    3. I am looking for any information concerning Elizabeth Victoria (Queen) Tidwell who was born 1837-1840, TX. She was the dau. of Rev. David J. Tidwell and Savilla Russell and apparently married a man named Williams sometime around 1858-60. In the "History of Limestone Co., TX" by Hampton Steele, she is referred to as Queen Williams, dau. of old man Tidwell, and is said to have married Jack Rasco (widower of Susan Davis). Steele mentions a son Tom Williams of Thornton, but it is possible she had another son Emmett Williams. I would appreciate any information that would help clarify these individuals.

    3. Just a geeky comment here, but with the cost of external hard drives dropping, the cost-per-megabyte of these handy storage devices are negligible. If you have a USB port--or even better, USB2 or FireWire--these little things awfully handy. With 200GB models going for around $150, I wouldn't be without one. And you don't have to worry about file sizes. I just copy everything on my PC--except the operating system files--over to an external drive every Saturday or Sunday night before I go to bed. Painless. And if I ever have a hard drive crash on the PC--which I've had happen before--it won't be as painful to get everything back up and running and, worst case, I lost only a few days' of data. --Hughes Williams http://www.relatedlines.com/ ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Sharon Dover Romanek" <[email protected]> Reply-To: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [WILLIAMS] need help with rootsweb family trees Date: Mon, 5 Dec 2005 11:27:35 -0500 The one bad thing is if your file gets too large to fit on one CD when you use your burner, it is NOT like the older versions were we used floppies to back up to and could just pop another in the drive and continue. 2. Sharon, Please do let us know if you find out you can or can not backup the FTM 2006 to CD's like we used to do with how ever many floppies it took. I have been using the 2006 version several months now and have no problems with it transferring my notes and sources. I also purchased the "Charting Companion" to go with it and I certainly like the Pedigree Chart in that one, as it has 31 ancestors on page 1 alone, through 5 generations. Peggy

    3. I'm using 2006 in my new computer. I have 11 in my laptop. I like 2006 but just getting to know it. I lost all my data in my old computer so now I make hard copies of everything every few days. Because now I'm have to slowly go back throug all my dozen of boxes to find my sources that I have kept. Also I using a differ line for all of mine lines it seems easier to locate different people for me. But I am seventy and not real good on a computer.Looking for William Williams born SC. about 1798. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Frank Williams" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 05, 2005 4:55 AM Subject: Re: [WILLIAMS] need help with rootsweb family trees >I use Family Tree Maker 2005 and I am still exploring all the >possibilities. 3. Sorry Kat, After going through a few hundred emails the last couple of days, I've lost you. I evidently messed up writing your email address wrong on the "list"! I know that it ends with @u.washington.edu. I tried a few variations without any luck. Please email me back! Donna

    2. I have all my major lines in one large file. I do have a separate file for one family line that was so confusing that I did not want to mingle it with the others. I also created a separate file for a family with the same surname (WILSON) that I suspect is related to mine, but there is no documentation. Both families lived in the same area within McMinn County, TN, and some descendants from both families migrated to Stone County, MO. Coincidence or kinship? Larry

    3. I have lots of lines, too, on my tree database, some of them not connected to any of my family, yet, but I do include them because of the value of the information contained in the files, and with the hope that someone may connect to them someday. Most family tree databases have a way to include different family lines in your online file, or to exclude them, usually with the program you use. I use PAF (Personal Ancestral File) from the LDS, a free downloadable program which has all kinds of options for making Gedcoms, and it is fairly easy to set the parameters for what you want to use for the Gedcoms you make. 2. I have separate files for my father's line and my mother's line. If I need to do anything that shows ancestry on both lines, I can set up another file that, either includes all of the data, or includes just the direct lineage. Good luck with finding your ancestors. 3. Peggy, You are so right. Many of us haven't found the families or individuals we want, but it sure is fun just pursuing them, isn't it? And even though there may not be direct info on one's ancestors, there can be ideas exchanged in how and where to check for information. I think the various Mailing Lists are a good place to get hints, and even learn a little history about the areas you are researching. For the most part, it is just enjoyable reading many of the posts, seeing what kind of info one has and giving hints when one has something to add. 3. Hi > I keep my family data in five files. Four of them start with a grandparent and follow their lines. I keeps the files smaller, not that I know so many ancestors. If I share information, it's simpler to give the receipient onty the data they want rather than everyone. The fifth file contains living relatives that only the priveleged few can see. By keeping this as a separate file I'm not likely to publish information that should not be public knowledge. I haven't had any instances of one line being related to another although some ancestors of my mother's father came from the same area as my father's mother's people (Piscataway, NJ). 3. I set up one big file, since Family Tree Maker (my software) allows me to print out only one line. I started out with three different files but found I was opening and closing files all the time just to get to another side of my family. I think, though, it is just a matter of which works better for you.
