Next we can work on the discrepancies in various records. :-) FamilySearch.org database of the 1880 Census, Ward 5, Sheboygan, Sheboygan, WI, BARTINHAGEN {sic}, Claus, 45, worker in chair factory; Mary, 33; Diedrick, 17; Mary, 13; Katie, 11, all b. Hanover; Nicholas, 1, b. WI. [Notice that Katie was 11 in 1880, so b. 1868/9. If she came at age one, the immigration would have been 1869/70, but other records say imm. 1872 {or 1881, incorrect}.] FamilySearch IGI verifies death date for Claus, 13 Mar. 1913. Heinrich Dietrich BARTENHAGEN, son of Maria and Claus, m. 22 Oct. 1892, Lincoln Co., WI, Mathilda Caroline Wilhelmine KRUESS, dau/o Barbara LOTHHOLY & August KRUESS. Scott., Lincoln, WI, 1905: BARTHENAGEN H. D., 40, b. Germany; wf. Matilda, 30; ch. Mary, 11; William, 6; Henry, 1; Carl, 3 mos. FamilySearch.org has a copy of the actual 1900 census. I believe that Claus was listed as Claus, not Charles, though his name is hard to see. (Transcription ad GenWeb says Charles, & I also thought it was Charles at first reading.) On the same page, the birth month of Julius POPHAL is listed as April 1861, and Katie, Apr. 1868. Henry BARTENHAGEN, b. July 1864, & family are on the same page. FamilySearch and Wisconsin Historical Society have Carl Julius Herman POPHAL, son of Wilhelm POPHAL & Johanna TESSMAN, m. 2 Nov. 1889, Lincoln Co., Katharinia BATENHAGEN {sic}, dau/o Claus BATENHAGEN & Maria SCHLIETMANN. Do you have an actual record showing their marriage on 21 Nov.? Census of 1910, Scott, Lincoln, WI, BARTENHAGEN, Claus, 71, he & parents b. Germany, imm. 1881 {sic, ca. 1870/2}; wf. Mary, 65; with Frank SCHULT, 39; & Augusta, 29. POPHAL, Julius, 49; Kata, 42; Martha, 19; Mary, 18; Bertha, 15; Minna, 14; Augusta, 12; Margate, 10; Emma, 8; Herman, 6; William, 3; Lena, 21 months, Carl, 11 months. Franz SCHULT, 30, b. Maine, Marathon, WI, s/o Maria _ & Wilhelm SCHULT, m. 5 Oct. 1901, Scott, Lincoln, WI, Augustine BARTENHAGEN, 20, b. Sheboygan, WI, d/o Maria SCHLICHMAN & Claus BARTENHAGEN. Claus RUTHER, 20, b. Hanover, Germany, s/o John RUTHER & Hedwig LAURHIS, , m. 28 Apr. 1906, Scott, Linc., WI, Helena BARTENHAGEN, d/o Claus BARTENHAGEN & Maria SCHLECHTMAN. Census of 1900, Merrill, Lincoln, WI, FEHR, John, b. Dec. 1866, & wf. Margarett, b. Aug. 1870, they & parents b. Switzerland, imm. 1894, m. 6 y. Ch. b. WI: John, Nov. 1895, & Ursula, Feb. 1898. [Immigration in 1894, married in 1893, WI?] Census of 1920, Lincoln Co., WI, FEHR, John, 53, wf. Margaretha 49, they & parents b. Switzerland; John, 24; Andrew P., 19; Christina M., 14; Paul P., 10. Niece Mabele V. GURBIG, 9, b. WI, father b. Germany, mother b. Switzerland. John FEHR registration for WW II: b. 14 Nov. 1895, Lincoln Co., WI, 143 lbs., 5' 11", blue eyes, black hair, ruddy complexion, self-employed farmer, Gleason & Russell, WI [copy of actual record, FamilySearch.org. Change the number at the top to see the second page.] Social Security Death Index verifies birth and death dates for John FEHR, Lincoln Co., WI. When I was Googled "Chat Community Cemetery," I found its location on County Road H west of County Road K, Old Highway 51, Birch, WI, and an address for lookups in Lincoln County, Sharon Karow, slkarow AT aol DOT com. Good Luck! --not my family Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
