It looks like there are two people researching this family. Search on familysearch.com in the free 1880 census and the regular IGI search. Look in the details for submitters to find the names of researchers. The info says that George died in 1900, it lists his parents, and the Nichols were in Fayette Co but that may have been in the 1900's. I find no info in the 1920 census. At least this is a start. 1880 IL Shelby Co Holland tsp George L. Does anyone have any ideas on how to find him (possibly a Sheppard Williams)?? He was shipwrecked in War of 1812 also. Lore from husband's father(JHGW, listed below) says progenitors were "Judges & Lawyers". His GGF or GGGF was active until 1911 when died at 116. He was possibly a "Sheppard Williams" We are still in early throes of Williams hunting. John Henry Grady Williams of Aiken, SC county was born "in Bulloch county, GA" in 1895. His father was supposed to be Sheppard N. Williams, who had children: JHG called "Man", "Uncle Son" who may have been a junior, Josephine called "Aunt Daughter" who married a Gordy, Barbara Ella called "Aunt Bootie" who married a SAPP, Mary who married a Rucker. Due to the flux in South GA (and maybe N. FL), we have not yet been able to locate the family on 1900 census. We still look a day or two a month. We figured they must be some kin to the Sheppard Williams es big in Bulloch county from 1820 -1849. Can't find any connections down, because we haven't found Sr. and Jr. in Bulloch county censuses. The 1st one had maternal uncles with the last name Sheppard. I have extensive files on MY lines: Summers of Orangeburg, SC, Moss of Orangeburg, SC, Browns (back to Joseph and to Landgrave Thomas Smith 1&2) of Charleston, SC. Replies welsomed. I haven't posted before because we have found so little. Caroline Williams
Dose anyone have any information on a Elmerentha Williams that married a James Nowlin in Ill. abt. 1840. Thanks, Barbara eor@saber.net
My great grandmother was Mary WILLIAMS, born 6th August 1887 in Cardiff, Wales. Her father was Thomas WILLIAMS, marine engineer and her mother Mary WILLIAMS nee PURDY. Anyone researching my WILLIAMS line? Lyn Freeman West Sussex England talk21 - TV email
If anyone has any information on Mahala Williams that married George Nichols on 4 Oct. 1896 in Ill. Need any help anyone can give me. I don't know if they had any children. I know George Nichols had 6 but since he had 5 wives I don't know which children belong to who. Thanks, Barbara eor@saber.net
What the other group is doing. First: We got a coordinator Second : We mail her the information of where our earliest know ancestors. There is no reason to get 2 people tested from the same line. Third: This needs to be a male from the WILLIAMS line (Example GGGrandfathe William Williams born NC.--GGrandfather Noah Williams born AL.--Grandfather Jack WILLIAMS born in MS.--Father born in AR. to you. It has to be a direct line of males down. Four: If it is done as a Family they will do it for cheaper. It will not tell you if your WILLIAMS is my gggrandfather, but it will let you know if he is in your line back some where. This is best explained on Familytreena.com/fag.html. I am a female and it would do me no good to be tested. But I'm going to send a donation to help some other male to be tested to see if he matches up with mine. Go to the website and read about it then see if we all can get togather and work out something. I have a brother that is in the direct line down from my Williams born about 1798 in NC. I think I can talk him into getting tested. Estelle WILLIAMS Hucks
Walt, my g grandfather was an Alexander Williams born in Knoxville, TN in 1850. His father, James R. Williams was born in NC abt 1829. Did your Alexander have any sons to migrate to NC? Good luck on your surgery. Helen in TX
I am all in favor of this. I can't assist in helping get it off the ground since I'm having surgery in 2 weeks, but will be happy to give (and pay the cost of) a sample. Earliest known Williams. Alexander Williams probably born about 1740. Who knows where?? Present in Loudoun and Fairfax Cos. VA. Died about 1780. Son in KY with large family. Children in KY and MO, probably IA, KN, LA and maybe TX and CA. Hi. I am still searching for any information concerning a John Williams b. abt. 1805, possibly in Williamson Co. TN d. betw. 1840/50 in Davidson Co., TN. m. 1835 in Williamson Co., TN to Sally Wilson. Children were, Tennessee (f), Martha E., Selina, & John. The children were living with a Charles and Mary (Williams) Conger in the 1850 Census of Davidson Co., Nashville, TN. Thank you, Sara Powell sara-powell@attbi.com
