    2. Karen, Don't know if this will help---I have an Elisha Williams born 1735 married Ann Van Swearingen that lived in Bath co. Va. . This Elisha also had a son Elisha B. Williams born 1770 in Va. I have his wife's name just not in front of me. Since Elisha was not a common name and North Carolina is not that far this might be worht checking. There is lots of info about this Elisha Williams family he was in the legislature and a prominate family. Jackie

    1. [WILLIAMS] Williams of Granville Co., NC
    2. Deloris, I wish I could say the property where my ggg/gf, William Williams, lived in Granville Co., NC, was near Little River instead of Little Creek, but all the deeds read the same -- sometimes "on", or "in between", or "on both sides of" ... the Tar River and Little Creek. The two maps you sent were very clear and a great help to me. These were the 1746 and 1779 maps of the Granville Co. area. This is something I've been looking for, for years. They both show "unnamed" branches or streams near the Tar River, where the Fishing Creek District was located. Maybe one of them could have been called the Little Creek by some. It has to be in the general area of Fishing Creek District, since that's where he was when the 1786 NC State Census was taken. In describing some of the property, two deeds read: "near the Ridge Path between Tar River and Little Creek." I just wonder if "Ridge Path" was a wagon or oxcart trail, and perhaps it became a well-traveled road during the years -- maybe even a highway today! The link you gave me to the RootsWeb site turned out really interesting. The writer of that message (Hdanw) mentioned a book he had heard about -- "The Williams Family of Granville County, North Carolina and Marshall County, Tennessee : Ancestors -- Descendants -- connections to Allison, Boyd, Camden, Haislip, Harris, Ogilvie and Peace Families", by Elizabeth Thompson Schack. This is the history of our family, written by one of our cousins, Bettye Schack. The families of Williams, Allison, Haislip, Harris, Ogilvie and Peace, are the ancestors of most of us in this Williams family. They all lived in the southern districts of Granville Co. and intermarried before they came to Tennessee. The families of Boyd and Camden are only Bettye's ancestors. Also, the writer of that RootsWeb message mentioned the Williams families in the Knap of Reeds District. That would have been close to the Fishing Creek District, but we don't know anything about them. There is only one Williams in the Knap of Reeds District in the 1786 Census -- Ralph Williams. We don't know that given name in our family. Primarily, the names that have come down to us, are -- John, William, Henry, James, Joseph and Daniel. There have been a few unusual ones, like -- Chesley, Varnold and Norwood. I'm going to try and do some research, though, on this "Ralph Williams". I'm also going to try more research on the families of John Williams and Daniel Williams, that you mentioned, especially as more DNA information comes in. Thank you, again, Deloris, for helping me so much. If you think of anything else that might connect us, please let me know. I'd really appreciate it. Ellen Williams Nashville, TN

    1. Elisha Williams
    2. There has been a lot of interesting info on this newsletter lately about the Williams clan of Warren Co.,NC. I am trying to find the parents of Elisha W. Williams. He was born around 1821 in NC, but I don't know which county. He marred Martha Griffin in 1841 in Person C.,NC, which is close to Warren. By 1860 he had moved to Christiansburg, in Montgomery Co., VA. Does anyone know which family line he was from? Karen Lee Williamsburg,VA

    1. Re: [WILLIAMS] A Williams/Battle Family
    2. Dear Robert, My husband descends from the John Williams that you mentioned to the list who was born in 1762 and married to Marget McCorkle! I need to get out all of our information on this family, but several researchers in the past have speculated that John's father could be named either Patrick or William, but nobody could verify anything. Charles Williams has posted several queries on the genweb website for NC. Do you know where the 1762 John was born? I'm pretty sure Marget came to Mecklenburg Co., NC with her parents and family from PA, but I don't know what date they came. I always wondered if the Williamses and McCorkles traveled south as part of a group from PA. My husband descends from John's and Marget's son John, born in 1791, who married in Union Co., SC after the whole family moved there from NC. This John migrated from SC with Mary, his wife, and son Lemuel Rhodes Williams, who was born in 1814, through Trigg Co.,, KY to IL. They lived in KY long enough for their son Patrick McCorkle Williams to be born in 1817, then went to Sangamon Co., IL where other children were born, finally ending up in Hancock Co., IL, a bit west of SAngamon Co. Which of John's and Marget's children do you descend from? Sally Williams

    1. Williams in NC
    2. I keep seeing all these Williams, but if any of them connect to my husband's line, I can't find it. The people below started off in Duplin Co., NC, to Cumberland Co., NC (which later became Harnett Co.) Some of them migrated to somewhere, but I don't know where. I don't know any living descendants with the Williams surname, and that's not to say there aren't any, but I don't have any clue as to where they are. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. There is an asterisk beside my husband's direct line. Thanks, Iris Hill Brown 1 Isaac Williams abt 1765* ........ 2 John C. 2. Robert H. Williams
    3. Ellen and Donna: I have read your last two letters with some interest. Although most of names you mention do not fit into my Williams line the "William Williams" does. I actually have no information on him except that his wife's name was Hannah (I believe) and he had a son whose name was John born in South Carolina in 1762 whose wife's name was Marget. He died in 1822 and his wife died in 1827. They follow with J. Patrtick Williams and Thomas N. Williams. If you have any information that would fit these names and dates I would like to have it. 2. Thank you so much for the info. I will check this out. You are right everything has a cost, however the only way I found out about my Davis family and what I did about the Williams is because I hired someone to get the info for me. When you live on the other side of the world you have to do something., I know that is probably what I am going to have to do again if I want any info. thank you so very very much for taking the time to help me.
