    2. I suspect someone on the list may have a virus. Regarding the e-mail you received from "jpsnidow2@connect.net"...that is a variation of my e-mail address and is probably an invalid address. Anyone receiving an e-mail with "[WILLIAMS]" in the subject that has an attachment, BE WARY. Don't open those attachments.

    1. [WILLIAMS] Senator John Williams from Tennessee 1815-1823
    2. >From Biographical Directory of the United States Congress 1774-Present on http://bioguide.congress.gov/ This is very abbreviated: Williams, John, 1778-1837 Senate Years of Service: 1815-1823 Party: Republican Williams, John, (brother of Lewis and Robert Williams, father of Joseph Lanier Williams, and cousin of Marmaduke Williams), a Senator from Tennesssee; born in Surry County, N.C., January 29, 1778..... [detailed bio which I am omitting] died near Knoxville, Tenn., August 10, 1837; interment in the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Question: Who are his parents? Question: Who are the parents of Marmaduke Williams? His brief bio also appears in the same directory of Congress. From BIOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY OF U. S. CONGRESS, p. 2059 "Williams, Marmaduke (cousin of John Williams, of Tennessee, Lewis Williams, and Robert Williams), a Representative from North Carolina; born in Caswell County, NC, April 6, 1774; completed preparatory studies; studied law; was admitted to the bar and practiced; member of the State senate in 1802; elected as a Republican to the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Congresses (March 4, 1803-March 3, 1809); was not a candidate for renomination; moved to Mississippi Territory in 1810 and later to Huntsville, Madison County, Ala; in 1818 settled in Tuscaloosa, Ala .... I think I stumbled upon these on a website called Political Graveyard. Thanks for your answers. E.W.Wallace

    2. You seem to have a lot of info on this family. Your Pattison reference may tie with a Pattison/Patterson in my family, also in Lunenberg Co, I think. Do you know if any of your Williams' went to Granville or Person Co., NC by 1800? Thanks. Virginia Garrison Lexington, KY

    1. [WILLIAMS] John Williams (3rd gen) of Lunenburg Co., VA
    2. Many subscribers to the Williams list are descended from Joseph Williams (wife Henrietta Jouett), of colonial Lunenburg Co., VA. Joseph died testate in Elbert Co., GA where he had another wife named Frankey. This abstract indicates the relationship of the two Williams sons. If any lister knows about the tract of land in Washington Co., KY, please advise the list. Was it bounty land awarded for Virginia military service? And who is Ro. [Robert?] H. Williams who is one of the witnesses? E.W.Wallace The following information indicates that both John Williams and his brother Mathew J. Williams were still living in 1794, and that Matthew J. was residing in Georgia while John remained in Lunenburg Co. John was commonly called Rev. John as he was active in the Baptist Church, and established Meherrin Church. Lunenburg Co. DB 16-465 Power of Attorney .... I John Williams of Lunenburg County, Virginia ... have appointed my trusty friends Matthew Walton of Washington County Kentucky and Jonathan Pattison of Lunenburg County Virginia, my true and lawful attorneys for me in my behalf and to my use, respecting a certain tract of land upon the Beach fork of Salt River, Washington County Kentucky, containing between 900 and 1,000 acres located and surveyed (by the aforesaid Matthew Walton) on behalf of myself and my brother Matthew J. Williams of Elbert County Georgia, but since which I have obtained by [sic] Brothers part... [Power of attorney to dispose of the land]... this 10 June 1794. John Williams witnesses: Henry Haley, William Lee, Thos Parsons Ro. H. Williams Power of attorney proved 12 June 1794 by oath of three witnesses and ordered recorded. 1. [WILLIAMS] WEBSITE
    2. Mizzee
    3. If anyone is interested, I am in process of constructing a website which includes transcriptions of records of Williams passengers to Philadelphia, PA, from 1800-1906. It also contains Williams found in several Pennsylvania City and County Directories for the years 1887-1893. I gotta tell you all, I am not a Web Guru! So if you can overlook things like vertical alignment problems, there's a lot of information there for you. :) I have all the passengers completed for Philadelphia, am working on Williams entering Baltimore MD. I have the Directories finished for Allentown, Bethlehem, Bradford, Chester, Harrisburg, Norristown & Bridgeport, Erie, and Reading. Am half way through Philadelphia and have to put up Scranton, Pittsburgh, and Wilkes-Barre. My sources are NARA microfilm and CD's. For now, go to: http://irishtoamerica.com/Williams/Williams.htm Don't let the Irish in the domain name throw you, most of the Williams came from England and Wales. (There's more to the website that contains information for the surnames Hagarty and Doyle.) Happy hunting :) let me know of any problems. Phyllis E. :)

    1. [WILLIAMS] Searching for Persons Who Were Living in US 1880
    2. Some Williams researchers are searching for very NEW Williamses--those living in 1880--according to some recent postings. Suggestion: I am fairly sure that by this time, all LDS family history centers have the 1880 US census on multiple CD-ROMs, and some of the advanced ones may have it on the Internet. For a list of over 3,700 centers world-wide, use this URL to try to find one in your neighborhood. Be sure to telephone to learn the days and hours of opening. www.familysearch.org There are a few tricks to using the 1880 census on CD-ROMs, so get someone to show you how to search. For instance, not only did the transcribers to the CD-ROMs have trouble making out the old handwriting on the original census, but the initial census-taker couldn't always spell or didn't answer what he was told. For example, I was searching for my great-grandmother's stepfather. His surname was Henze (German). The CD-ROM has it spelled Hensi. So use your imagination. I believe you can also use a wild-card * I believe that is how I found Hensi. I typed in the first syllable and added the asterisk. And there he was!!! Also, although you know your people by their formal names, in all probability the census-taker used another given name, or the person himself did. Sometimes you may want to search the whole community--if you can find it on the CD-ROMs. While you are using the URL given above, check out the catalog for localities where your people lived and see what films Salt Lake City MAY have for those communities. Vital records is the topic where you will find records of births, marriages and deaths. And don't forget that Salt Lake City has tons of material on the British Isles and a lot on foreign countries. However, if you are looking for films for what was East Prussia, look under Poland (where I found my 2nd great-grandmother and her family!) The trick to being a genealogist is to become a detective. One of my genealogical friends says she reads detective stories and sometimes comes up with a new technique to track down those elusive ancestors. Good luck in finding those NEW Williamses. 1. [WILLIAMS] Isaac Harris Deed to Benjamin Williams' heirs
    2. Joyce Libes
    3. A (perhaps) distant cousin in Texas has sent this information about the deed by Isaac Harris to Benjamin Williams' heirs: Isaac Harris' will (written 27 May 1807 Halifax Co. NC) left Martha Harris Williams' (Benjamin's wife) portion in trust of his son and executor also named Isaac Harris. Isaac (Jr.) went to Davidson Co. TN and while there still held the trust. When Benjamin Williams died in 1816 in Dickson Co. TN, Isaac (Jr.) deeded the land to his nephews and niece, Benjamin's heirs, and named them in the deed: Jones, Harris, Etheldred, Buckner, Benjamin, Plummer, Tippo and Martha Williams. Does anyone on the list have the deed book, date, and page for the deed that was made? Also in what county was the deed made? Any information will be greatly appreciated. One other brick wall for me is where is Harris (son of Benjamin) Williams family in 1840? I have his family in 1820 and 1830 with their 3 sons and 3 daughters, and in 1850 and 1860 after children were gone but can't locate him anywhere so far in 1840 census records.
