Do you have any information on this James Williams of Duplin Co., NC with a reference to Lodwick Williams in Baltimore Co., MD who possibly would have been the grandfather or ggrandfather of Joseph Williams b in or near Duplin Co., NC about 1747/8? I cannot find Joseph's father or any siblings but Joseph Williams is first proven to be in Duplin Co. in 1784 - that part that became Sampson Co.? My Joseph Williams married Martha Parrott/Perritt and their first child was born in 1767, Edith (Eady). Next child was Henry Williams b Aug. 23, 1769. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Hey Lynn, Ok, here's part of what I have on the family. >From the public records that I've found I've guessed John to have been born in 1803 and records claim Belmont County. I have not been able to find a death record for John as of yet but he appears to have died before 1900. I found Elizabeth listed with their daughter Mary (Williams) Burch also listed as a Widow. Elizabeth was born abt 1816 and records show someplace in Ohio. She died somewhere between 1900 - 1910. Again, so far I have not located a death record for her. John and Elizabeth were married Jan 28, 1836 in Belmont County, Ohio. I have their children listed below: 1.) Martha Ann Williams b 1/1/1836 d 2/20/1894 m James N McHenry son of Robert McHenry and Elizabeth (Burch) McHenry. 2.) Mary E(may be Elizabeth) b June 1837 d ? m Talbert Burch 3.) Elizabeth Williams b abt 1839 4.) Maria Jane b abt 1840 d 1878 m Jesse Burch son of Zephanaiah and Ruth (McHenry) Burch. 5.) John Cross b Sept 3, 1842 d May 7, 1945 m Samantha Burch daughter of Richard T and Isabella (McHenry) Burch. Richard adn Zephanaiah were also brothers. 6.) James Williams b abt 1846 and birth was listed as Virgina m Eliza Leep 7.) William Williams b abt 1848 8.) Margaret Burch Williams b 1/14/1859 d Oct 24, 1925 birth was listed back in Ohio. m 1/18/1877 to Andrew Jackson McHenry son of James and Mary Jane (Moore) McHenry. Here is a copy of John's obit and a correction to the obit: Copy of his obit May 8th 1945 Moundsville Daily Echo (OBIT CORRECTION) Service Thurs for J. C. Williams Funeral services will be held Thur afternoon at 2:00 at the Grisell Funeral Home for J. C. Williams 102. Marshall Counties oldest resident who died Monday evening. Rev. E. M Flanigan, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church will conduct the rites and burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In yesterday's paper the Echo had the place of residence as an error. The Williams family quite recently moved to what is known as the Bert McNinch farm on the Lone Oak Road, which turns off Route 250 just east of Camp Washington and toward Wolf Run. The Willliams Family had resided for some years on the former Miss Sallie Cresap farm on Cresap Hill road near Taylors Ridge. Obit Echo May 7 1945 J.C. Williams 103 stricken John C. Willliams age 103 years last Sept oldest resident of Marshall County died at the home of son, J. N. Williams on Cresap Hill Road this morning at 6:30 o'clock. He had been ill but a few days and up until 2 years ago had kept the dairy barn in good shape. He was a native of Belmont Co. OH born Sept 3, 1842, a son of the late John C. and Elizabeth STRINGER Williams. He came to Marshall Co when he was 15 yrs old and spent the rest of his life in this area. He was a member of Grace Chapel Methodist Church on Burch Ridge. Until recent years he did considerable work around the farm despite his age. Surviving are 3 sons: J.N. Williams Earl C. Williams of Wellsburg and Friend Willliams of Moundsville, 3 daughters Mrs. Mary Belle COULTER at home Mrs. Georgia MARKWOOD of McMechen and Mrs. Bessie HINDMAN of Steubenville, OH. 12 grandchildren 11 g-grand children. The body is at Grisell Funeral home pending arrangements of services. If the first obit has any truth to it then it listed his wife as Elizabeth Stringer. Which makes me believe that Elizabeth and Rebecca were sisters. Also, if the family did move to (West) Virginia when John was 15 then that would have made the year 1857. However if Margaret was really born in Ohio then they would have to have come back by the 1860 census. From 1860 - 1880 John sr was shown living in Franklin district, Marshall County, West Virginia. I have copies of the census records if you're interested. My wife's line went through John Cross Williams jr. I had found a record stating that while John jr was not in the Civil War, he did serve as a member of the. The rest of the record recorded was missing. I still need to go back and see if I can find any kind of military