Good afternoon Listers We have a JOHN WILLIAMS [Date of birth ? in Feock, Cornwall] who married JANE COURTIS [various spellings] in St Mary's Truro, Cornwall in 1825. Their children included: Elizabeth Ann, Sarah Ann, Thomas, John, Catherine and Richard. We know that Catherine WILLIAMS married Matthew SEARLE in Feock in 1847 Is there any WILLIAMS researcher looking at this family? If so, it would be wonderful to hear from you as this is our direct line through Mary Courtis SEARLE.

I am looking for information on John W. Williams (my grandfather) who married Ella Russell In Tipton, Indiana (Tipton County) on 15 July 1883. I believe he was born in 1862 in Boone County, Indiana. His parents I believe may have been William and Martha Carpenter Williams. In 1930 he and Ella, daughter Cora Edith (my mother) and son Herschell lived at 1620 south A Street in Elwood, Indiana From sometime after 1900 until early 1927 John, who had abandoned his family, was places unknown. He was found in Ohio in 1927 and was returned to Elwood and his family. He passed away on June 27, 1927. He is allegedly buried in the Elwood Cemetery. I can't find my grandmother Ella Russell Williams. She was last known (1941) to be living in Anderson, Indiana with her son Herschell Williams. Herschell eventually lived in Middletown (Henry County, Indiana) and passed away 29 July 1962. Does any of this info reflect any part of your research of the Williams family? No, I have no siblings for John E. Williams. An 1870 census check unearths only one family where there is a John Williams of the correct age (8-10) and he appears to be an orphan or adoptee. There is no relationship stated. This is what little I do know about John E. Williams: 1900 Census says born May 1861. 1882 Greene County has a marriage license for John and his wife Sarah Ann Clifford of Alton, IL He has a son named Frederick born in 1880 in Roodhouse, Greene, IL. Yes, 1880, not 1882. He has a daughter named Mary Ebbert, born in Roodhouse, Greene, IL in 1882. In 1884, he is living in Martinsburg Precinct, Audrain County, MO. He has a son named Charles Elden Williams, born there in 1884, and a daughter named Florence Valretta (my grandmother), born there in 1886. He is in Alton, Madison, IL, in 1890, as he shows up in the Alton City Directory. He has a daughter born there in 1893 named Frances and his final child, Sarah Belle, born there in 1896. He shows up on the 1900 Census in Danville, Vermilion, IL, working as a Mining Inspector. He shows up on 1910 Census in Worden, Madison, IL. From there, he disappears. This is what I know of his children: Frederick dies in Washington Township, Pike, IN sometime between 1920 and 1930. A distant family member, not a Williams surname, says that one of John's sons fatally shot and killed Frederick while trying to protect his mother, Minne Downey Williams, from his father. The children are then split up and living with various relatives. Minnie dies later of breast cancer. Mary Ebbert marries Thomas Vice and dies in Breeze, Clinton, IL. Charles E. disappears in Illinois after the 1900 Census, although I have found a Charles E. Williams in Kansas who may be this Charles. I am trying to document that now. Frances Williams, according to her neice/my aunt, says that Frances died when she was between 19 and 21 years of age of blood poisoning from printer's ink. No date or location is known. Florence married William Milton Best and lived her entire adult life in Worden, Madison, IL. Sarah Belle Williams married a Homer Fulford of Indiana, then a James Meyer in Alton, IL, and was accidently shot to death by her husband in a bar that they owned. Tragic family in many respects, but that is all I know of John and his family. I am starting a new webpage, The Early Descendants of John Williams of Hanover Co., Virginia, b. 1679 Wales. I am staying focused only on those that were born before 1900 and only descendants with the Williams surname. Two members of this "clan" have received 37 marker Y-Chromosome DNA test, so long lost Williams cousins now have the potential to see where they belong in this large family. I am still missing some lines, perhaps someone on the list can help me fill in some information. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mo/county/stlouis/williams/ --Scott K. Williams, Florissant, Mo. Clay, I appreciate it, but I haven't heard of any of my husband's line in Warren Co. However, they could be connected. You never know. Iris The family of John M Williams, born in Warren Co, NC, 08-17-1785, moved from Anson Co, NC, to Marshall Co, Mississippi, about 1843. I have information on them, if this is the same line. Clay Williams
Hughes, I am sorry to say that I don't even know any Williams (surname) descendants from my husband's line. That is one reason why it is so difficult to track them back any farther. Iris Iris, have any of the males in your Williams line participated in the Williams DNA Project? This has proven to be a powerful tool in our research. --Hughes Williams
You can find Earl, Alma and their child in the 1930 census of Georgianna, Butler County, Alabama living on the dairy farm of his widowed mother, Mary, who was born about 1855 in Alabama. That census should provide the clues you need trace Earl's family. The family was in the same place in 1920. W. Hello Williams Cousins, hope ya'lls Thanksgiving was as wonderful mine (as an added bonus my 28th birthday finally fell on Thanksgiving again after a couple of Leap Years getting in the way...lol)!? It would have been even better if Granny, Mom's Mom, had been here since this was our first Thanksgiving without her. Tonight while looking over my Stallings family tree I decided it was time to see if I could find some information on Earl Judson Williams, so here we go... My G3Aunt & Uncle Lenora Ann SHREVE & Herman Adolphus Bell of Oakey Streak, Butler County, Alabama had cousin Alma Gertrude Bell who was born 23 November 1895 in Aiken, Alabama died -?- -?- -?-; married Earl Judson WILLIAMS 17 October 1923; Earl died 03 May 1938. I do have the name of their child, but because of privacy I am not going to post it, hope ya'll understand. QUESTIONS :) : 1. Does anyone know when Cousin Alma died? 2. When was Earl Judson born, where, & to whom? Because members of this family are still alive, please contact me off-list if you know this family. Their child was born in Georgianna, Alabama.
