    1. Re: [WILLIAMS] Colonial Williams Family
    2. Although I reportedly am related to Roger Williams and his wife Jane/Joan through one of their daughters, I do not spend a great deal of time on this line. A Dr. Melton P. Meek has gathered some information, and he has given a copy to the Family History Library at Salt Lake City. Go to the online catalog at www.familysearch.org Look for the author tab. Type in Meek, Melton P. (lower case OK) and up will come a list of his publications. His collection on Roger Williams of Northern Neck VA has not been filmed. However, you can download from the LDS website a form to request photocopies of the index. Then you can order selected pages of the book to be photocopied (not so many that it violates copyright laws). Some of the publications of The Antient Press (www.theantientpress.com) have information about Roger Williams and Joan (later Mrs. Lloyd and then Mrs. Willis, if I remember correctly). I know there were two sons of this union: Roger and Shadrack. Dr. Meek has not proved definitively, however, that Roger Williams of Northern Neck Virginia is the nephew of Roger Williams of Rhode Island. He seems to be a careful student of this family. There is a brief description of his publication in the catalog. Happy hunting. E.W.Wallace

    1. Re: [WILLIAMS] Colonial Williams Family of Southside Virginia
    2. Hello, I am interested in whether or not some of my information might connect with yours regarding Colonial WILLIAMS families. In my paternal lineage I descend from 2 WILLIAMS lines out of 1600's England in New England into Virginia with the BILLINGTON - WILLIAMS families and the PEMBERTON - WILLIAMS families with descent from Alice PEMBERTON and James WILLIAMS through their son, Sydrach WILLIAMS, brother of (Reverend) Roger WILLIAMS, then down through the descendant of Sydrach WILLIAMS named Roger WILLIAMS who married Anne WILLIAMS from the BILLINGTON - WILLIAMS lineage through their 2nd son named George WILLIAMS, born: 1734 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia, who married Catherine "Caty" ? and they were the daughters of Tabitha WILLIAMS, born: 1766 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia, who married Samuel EARLE, IV, (RS/Sgt.,) (2nd son named IV,) born: January 20, 1760 at "Town Run" Plantation, Fauquier County, Virginia, (son of Elizabeth HOL(D)BROOK, born: abt. 1733 in Prince William County, Virginia, (2nd wife of,) and (Major) Samuel EARLE, III, born: Abt. 1692 in Westmoreland County, Virginia, 1st member of the House of Burgesses from Frederick County, Virginia in 1744, holding the seat that would later be held by (General) George WASHINGTON, son of Augustine WASHINGTON, (descendant of Augustine WARNER, I and II that I descend from later in my EARLE - JENNINGS - PARKER - LEWIS - ELLZEY - COPELAND - MYRICK lineage that married into my SLAUGHTER - HATTEN/HATTON - (WOMACK) lineage with WOMACK being my grandmother, Ethel Rosalea HATTEN,'s 1st husband, Joseph Marion WOMACK, Sr., (apparently sometimes shown as Joseph Mancil WOMACK or related to/descended from Joseph Mancil WOMACK.) In addition, Samuel EARLE, IV, (RS/Sgt,) and wife, Tabitha WILLIAMS, were the parents of Kitty EARLE, born: abt. 1795 in Virginia, who married Bailey JENNINGS, born: abt. 1789 in Virginia, probably Richmond County, Virginia, son of Rachel JORDAN, born: abt. 1750, (PARENTS: ??,) and husband, John JENNINGS, (RS,) born: abt. 1748 in Richmond County, Virginia, son of Sarah MOORE? and Edward Salley JENNINGS, Sr., born: 1720 in Richmond Co., VA, son of Ann KELLY and William JENNINGS, Jr., (son of Mary WILLOUGHBY and William JENNINGS, Sr., (son of Margaret PAYNE and 1st husband, John JENNINGS, immigrant from England to Rappahannock Co., VA,) and William JENNINGS, Jr.'s brother was Augustine JENNINGS, born: abt. 1708 in Richmond Co., VA, who married Hannah WILLIAMS whose WILLIAMS family I am told is somehow related to the WILLIAMS - BALL - WASHINGTON family but still trying to figure out how. In addition, I think it may be possible that Mary WILLOUGHBY is descended from or related to Augustine WARNER, I and II, but just my speculation so far. And I also am searching for information on the WILLIAMS lineage for my maternal 2nd great grandfather, William WILLIAMS, born: abt. 1790 in Maryland, (PARENTS: ??,) who married Elizabeth ?, said to have been from Ohio, parents of my maternal great grandmother, Claranda "Clara" WILLIAMS, born: abt. 1840 in either Catahoula or Franklin Parish, Louisiana, who married Louis Hector SLAUGHTER, born: February 14, 1869 in/near Liddieville, Franklin Parish, Louisiana, son of Susan L. CROUCH, born: abt. 1815 in Richmond County, North Carolina, (daughter of Sarah ? and Samuel CROUCH, born: abt. 1785 in Richmond County, North Carolina,) and John M. SLAUGHTER, born: abt. 1795 in Richmond County, North Carolina, son of Mary McDONALD/McDANIEL and husband, Owen SLAUGHTER, Jr., (Rev.,) (son of Mary Elizabeth BOLTON/BOULTON and Owen SLAUGHTER, Sr..) Okay, looking forward to finding out some of the WILLIAMS' mysteries. 1. [WILLIAMS] Colonial Williams Family of Southside Virginia
