I also heard talk of making it a longer wait they say because people are living longer so they said they need to start thinking about making longer than 72 years before they release census records H Williams <[email protected]> wrote: Hi, Peggy. I am glad to know about the notes section. My notes came over from the old version, but I couldn't figure out how to cut and paste into it. to add new ones. Just wanted to say sorry your leaving....we all have our own reasons for what we do, as for me I love this Williams list altho so far it really hasn't taken me where I want to go. I am in for the long haul tho, and feel I am among "cousins" anyway. Someday who knows what this will bring me.....Hope that as many of you as can, will take the Williams DNA test, it is a great opportunity & one I sure didn't miss. Good luck to all, Peggy Williams Peterson
I notice that a few people who are trying to unsubscribe from the list are posting their messages to the Mailing List itself. That is not the way to unsubscribe. You need to go to the Rootsweb Mailing List that you are subscribed to and click onto the link telling you to "Unsubscribe." An alternative is right on the bottom of each message sent out from the list, which features a link to the Mailing List. Once you get to the List through the link, Click onto the "Unsubscribe" button under the "WILLIAMS-L" link if you get your messages from the list individually, or "WILLIAMS-D", if you get your messages in a Digest mode, which will trigger a Message from you to the correct party to take you off of their list. You must "Send" your message that is triggered, just as you would always do for an email. Remember, that just sending a message to the regular address for the Mailing List will NOT get you unsubscribed, and that you MUST send it to the correct address as described above. Thanks All. I didn't have any problems with the transfer of notes, and I installed FTM 2005 when it first came out. HOWEVER, when entering information to the notes section you MUST hit the OK button on the bottom when you're finished or it will be deleted!! Also, the cut/paste/copy features in the notes section is controlled by the right side of the mouse and not an edit button on the screen, something I didn't realize in the beginning. I love FTM 2005, but it does have its quirks. Good luck, Sharon

My name is Donna M. (Wheeler) Schumacher. I am a direct descendant of Thomas Wheeler, his son Isaac Wheeler and Martha Park(e). My family history has always fascinated me; the further I have researched, the more I want & need to know. After making contact with a few "cousins" out there I've often thought of how great it would be to get together and meet other like-minded extended family members. Hence this idea. I know that some of the larger families have had family reunions throughout the years. My thought was that since so many of the "founding" families of Stonington intermarried, why not have the "Ultimate Family Reunion" with all families included? In 2009, it will be the 360th anniversary of the founding of Stonington. What a great time for all of us to come and celebrate! Just sending this out to get a feel of what you may think about it. If there is an interest in doing so, please let me know. I have never tackled something this large so if there is an interest and others have experience in doing so, the help would be greatly appreciated. Granted, it's a way off but it'll probably take a lot of time to pull this one off! Hoping to hear from you ALL! Sincerely, Donna M. (Wheeler) Schumacher PS-Please forgive me if I have excluded any other families that should be included. Pass this on to them.
After reading the email below, I checked my 2005, and it seems all my notes are there, thank goodness! Iris Ok, now I really feel like I'm lagging behind. This past weekend I finally installed FTM 2005. I was nervous about updating the software and thankfully backed up my family files before doing it. What I have since noticed is that while the ged file size has not decreased, I have a lot of notes that are now just "gone". I have not gone through every person yet to see how much is missing but in the notes section where I had typed up copies of obits, census records and various other notes there is a fair amount that just no longer shows up. When any of you upgraded to 2005 did you have this issue and if so how did you take care of it? I found that if I copy the information to the notes secion again it shows up if I close and reopen the application. Right now the only thing that I think of is to make another copy of the ged file, reinstall the older version of FTM in a different folder and attempt to open up the file and go through each person to verify what did and did not get copied over. Thanks, Mike

I have no problem with 2005. Go to Edit and then hit NOTES. Everything should be there.
Some of my notes were converted to sources when I upgraded to FTM2006. You might check the Master sources to see if they may have ended up there. When I installed FTM 2005 it installed over FTM11 and I did not have any problems. All my notes were intact. I have since upgraded to FTM2006 and again have had no problems. If you are having problems I suggest you contact Genealogy.com for advise. You may find more problems if you try to re-install an older version and go between the two. Juliann: Right you are. However, understandably, the Census Bureau is pretty picky about how, and for whom, all that's handled. For those interested, I found a link I'd saved, and lo and behold it still works: http://www.census.gov/genealogy/www/agesearch.html --Hughes Williams http://www.relatedlines.com/ ----Original Message Follows---- From: "J Hansen" <[email protected]> Reply-To: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [WILLIAMS] Census Due out next? Date: Wed, 30 Nov 2005 23:25:14 -0500 Hi all, For whatever it's worth, I seem to recall you can request a search by the National Archives for a not-yet-released census record (i.e. 1940 or later), but you must pay a fee and have to provide proof of close relationship to the household of interest. I've never done this myself, but if someone really wants to check out the 1940 or a later census, this might be a possibility. Juliann

Barbara, That's actually an easy question. You look for wills, deeds, court records of all levels, marriage records of the couple, as well as some of the children which sometimes listed the parents names, death or birth records of the children or spouse, almost any kind of legal record one can think of. Also, look for old newspapers that may contain articles about the family, possibly even obituaries. There are many places online that offer such records, depending on the area, as well as the good old fashioned method of going to the County Courthouses, State Libraries which sometimes holds collections of family records for their areas as well as archived records, and of course the State Archives for whatever state you are researching, some of them have many many kinds of records for various counties in their area, and it is well worth your time to see what's there. A good primer about how to do research can be found at: http://www.familysearch.org/ Check out their links under "Get Started With Family History".
