1. [WILLIAMS] Williams, Harry R. and Robert R.
2. Ken Krawczyk
3. I am looking for a connection to my maternal great grandfather, Robert R. Williams (born 7/1863) of the Moniteau County, MO area. Robert's son was Harry R. (born 8/1891). Evidence shows that Robert's father may be Oliver Perry Williams (born 5/1829). In the 1870 Census, Oliver Perry Williams is assumed to be my great-great grandfather, and his wife Harriett to be my great-great grandmother, as they had a son named Robert, who was born the same year as my great grandfather, Robert R. and was also a carpenter as Robert R. Additionally, O.P. was born in Pennsylvania and Harriett was born in Missouri. I have much more info if anyone has a match. Ken Krawczyk kenkraw@hotmail.com

1. [WILLIAMS] Williams of Elwood/Anderson, IN.
2. It has just come to my attention through my continued research that I have a William Williams and his wife Martha (surname unknown) in my family tree. They were the parents of John W. Williams born in about 1862 . He married Ella Russell July 15, 1883, in Tipton, Tipton County Indiana. He died June 27, 1927, in Elwood, Indiana and is buried in Anderson, In as best I can determine. I'm also interested in Carrie O. Williams Kennedy former resident of Elwood, Indiana who married a Ben Kennedy on March 6, 1901, in Elwood. She was a daughter of John and Ella Williams. Last info I have that she disappeared from the Elwood city directories after 1929. I believe that her husband Ben died and that she remarried sometime after 1929. I am really interested in the death dates and burial sites for Ella Williams and Herschel Williams. Ella was alive and lived in Anderson, Indiana in December of 1941. Herschel, Ella's son, lived in Anderson in 1943 and was listed in the city directory as a Clerk at the City Food Market and residing at 419 1/2 East 8th street the same address as the one I have for Ella in 1941. Appreciate any help available. Crosley5@aol.com

1. [WILLIAMS] Henry of Claiborne Co, TN and Henry B. of Mecklenburg Co, NC
2. Good morning Williams listmembers, In the 1850 Claiborne Co, TN census there is a Henry Williams, occupation tailor. Henry 56 NC Nancy 45 VA May 19 TN Isabella 12 TN Emeline 10 TN George W. 8 TN James 5 TN Margaret 3 TN He and his family live near Jackson Sanders and family. Jackson Sanders was born Feb 3, 1814 in Claiborne Co, TN married Mary E. Williams abt. 1839, probably in Claiborne Co, TN and died in Christian Co, MO Feb 23, 1877. Mary was born Oct 20, 1818 in NC and died April 7, 1908. They are both buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetary in Clever, Christian Co, MO. 1850 Claiborne Co, TN Census lists: Jackson 36 TN Mary E. 30 NC Lenora 11 TN Lewis S. 7 TN (Should be Lewis W.) Artimissy 5 TN Luversy 4 TN Henry B. 8/12 TN 1860 Christian Co, MO census lists: Jackson 44 TN Mary 40 NC Araminta 15 TN Loranna 14 TN Lovena 13 TN Henry 11 TN William 5 TN In 1860 Lewis W. Sanders was in Mecklenburg Co, NC living with Henry B. Williams, at the Mansion House, a hotel in Charlotte of which Henry B. Williams was the proprietor. Henry B. Williams was most likely the brother of Mary E. Williams Sanders. Family history states a childless relative adopted him as Jackson and Mary had so many children. But Henry B. had children of his own and Lewis appears to have gone to work for him there in Charlotte and since he was of age and kept his last name of Sanders, adoption seems unlikely. Is anyone researching the Williams families of NC or TN that are familiar with these individuals? I suspect the Henry of Claiborne Co, TN is the father of Mary E. and Henry B. of Mecklenburg her brother and would appreciate any information anyone might have on these individuals. Many thanks for any reply and Happy New Year to all! Diana

1. [WILLIAMS] Some Suggestions for Climbing a Brick Wall
2. I just sent a similar message to the Harris-Hunters list. If you have anyone in your family who was living in 1880, you might try following some of these instructions: 1. The 1880 US census is online at www.familysearch.org Look on the right side for a listing of the 1880 census. Do you know some dates and some places where your people lived? If so, this will help you fill in the blanks on the search of the 1880 census for at least some of the family members. The 1880 census is a great help because it asks where the parents of each person enumerated was born. (This clue helped me trace my KY-born ancestor to the birthplace of his father--North Carolina--where I found a bundle of records!!! Those got me back to colonial Virginia.) 2. If a subscriber is near a public library, he/she should ask about interlibrary loan. To get some idea of what genealogical books for localities are available, a researcher can again go to the Family History Library catalog on the above website and get a description of the books--the author and title, publisher and date of publication. Salt Lake City is acquiring new books all the time, but cataloging is slow. So one might dip into some websites for genealogical publishers, like Genealogical Publishing Company, TLC Genealogy, Southern Historical Press, Iberian Press, and a bookseller in Maryland--Willow Bend books--to get an idea of what one might be able to borrow--for a small fee--and a waiting period. I have been surprised at the libraries which have held some of the books I interlibrary loaned--small community colleges in the boonies, for instance. I hope these suggestions help overcome some genealogical brick walls. Genealogy takes a lot of persistence and patience and figuring how to outsmart your ancestors who hid their documents from you! Sometimes you have to find them in the court records (or tax records). There were no small claims courts, no credit cards, so people were always suing each other for debts, not to mention assault and battery. I read last night in some colonial Virginia records that a couple of fellows were given the death sentence (on the gallows) for horse thievery! But I'm not sure we are any more *civilized* these days! E.W.Wallace