    2. Dear Diane Christie, You wrote, in response to my query: I'm a descendant of David Hughes Williams (16 Jan 1785-28 April 1858) I have some information on this Williams family that hasn't been listed in some time. What do you need? Which line do you descend from? Diane Christie Dear Diane: Thank you for providing some info re the son of Rev. John Williams of Meherrin Church-- David Hughes Williams--dates that is. Where did he live and where did he die? I am assuming Rev. John died in Southside Virginia. Am I correct? Do you have a death date for him? Like all genealogists, I am curious about these Williamses, but because of my advancing years, I am NOT collecting all the Williams descendants, many of whom seemed to populate the South. I will not live long enough to study them all. In answer to your question about my Williams ancestry: I am descended from two of the brothers of Joseph Williams, father of Rev. John Williams and thus grandfather of your David Hughes Williams. These two brothers are: 1. John Williams, Sr. said to be born 1704. Records of Granville Co., NC indicate he died ca 1769/1770 (administration bond filed by two of his sons and a close neighbor). His wife is said to have been Mary Womack, dau. of William Womack of Goochland Co., VA. This is my paternal grandfather's line. 2. Daniel Williams said to be born 1710. He patented land all over the Southside, some of which he gave/sold to several of his sons. He died testate in Granville Co., NC in 1759. His wife was Ursley, and we descendants argue about her maiden surname, of which we have NO primary proof. This is my paternal grandmother's line. Comment: Because brother Joseph Williams, said to have been born in 1721, left a pretty good paper trail in Lunenburg Co. and then died testate in Elbert Co., GA (I am told by descendants), I have a fair handle on him. What I am seeking, however, is information on the elusive brother Nathaniel Williams, said to have been born 1712. He did witness a deed in Hanover Co. ca 1733-1735. Interestingly enough, I have been in correspondence from time to time with descendants of Nathaniel Williams, and, they, too draw a blank about his residence and place of death, etc. There is reference to the land of Nathaniel Williams in some of the records of colonial Louisa Co., VA He lived on or near Mychunk or Mechunk Creek, and his neighbors were probably his nephews--sons of Mary Graves and her husband Henry Graves of Hanover Co. Mechunk Creek, according to the online USGS locators, is in Fluvanna Co. and Albemarle Co. I know there were some boundary changes from time to time between Louisa and Albemarle Co. Even though Nathaniel Williams owned land there, he seems not to have resided in Louisa Co. At least, I have not yet located a record in which he was a participant. Oh, the life of a Williams researcher!!! Especially when dealing with a burned county, such as Hanover Co. Thank you for your response. I would be grateful for information about the earlier lines of your branch of the family. E.W.Wallace (female)

    1. [WILLIAMS] Rev. John Williams (ca 1747-aft 1786) & Wife Frances Hughes
    2. About ten years ago, there was posted a query in The Virginia Genealogist, Vol. 36, p. 239, about the above-named couple and a question about the parents of Rev. John Williams. The parents of John Williams (one of many cousins who bore the same name) were Joseph Williams of colonial Lunenburg Co., VA, later of Elbert Co., GA (where he died testate) and his wife Henrietta nee Jouett (daughter of Matthew Jouett of colonial Hanover Co.). John established the Meherrin Baptist Church and apparently remained in Virginia. Rev. John's children, as listed in the query, were Robert, Matthew Jouett, Frances, Joseph, David Hughes, Henrietta (m. Thompson), Ann (m. Carrington), Martha, Narcissa, Susanna. Does anyone have any source material and dates on these children? Can you guide me in my research efforts? E.W.Wallace