"WALES-GEN" is correct. Also, to see a list of all the (Rootsweb) Wales Mailing lists, go to http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/WLS/ Yes, Williams ancestors came from everywhere in the world, it seems. I'm currently living in western Massachusetts, originally from Virginia, and researching my Williams ancestors who spread themselves across VA, NC, TN and all through the South. I SUSPECT my originals came from Wales in the 1600's. Time will tell (hopefully). ~Jane
My Williams came from NC. Another line that I'm on is talking about doing DNA testing. The information about it is on Familytree. Would the WILLIAMS think about this and see if we can connect. I do not have the time to work on this but maybe someone else on this newsletter would have the time to coordinate it. We might be able to help each other find where we connect or if we connect. Estelle
Hi Tina :) Don't get discouraged ... Williams hail from ALL OVER the globe!!! My emigrant ancestor was also from Wales. Maybe you will find a link to your family here, among all of our queries and families on this list. I don't think that all of us on this list are from America, either. So don't give us up yet. :) Btw there is a Rootsweb mailing list for Wales. Unless it's changed its name (I haven't been there in a long time), send an email to WALES-GEN-D-request@rootsweb.com for digest mode or WALES-GEN-L-request@rootsweb.com for daily mode, and put subscribe in the body and subject of the email. If this is not up to date, go to RootsWeb and do a search on mailing lists for Wales. Maybe someone here knows the correct link if this one is outdated? Phyllis > Worcester where? Hiya all :) Yesterday I posted my website, http://irishtoamerica.com/index.html. I have discovered thanks to many emails, that the Families link was Not Found. It seems I had moved the Families folder and forgotten to change the link on the main page of my website!! It is now fixed and up and running. In case you want the url to Families, it is http://irishtoamerica.com/Families/families.htm If it loads slowly, don't give up .. it will come in. I am redoing the pages with fewer records on them, so they will go faster, but for now they are kinda slow. :) Also, half of the Philadelphia Directories for Williams have been added .. there are 1000 Williams records for just Philadelphia!! The photos are not yet online. Also some of the other Directories for Williams and one for Hagarty, a few for Doyle, the Conley, Savage, and Flick records are not yet online. But they will be soon and I will let everybody know. Thanks for the interest and words of encouragement! :) Phyllis E.
hi list would love to here from anyone with an interest in WILLIAMS from worcester thanks julie
Just to let you all know ... I have added to my website, now there are Directories for the names Hagarty (and its variant spellings), Doyle, Williams, and in progress are Conley, Savage, and Flick. The localities are Ashley, Allentown, Bethlehem, Bradley, Bridgeport, Carbondale, Chester, Erie, Harrisburg, Lehigh County, Luzerne, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Reading, Scranton, Steelton, Upland, and Wilkes-Barre. Also in progress are more passengers entering the ports of Baltimore, New Orleans, New York, and others for the same names. :) There are a few more links, one is of Boarding Houses in Pittsburgh in 1905, with names and addresses. Website is http://irishtoamerica.com/index.html (main page) Hope you can find someone you are looking for! :) Btw anybody can copy any genealogical information they want to from any page associated with my website, it belongs in the public domain. The reason I put it up anyway, is so people could get the information they are looking for. The formats and designs however remain copyrighted. :)) Phyllis E. PS please let me know if you find someone. :))
I am searching for the parents of William S. William b. abt. 1840 supposedly in Jasper County, GA. I find Wm S. Williams age abt., 42 in the 1870 Barbour County, AL,Census with wife Catherine, age abt. 25, b. abt. 1845 and 2 children. Martha age 6, b. 1864 and Nancy age 4, b. abt. 1866. In 1880 I find William Williams age 42 b.Al , father b. AL, mother b. GA in Skipperville, Dale Co, AL His wife's name is Martha age 31 (could this woman's name be Martha Catherine? or is it a new wife?) Martha S. is 16 Nancy is 14 (you will also notice that William got older and the wife got younger. Only the childrens ages stayed the same) The Martha S (Susan) Williams b. 1864 is my husbands grandmother. William S. Williams is his great grandfather. We are really at a brickwall here as to William S. Williams parentage. I have tried to link him up to several older Williams in the area at that time, but we can find no proof of these folks being his parents. There is a William W. Williams b. 1815 N.C. with wife Elizabeth. Edward Williams b. 1784 N.C. with wife Sarah. Buckner Williams in Alabama Census from 1821-1870 Is anyone else researching these Williams Families here in Alabama besides Mr. Hatcher? Any advice and help appreciated.
