" in south-central Kentucky about 1798-1820, with a yDNA match to a WILLIAMS line in TN. Ed wrote -- Please stay with me and when I get home i'll give you all the info I have. Kay C. wrote -- I think this is being directed toward me. Yes, I will be here, if the Lord is willing. Ed, it is possible that the John W. WILLIAMS to which I referred [b. about 1846 m. Jan. 1870] was also the son of John WILLIAMS. [b. about 1801 d. Mar 1854 m. about 1828]. These Johns are not in my direct line; so, it is even more difficult to remember the details. Yes, the given name "Calvin" was also used in this group of WILLIAMSes. But I do not see an "Adde" in the female list. I am not at my home now and won't be until after the 19th of this month. I have been on another project for a long toime and at 79 years of age my memory is not to good. However, I am smart enough to record data as I get it. It seems to me that My John W. Williams was the son of Calvin and Adde Williams. Don't take this as fact. I will confirm or change this staement after I get home. Please stay with me and when I get home i'll give you all the info I have. My John married Ella Russell in Tipton, Indiana in 1883. I have their marriage license but for some reason their respective parents were not listed on the license. Seems to me that he passed away in Elwood, Indiana in 1927. I can confirm this date and locatiion when I get home. Also there is a long story about my John which I don't want to take the time now to tell now but I will try to remember to tell you when I get home.
