Does any one have records on the Lincoln County Poor House in Merrill? What was this place?
I'm open to correction on this, having never heard that name used for it, but I think you may be referring to what was called the old County Home when I was growing up in the 1940s and 50s. It was on the left side (north I guess) of Highway 17 as you headed northeast out of Merrill toward Gleason. My memory is poor on this, but I think it was brick and it was at least two stories. It's gone now, if that's the place. I think Pinecrest Nursing Home would be its successor, so the start of Pinecrest would probably be the date of the end of the old County Home. Again, I may be all wet on this, and will welcome elucidation. Hope this helps. Tom -- Tom Vaughan, Editor The Mancos Times-Tribune Serving the beautiful Mancos Valley since 1892 P.O.
