I heard that her parents were possibly Elijah and Nancy Williams, but Nancy was born abt. 1818, TN, making her eleven when Matilda was born. They lived in Estil Co, KY in 1870 (census) and ended up in Rockcastle Co, KY where they lived the rest of their lives. So far, I haven't found Matilda on the 1850 census records, due to the fact that I had heard that she was a Gibson before marriage. The pension records stated that she was a Williams, never been married. Does anyone have a Matilda Williams in your line that would fit the information I listed? John Henry Leech/Edward Williams m. Elizabeth Neville/Vincent Williams m. Mary Harness?/Edward Williams m. Maryon Surname Unknown). Vincent Williams b. abt 1715 in Glamorgen, Wales, d. 16 Jul 1756 was my 5x greatgrandfather. In searching your mailing list archives, I see that there are sources listing him as moving to Hampshire County from Pennsylvania. Does anyone know when he emigrated from Wales with *his* father, yet another Edward Williams, and where they lived initially? Also, our written family tree (not totally persuasive evidence!) shows Vincent Williams' wife to be Mary Harness. Not having been able to locate her, I put that research aside some time ago, and have been intensely researching my 1709 Palatine ancestors who came to New York, later the Mohawk Valley. In the course of *that* research, I ran across a Hoerner/Kayser website regarding their ancestors also from the small village of Unteroewisheim, Baden, Germany. I scanned the page for some familiar names and saw to my surprise that "Hoerner" - in only a world where spelling is a slight suggestion - had become "Harness" in Virginia. A light went off, pulled out my "Williams" research. Yep, there she is, same place. Except that when I looked at all the Harness trees, there was no Mary of the right age to be married to a Vincent Williams. This is big to me, because if we *aren't* Harnesses, then I want to know. If we are, then I have a lovely tree already going back to the same village where my Lapps and Bertsch people came from. Searching last night in your mailing list archives, I read that a Peter Casey married Vincent Williams' widow after his awful death. Our family written tree actually had her die on the same day; we thought she had perhaps perished in the same attack. It is nice to know that - whatever her surname - my 5x greatgrandmother went on to have a new husband and children. Also seen in the archives was that a Mary M. Depuy (Dupuy?) is a contender for Vincent's wife and Edward's mother. Can anyone tell me the evidence for Mary Harness and the evidence for Mary Depuy? Or point me to the research sites? Thanks for your help. Xposted to WVHAMPSH-L, WVHARDY-L, and HARNESS-L lists, as well. Cheers, Allrelated -- "As is the generation of leaves, so is that of humanity. 3. Hi, Bud! That is an excellent point. Even though she shows up as "Mary," in the records, you're right, it might have been just such a name. Also, perhaps her original last name was not "Harness," but not "Ernst/Hoerner" either. If those two could become "Harness," then *all* bets are off! She could have been a "Hernsch," "Hersch" etc. The problem is that she was married to Vincent Williams, about whom much is written, and thanks to this list I now know that she apparently married Peter Casey after Vincent's death, so that narrows the possibilities somewhat. The Harness girls from the "Ernst/Hoerner" line seem to be accounted for, unless someone else has additional information. Any thoughts out there? Thanks, Allrelated On 10/3/07, samuels <dwsbgs@centurytel.net> wrote: > > Allrelated; Remember, with Germany and other places one has birth names > Baptismal Names etc. Mary , like Joseph can be , first, never used name, > only occurring in some official records. 1. [WILLIAMS] Williams cemetery burials web-site found......
    2. Barbara Smith
    3. Hello, Looking for Eleremetha Adaline Williams who married James Nowlin in ILL. Barbara eor@saber.net This below may help someone. See this one too: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/il/fayette/fayettcem.html FROM: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/il/fayette/cemeteries/williams.txt: WILLIAMS CEMETERY The cemetery is located in Fayette Co., IL, in the middle of a heavily wooded area on land now owned by Harmon Doyle. There is no road to the cemetery. To reach the cemetery go north from Vera approximately 2 miles to road 2200N, go 3/4 mile east, cross an old railroad bed and go up the hill. Turn into a grassy lane to the left (north) at the top of the hill. Most of road 2200N is very muddy and impassable in wet weather. Walk about 200 yards west in the woods; the cemetery is difficult to see due to dense underbrush and trees. There is a gate with a sign on the south entrance. The gate has been wired shut and will not open. Benjamin Williams originally purchased the land (80 acres) where the cemetery is located on 17 June, 1825. He purchased an additional 80 adjacent acres on 18 January, 1836. Benjamin died in 1874 and is buried here. The first burial is Eveline Williams in 1852 and the last was Harold O. Williams in 1930. There are six Civil War veterens buried here. There are a total of 68 burials, 44 with the last name of Williams. The cemetery has fell into disrepair in recent years, it is choked with weeds and small trees and the fence had fallen over. There are several large stones overturned by vandals and a few stones have been broken. Family members from Texas are now in the process of clearing off the cemetery and the fence has been repaired.
