    2. Then there is this to consider; their faith may have something to do with a quick move. Some of my ancestors were Quakers and the Puritans were not kindly toward them. They were in Sictuate in early 1600's and a few years later, in Perquimans parish, N.C. Mike Shannon ps, does anyone have a Unity Williams in there line?

    3. There may have been a Roger Williams from New England that migrated to VA but there is on the 1624/5 muster of people in VA the Roger Williams listed below. Since the Mayflower did not land at Plymouth Rock, MA until 1620 and the only Williams in the original members was Thomas Williams who died that first winter leaving no posterity, I would assume your Roger Williams from New England would have had to hustle to move to VA by 1624/5. Therefore, I calculate these are two entirely different people named Robert Williams early VA. Dorothy C. 3. May I ask what you show for an estimated birth year for James W.? There is a James W. Williams in the house of what looks to read Isalim Williams and wife Sarah in Buck Prairie, Lawrence Co., MO. James W. is 19 their son and single working on a farm. If you have Ancestry it is 1880 census District 90-Buck Prairie Twsp., Lawrence Co., MO-Image 17. If not try www.familysearch.org and search their free 1880 census database. I can try to help more if I have a bit more to go on with James W. if you know it. Just for the record there is no Jessie in any of the pages previous down as far as page 13, but there is a Samuel Williams on page 13.There is another Williams family on page 12 but she is not there either. That is the family of John, Margaret and daughter Flora Williams. I do not see her up to page 20 which is as high as this part of the census goes. 1. SW Missouri Williams
    2. I am going to end the old year and begin the new year looking for a family for my great-grandmother. I have been posting her information periodically for the past ten years, and have made no progress toward my quest. Her name is Jessie May Williams, born January 7, 1870. Census records of her children state that their mother was born in Missouri. In November 1885 she married James Wiley Williams in Mt. Vernon, Lawrence County, MO. His family lived in Buck Prairie Township - near the Barry and Stone County lines. James and Jessie were likely neighbors, and may have gone to the same school. Both were underage, which required parental consent. Consent for her marriage was given by F. M. Williams. James and Jessie had two children while in Missouri. Around 1899, the family migrated to Hunt County, Texas. Two more children, including my grandmother were born there. The youngest child died in August 1893. Jessie May became ill and was taken to Hot Springs, AR for treatment - she died there in January 1894 - a couple of weeks following her 24th birthday. Jessie May Williams should have appeared in the census of 1870 and 1880. In the 1880 census, I have examined everyone with a variant name (Jessie, Jessey, Jess, May, Mae, J.M.) in every state. I have not found anyone that has a parent or sibling with the initials F. M. Williams. F. M. could be a father, mother, grandparent, brother, uncle or other guardian. Jessie May could have been orphaned before 1885. It is also possible the that the name was written on the marriage license incorrectly. I would like to hear from anyone researching any Williams family in this tri-county area or anyone who has a family in which the name Jessie (or any variation) appears. Thanks in advance. Larry

    3. Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania, Volumes I-III Franklin Lawrence Sheppard and Howard Reynolds Sheppard Richard Westcott, whose ancestry has been traced back to 1170, in Devonshire England, and his brothers Strickly and William Westcott, came to Salem, Massachusetts, prior to 1636, and were members of the church there, of which Roger Williams was pastor. Strickly Westcott was one of those named with Roger Williams in the decree of banishment from the colony of Massachusetts Bay, made by the General Court March 12, 1638. Richard Westcott removed from Salem to Wethersfield, Connecticut, in 1639, and in 1644, to Fairfield, Connecticut, where he died in 1651. By his wife Joanna, he had children: John, Daniel, Joanna, and Abigail. Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania, Volumes I-III Abbot S. Cooke Daniel Cooke, son of John Cooke, was born at Saybrook, Connecticut, September 19, 1691. He became a resident of Providence, Rhode Island, where he married, February 4, 1713, Mary, daughter of Nicholas Power (3), granddaughter of Nicholas Power (2), who was slain at the famous capture of the Narragansett Fort, December 19, 1675, and a great-granddaughter of Nicholas Power (1), who was an associate of Roger Williams in the settlement of Providence and one of the thirteen purchasers of Shawomet (Warwick) from the Indians. He was a man of large means and his sudden death, intestate, August 25, 1657, was the occasion of what would now be regarded as a most extraordinary proceeding. Ten years after his death his estate being unsettled, the town council made a will for him, disposing of his property as they thought proper and not according to any rule of law. Mary (Power) Cooke was born March 29, 1696, died December 17, 1741. Daniel Cooke, her husband, died February 7, 1738. Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania, Volumes I-III Mrs. Robert Bruce Ricketts William Reynolds was born in Gloucestershire, England, in 1596, and in 1615, married Ruth ---. Of his ancestors little is known. It is stated that he came, by way of Bermuda, to the state of Massachusetts, where he was a member of the church of Salem. In 1637 he bought for two shillings sixpence, certain lands at Providence, Rhode Island, and is said to have engaged in business with Roger Williams. He was the second of the thirteen signers to the compact, which is as follows: "We, whose names are hereunder desire to inhabit the town of Rhode Island and do promise to subject ourselves in active and passive obedience to all such orders or agreements as shall be made for the public good of the body, in an orderly way, by the major assent of the present inhabitants, masters of families, incorporated together into town fellowship, and such others whom they admit unto them". Arnold, in his History of Rhode Island," states that these signers were the second comers. It is worthy of more than passing note that this declaration meant what it said; religious liberty in Rhode Island was apparently of first importance after an orderly government had been established. When the fundamental law of this nation was later established, the influence of Rhode Island was potent in securing a constitutional declaration which guaranteed to the freeman of all times in this land, the right to worship God according to the dictates of his own conscience. July 27, 1640, William Reynolds and thirty-eight others signed an agreement for a firm government. This was a more elaborate document than the first, but it preserved all the details of the first compact. November 17, 1641, Reynolds and twelve others complained in a letter to Massachusetts, of the "insolent and riotous carriage of Samuel Gorton and his company," and as petitioners desired Massachusetts to lend us a neighborlike helping hand, etc." Again, January 27, 1644, he and others of Providence testified as to the outrage on Warwick settlers by Massachusetts. January 27, 1645, William Reynolds sold Robert Williams all his houses and homeshare and three small pieces of meadow; on the same date he sold to William Field a share of six acres on Fox's Hill; and April 27, 1646, he sold to Thomas Lawton his valley containing eighty acres, and three acres of meadow, "provided that in any case hereafter the town shall be put to any charge about Indians, that he or they that doth possess the land shall pay their share". After the sale of his land at Providence, Rhode Island, it is supposed he settled at Kingston, Rhode Island, where he passed away. Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania, Volumes I-III Nathaniel Seymour Thomas Benjamin Smith, son of Christopher and Alice, born in England in 1631 did not accompany his parents to America, but followed them in 1658, having previous to his emigration been a soldier in Cromwell's army. He was a sergeant of a military company at Patuxet, Rhode Island, in 1659; eight years a deputy there, and nineteen years an assistant at Warwick, Rhode Island. His wife, Lydia Carpenter, who was baptized in Rhode Island by Roger Williams, was a daughter of William Carpenter and his wife, Elizabeth Arnold who was a daughter of William Arnold, of Dartmouth, England, who with his wife, Christian Peck, settled in Hingham, Massachusetts, in 1635, and removed, with the Peck family, to Patuxet, Rhode Island, in 1638. Benjamin Smith, (1661-1730), son of Benjamin and Lydia (Carpenter) Smith, married Phebe Arnold (1670-1730), daughter of Stephen Arnold, son of William and Christian (Peck) Arnold, above mentioned. Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania, Volumes I-III John Sparhawk Wurts John Throckmorton, father of Job, and grandfather of Mary (Throckmorton) Grandin, came from England with Roger Williams in the ship "Lyon" in 1631, and was one of the original proprietors of Rhode Island. Is this the same Roger Williams Biographical Sketch of Robert WILLIAM (1881); Chester County, PA Contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Sandra Ferguson <[email protected] net>. from Futhey and Cope's THE HISTORY OF CHESTER COUNTY (1881); " Robert William, of Merion, widower, was married at the house of Hugh Roberts, 4, 19, 1691, to Gwen Cadwalader. About the year 1700 they were settled in Goshen, probably on land then of Griffith Owen, at or near the present Goshen Friends' Meeting. He was sometimes called the King of Goshen, and it is claimed that he was the first settler in the township. Tradition says their first residence was a cave, and that on occasion, when their hearth-fire went out, he had to go seven miles to get it renewed. Goshen Meeting was held first, it is believed, at his house, though the record says at the house of Griffeth Owen, but the latter doubtless lived in Philadelphia. In 1715 they lived in Uwchlan Township and in that year conveyed the Goshen homestead to their son Ellis. Though he had considerable land in Goshen, he appears to have been in straitened circumstances, so that in 1702 Friends of Haverford contributed 19 pounds 9d. 8s. to him to build a new house, he having received Friends "kindly and open- hearted," and keeping the meeting in his house. In 1710, Edward Roberts complained of him for debt, and the meeting advised him to sell some of his land to pay for it and even appointed persons to assist him in doing it. He died in 1734, at the age of eighty-seven years. His children, so far as known, were. - 1. Elizabeth, m. to William Philips, 1708; 2. Ellis, who died 1756, m. Mary __ about 1712; she died 2, 7, 1753; 3. Lewis, m. about 1720, to Ann, daughter of James Thomas; 4. John, perhaps a son,[sic] m. Jane ____: 5. Ann, b. 1700, m. Griffith John; 6. William, m. 10, 3, 1723, at Uwchlan Meeting, Joan Pugh, daughter of James Pugh, of Uwchlan, d. in Vincent, 7, 17, 1744; 7. Grace, b. 3, 12, 1707, m. John Meredith; 8. Hannah, m. 3. Hi: My name is Tina Williams Swyers. My e-mail is [email protected] I am researching my Williams line. They come from Amelia,Virginia, Newberry and Laurens Co., South Carolina, Mayfield, Graves Co.,Kentucky and then Willow Springs, Howell Co., Missouri. My home address is 2201 N. 21st St. Independence, Kansas My phone number is 620-330-2731 Other names in my family include: Dawson, Norman, Prather, Oaks. Tina Williams Swyers Donna Schumacher <[email protected]> wrote: First and foremost, Let me apologize to the lists and/or individuals who are not concerned and/or have no interest what-so-ever. This should be the last time I do a mass mailing for those that are. A Big Hello to Everyone! or as I used to say "Hey, y'all"!, I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and