I am having fits trying to find my people! Here is what I have so far: (ME) (My dad) Claude Leonard Jessey Lyman Pratt Jessey m. Lillian Clark Peter B Jessey m. Mary Jane Bampton divorced Aug 24, 1893 six days later married my g grandmother Margeret Crocker Peter Jessey1 born around 1778 in Canada possible Calista Sampson is Peter Jessey mother wife of first Peter Jessey and that's it, and I have been looking on and of for three years!!! According to Census reports of Peter B, he was born in Vermont, Calista(mother) not wife was also born in Vermont. I have her obit, but it's sketchy, doesn't mention much about her husband, Peter (SR)ACcording to the obit though, they moved around a LOT!! married in Bridport, VT joined M.E. Church, had three children. Moved to Erie, PA had one child. Moved to Ohio had 5 children there. Moved to New Buffalo, IN, then Kalamazoo, Mich. Then to Milwaukee, WI, then on to Portage, WI and FINALLY Grand Rapids, WI in 1859. (this was the only date mentioned) At the time of obit it states that there were only three living children, but I'm not sure if that meant none of the other 6 survived childhood or survived to date. In the June 1, 1860 census of Grand Rapids the following people were listed under Calista Jesse (note the spelling) Calista, 47 seamstress (I think that's what it says) b VT this Peter, 23, Pilot on River, b VT Henry (or Harry?), 17, --, b. Ohio Henry Byron Jessey Emma Feegles, 20, --- b. Ohio Willie Feegles, 3, -- b. Wisconsin Now I am assuming that Emma was one of their children, I found a Henry Jessey in July 9, 1870 census who was 26 (maybe hadn't had birthday yet) born in Ohio also but living in Missouri?? His occupation was Carpenter, I know that there were several carpenters in the family... Also another child that was born in Vermont, was Celeste Eliza Jessey(Calissta married F.W Burt) who married F.W Burt, was already married during the first census that I mentioned. That leaves one child born in Vermont unaccounted for. and 3 in Ohio, not to mention the one in PA. Please contact with me on ancestry.com Cheryl Turner we are researching this family line and have found polygamy which was practiced until 1890 I have a letter from Mrs. F.W. Burt to her brother Peter Jessey 2 research found her married to John Baptiste Du Bay a man with 6 wives Calissta being number 2. There is a DuBay bridge in Wisc and much written about John Du Bay including a murder trial that left him penniless and living with a daughter before his death. Look up fur traders in Marathon County John DuBay Milkuakee Museum I know that is not spelled right sorry Fellow history buff, Cheryl Crary Turner HELP ME!!!
