Where is or was Oneida County , NY in the 1800's.? I have noticed that alot of people landed there where they came to this country, I have not been able to locate my ancestor's arrival by ship/ They came from Wales; after 1815, because that is the date I found for my 2nd grt grd father. He was born 1815 in Wales, this was established by his death date and burial records. ROBERT WILLIAMS from Wales, when ? Where? 1st records found of him is in Lafayette IN. mustering in to go fight the Mexican War, 1846-48. He then shows up in Janesville WI. in the city directreys 1854-55. 1900 or 1910 census says he was born in LL------------- Wales. (can't read it) and says he was from NY. So I gather this is where he arrived? His father was also a Robert, his mother Margaret Summers or Summers, her father says only ENOS and her mother is listed as VERDI

I certainly agree with the Rev. here! With a name like Williams, it is a tough search from the git go.... Add to it that some of these folks may not have wanted to be found, and the job is immeasurably harder! I would like to ask a general question - I know that my family connected to Williams had bushwhackers in the group. As a "dumb Californian" until today, I did not realize that the "title" had political significance. Today, a good Missouri born friend told me that bushwhackers were folks who did not often fight on either side in the Civil War, but who would take money as they saw fit to do whatever for whomever..... Can the rest of you fill me in and is there such a thing as a list of bushwhackers anywhere???? Jana Black -----Original Message----- From: Rev. I am sending this to the list also as it seems maybe I didn't give enough infomation when I first wrote to the list. I promise I will not be a bother to your list and if no one can help I will just keeping searching. The 1860 Lauderdale Co., MS is on line and I checked it out there is two William T. Williams listed at age 10, both have parents Eli Williams and Martha A. Williams. One Eli is 30 born MS Martha 25, William as only child. The other Eli is 35 born MS Martha A. is 26 born Al with five other children. I have taken the first one as my William T. Williams parents as it is stated that 1880 and 1900 census that both his parents were born in MS. I have checked the home pages and found a William T. Williams with a wife as Mary E. but a differant last name but I will go back and recheck to see the parents name were. I know that William T. Williams married Mary E. Lane as it is listed in the book: Lauderdale County, MS 1842-1900, Computer Indexed Marriage Records Hunting for Bears Inc. I was at the Jackson Co., MS Archives and found this in 2001 but I have not had a chance to return to MS to do more research and we do no have a lot here to look through. Mary's mother was Martha "Thompson" Lane, her Father Francis Asbury Lane, she had three sisters Mary, Martha and Ella Viola, only one brother out of five that survived the Civil War and that was Francis Asbury Lane Jr. They were all born in Ga. Hello, I am going to try my brick wall from another angle. I have my Great Grandfather William Edward Sloan as being born in 7 Apr 1855 in Milan, Erie Co., OH. I have his parents as William Sloan and Mary WILLIAMS. I don't know if he had any brothers or sisters. I have no other information on my Great Great Grandparents other than their names. From census records for William Edward I find that William and Mary were listed as from Ohio on one and from NY on another. My guess is that Mary Williams was from Milan and that William came to Milan to work on the canal and meet her and they got married and had William Edward. I have checked for birth, marriage and death records in Erie Co and come up empty. Since 1855 was the tail end of the big boom in Erie Co. due to the canal business, my guess is that they moved on. William Edward ended up in Bellefontaine, Logan Co., OH. where he married (Margaret Caskey), had his children (4), worked on the RR, died (29 Mar 1919) and was buried there. Hope that something rings a bell with someone. I have been looking for something for over 10 years and other than ruling out a lot of dead ends, I haven't found any leads! Thanks in advance, Dave Sloan Colorado Springs, CO.

I am not sure if I sent this before, but here goes: Does anyone have any information about Maria Estelle Williams, born 1853, Rome, Oneida Co., NY, died 1923, Port Ewen, Ulster Co., NY, married to Lucius D. Smith (in Sabury or Sudbury, NY, December 1873. The wedding was witnessed by an S.J. Estey and a "Miss Hallie Estey"?) Does anyone have any information about a woman named Emeline Williams, born 1815 and died 1881 (no knowledge of where, but she was buried beside Maria Estelle Williams, in Riverview Cemetery, Port Ewen, Ulster Co., NY.) Maria Estelle Williams was my great-grandmother. They may have had American Indian blood and the mixture, based upon the appearance of Maria Estelle Williams and a picture I have of her standing next to her "Uncle Halliday" suggests that the mixture may have happened a couple of generations before that. She was said to have come from "out West" - that term when she was born (1853) meaning anywhere west of New York State. --- WILLIAMS-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > ATTACHMENT part 1 message/rfc822 > > WILLIAMS-D Digest Volume 02 : Issue 155 > > Today's Topics: > #1 [WILLIAMS] Emma Williams ["Darlene > Casteel" <dcasteel@master] > > Administrivia: > List web page: > http://www2.netdoor.com/~cch/lists/WILLIAMS.htm > > > ******************************************************** > > To unsubscribe from WILLIAMS-D, send a message to > WILLIAMS-D-request@rootsweb.com > that contains in the body of the message the command > unsubscribe > and no other text.