that the New Year brings you everything you may want and need! I won't ask for too many things of you for the next few years, hopefully. That is why I decided I had better ask now and get it out of the way. The only things right now that I really need of anyone is that you send me your last names, email addresses, home addresses, phone numbers, and "Family" name of origin(s). Some of you already have, thank you. No personal information will be given out to anyone for any reason whatsoever!. This is just a way that I will be able to keep track of everyone who is interested in the reunion. It will be the only way to keep track of the ones who have paid/pre-paid for any of the events, ie., lunch, dinner, etc. I would not want someone to come to this who hasn't taken care of their fair share. I would also ask that you subscribe to the newsletter on the site. This way I won't have to add all these emails addresses to a separate site. As it is, some people have said that they are interested and want to be kept up-to-date with everything, but have not left an email address as to where I can make contact. I would hate for someone to miss out on something! As far as the newsletter goes, I first thought that I would attempt to do it on a monthly basis. At this point in time, I really don't see a need in it. When the time gets closer, maybe within a years time, maybe. If something should come up of great interest, concern, or otherwise, I will definitely send something out. For some that have not looked at the site in some time, I have added a page "Your Family Photos". There are some pretty interesting ones on there already. If you have some and would like to share, please feel free in sending them on and I will post them. I have plenty of room for 500 on the site. If you have other things such as something an ancestor had written about years ago and might be of interest, there is the "Article" section. I'll be more than happy to post it there. Check it out, again, pretty interesting! Someone observed that the message board is not being utilized to the best of its ability. Granted, there is not a lot of information about one family in particular there unlike some other larger family sites. This is a little different from others because it includes so many families with many other connections available from one town in particular. We all have cousins out there that have hit brick walls or are just getting started that could use all of our help. So, please if you see someone that could use your help in finding something or someone, help your brother and sister (cousin, I should say) out! Ideas have been coming in, and one in particular, seems to be one that would be great if we can get it together. We would like to get family recipes together in order to have it printed. It would be a great fund-raising project in order to keep the costs down on everything. My thinking on this, also, is that any "leftover" books not bought amongst ourselves, will be sold at the time, there in Stonington, the remainder will be donated to the local historical societies so that they might also profit from it. So get those recipes sent it! I challenge all the handicrafters out there to come up with something that they are willing to donate. I have been knitting for over 30 some years now. (I can hear all those, ugh, not hand-knit stuff from grandma!, yuk!) I am planning on designing a one of a kind afghan/throw to be donated for the cause. I will have to post some of my pictures of what I have made. Believe me, some have said that I bought them and claimed that I knitted them because they do look very professional if I do say so myself! Another idea would be to "save your pennies". I bet if everyone saved all that loose change collecting dust, it would add up to a "pretty penny" in a couple of years! If any of you have any other ideas, please send them in. Every little bit helps. For all the people who have offered help, let me know what ideas you may have. What areas of reunion planning are you interested in helping in, What do you specialize in?, What committee you would like to be one?, etc. I have come up with a number of areas as far as that is concerned, just let me know and I'll reciprocate. On the "Poll" page, it came to my attention that you can only vote for one thing per question. Please go back and click on whatever again. As far as "Other - please specify", I understand that that cannot be done. Just email me with your suggestion. If you have more ideas and/or questions you would like posted, just let me know. All the information gathered will be used as a majority rules in most cases. All of your opinions count! When it comes to brass tacks and you really want to talk with me, you can call anytime on my cell phone. I get free unlimited incoming all the time and free nights/weekends outgoing. I have it charged at all times! 816-969-9981 In addition to everything I am checking out right now I am also going from front cover to back of the book The History of Stonington and others. As you can see on the site all of my family connections. I'm going person by person, checking and cross checking, trying to get everything a bit more accurate. I'm only in the D's right now so it make take a couple of more weeks before I'm finally finished. I made the mistake of adding some information automatically off of Ancestry.com which is so totally wrong. I won't make that one again. Takes too much time to correct! I have more information about other families from Stonington but not have included them only because they are "cousins" and not direct lineages. I guess I have gone on long enough. I need to post this to the Rootsweb family lists and other sites to get a few more people interested! 1. Ultimate Family Reunion - 2nd Update
    2. Donna Schumacher
    3. First and foremost, Let me apologize to the lists and/or individuals who are not concerned and/or have no interest what-so-ever. Until next time, Donna Ultimate Family Reunion www.ultimatefamilyreunion.atomicshops.com [email protected]