records for him. As of yet I've not found any records showing who John sr parents or siblings possibly were. I have a large amount of info on the rest of the family. Let me know if you have FTM or not. I know that I asked before and cannot for the life of me remember. Ok, here in Michigan it's about 11pm and I have to be up in a few hours for work. I'll try to get that Obit to you for John Stringer tomorrow morning. It appears that the John and Elizabeth Stringer my wife's GAunt listed for Elizabeth Williams parents was probably wrong. Take care and let me know what you think. Hey Lynn, That's the family you and I have talked about before. I'll try and get more info to you tonight but thought that I had sent you a copy of John's family line. I believe just before the 1860 census they moved to Marshall County, West Virginia. I have a copy of John's obit and if I remember correctly they listed in there the year that the family moved. I do believe that Elizabeth and Rebecca were sisters. However, I haven't found anything to prove it yet. I was hoping a marriage license would show Rebecca's parents names but have not had any luck as of yet finding it. So that search still goes on. I'll try and get you more info later tonight though. Sorry, just got into email and saw your 2 messages. I still owe you that one obit and estate info, will try and get that scanned and emailed first thing in the morning. I've lost a contact. William WILLIAMS married to Ann Titus WILLIAMS was sought by someone. I stumbles onto the Henry Co. Mo. Obit. They had 6 children; Samuel, infant,; Lee d before 1876 but had 3 children of his own.; Helen md. She had lived in Washington(state) until 1921. her husband and 5 children receded her Surviving were Calvin(JR), Harvey, Benjamin , Belle COREY, all of Washington, and Mrs. John Dehn of Clinton, Mo. Other of Wm & Ann include; Mary Jane, Dorothy Jane (Mark SHELTON ),j. Matilda, Mary E. and Henry Clay b1846. I am not at all positive of this list. So if any one knows more let me know. We especially look for the death and burial of William 1806- ??? an Ann nee TITUS, which we think died 1860. I have not done the census track on them. I know from Co. History, some of the men went to California for gold It says Frank did. Either Frank or his father William was an overseer of Major Ashby's slaves. ASHBYs are married to Tituses or perhaps Martian. But that is another tangle. Bud.
The Providence Williams in our Williams line was born 1808 probably in Newberry Co., South Carolina. He died in Graves County, Kentucky 1841. He married Louise Walker. I only have two children listed, but am sure there were more. E. Abigail b 1838 in Graves Co., KY S. J. Williams (female) b 1840 Graves Co. KY There was also another older Providence Williams. He was in Frederick Co., Maryland 1733 with wife Sarah and brother Joseph (wife Lydia) and their sister, Ann Williams Paulson/Poulson. They moved to Orange Co./later Frederick Co., Virginia. Joseph Williams could be the father of our first proven ancestor, Daniel Williams born abt 1747 in either Maryland or Virginia. This Providence was married to Elizabeth Gary. They had a son Stephen Williams Also a daughter Abigail who married her 1st cousin (my GGG Grandfather) Josiah Williams. He married 2nd, my GGG Grandmother, Mary L. Polly Tweedle. Thank you Jackie. My parents were born and reared in Union Co. (Monroe if the county seat). I have drained everything there and Duplin/Sampson Co., NC. I have 4 file folders on the Williams (my grandmother was a direct descendant of Joseph and Martha. Thank you. I am always hoping for something new but records back that far are very hard to obtain. Duplin Co. records were buried for safe keeping as the British were coming near in the Rev. War. After it was over those records were never found again. Also there were 6 Joseph Williams in that area at the same time and that is extremely complicating. Dorothy C. White dotwhite@comcast.net 804.795.4296
Approximately 8 years ago, I was doing some research in Monroe Co, NC on my Samuel Williams/Esther Slaughter line. At the courthouse there, I found a good bit of information about Joseph Williams, wife Martha Parrot/Perritt and children. However, this family did not connect to my direct line and I did not copy and retain any records. And, of course, I do not remember what information I found on the above mentioned family. You might check at the Monroe Co, NC courthouse for information on this family. Jackie Rhodes At 03:44 PM 7/17/2007, you wrote: >I am hoping this will help someone searching for Elisha Williams.
