I was looking over a couple of obits I have for my ggf Edward Ryan who died in Merrill in 1922. One says that funeral arrangements were held under the auspices of the "Woodman Lodge" while the other mentions the "Modern Woodman Order". Does anyone know anything about this organization? Thanks, Margaret

This most likely refers to the Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal benefit (i.e., insurance) organization. It still exists today, with headquarters in Rock Island, Illinois. Their company historian will answer queries about people for whom they paid death benefits. (There is at least one other similar organization with a similar name [but including the word "World"], which split off from the MWA.) Rollie
