    2. this might come in handy - also for the Lincoln county people - I have the home page fixed so you can check out the Lincoln County indexes. 1. [WILINCOL-L] from the listowner - new page
    2. Hi all, I have a new page - I did an index for The First 100 Births, Marriages and Deaths in Lincoln County. I do have the book at home, so I will look up names for anyone. Please check the page to make sure that your surname is actually listed! Send me the name and page number(s) and I will let you know the dates and event. If you have any trouble loading the page, or find that links are broken, please let me know. Someone suggested that I do census indexing, and as I am currently training my replacement at work, I hope to do something in this line this summer. Of course, If anyone has lots of free time, I do accept help. I was not worried about Y2k, but JUST IN CASE, I did backups. And thank goodness I did, because the computer ate my home page for Lincoln County. When I went to put the new index on the page, it had disappeared! But it had backed up -- where did it go from 12/30/99 to 1/10/00? On vacation, perhaps? Anyway, I hope 2000 is good to all of you. If you have any suggestions for improvements, I am open to all! May not happen, but who knows? Thanks for being members of this list! <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~wilincol">Lincoln County Wisconsin WiGenWeb< /A> Shelley

    1. [WILINCOL-L] TARRANT-FEDEREN-SHANNON
    2. Hello to the Great State of Wisconsin, I am searching for any information anyone can provide me with regard to the surname TARRANT and FEDEREN. Both families lived in various parts of the state, but spent quite a bit of time in the Minneapolis area. I am searching for PHILIP FEDEREN (1883) and his wife EDITH FEDEREN (1884) and their two children FABIOLA TARRANT (1897) and CECILE TARRANT (1893). They were last known to be in the Twin Cities area in 1944, but their descendants could be anywhere by now. They were relatives of GEORGE A. SHANNON AND ISABELLA (McDonald) SHANNON of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and their son ROBERT D. SHANNON, who was last known around 1942-44 to be living in Spencer, Iowa. Robert's wife was named JESSE and his children were ANNABELLE and GEORGE, also of Chippewa Falls, WI. Sometime around 1940-45, the family and the germane cousins and step-relatives scattered about the state for an unknown reason, so I'm asking for help from anyone in ANY Wisconsin County. Any information regarding these families or their descendants would be greatly appreciated. Yes, this was posted to every board in Wisconsin because the families scattered and I'm at the point of desperation. It conforms to the guidelines established by RootsWeb, USGenWeb and that awesome upstart ALHN, so it IS NOT considered spam. Take care all. I wish you the best of luck with your own searches. 1. [WILINCOL-L] Merrill in the Aughts and Teens
    2. Vincent D'Amore
    3. Hello, I am new to the list so here are my reasons for joining and everything I know. My grandfather, LESLIE E. RYAN was born in Merrill in 1898 and lived there until he was about 14. His family was very poor and something happened in his childhood that made him extremely reluctant to discuss it. My mother tells me, however that he always liked Merrill. We were recently going through some of his old papers when we found some postcards that he had sent to my grandmother and her parents in the Bronx, NY when he was on a trip to Merrill trying to find some record of his birth. He didn't find a birth certificate and had to settle for his school records as proof of citizenship (evidently the building that housed the records had burned down). Anyway, the postcards are the hand tinted type from the thirties and do show a very pleasant town. I am looking for anyone who can tell me about Merrill in the early 1900s-especially from a child's perspective. Leslie's father was EDWARD D. RYAN and all I know about him is that he came from NY, worked in the logging camps, was supposedly the first telegrapher in Wisconsin and might have been a drinking man. Also, he died a cripple in the county home-probably a form of Muscular distrophy that runs in our family. He would have headed west some time after 1885 with his wife OLIVE BALDWIN and a brother of his. This brother was supposed to have been a hell cat in a fight. I get the impression that Edward and his brother were big on fighting and that they made a dangerous team. Despite the name, they were Episcopalian but attended whatever church was closest. Edward and Olive had 11 children (all born in Merrill) but only 3 survived beyond childhood (BURTON, Leslie and a sister, DAISY RYAN). Was such high infant mortality normal? What was life in the camps like? Did the families go with the men or did they stay behind in Merrill? What church & what school might he have attended I know I have a lot of questions but I do want to get a better understanding of what my grand father's life was like. Any and all bits of info or reading recommendations greatly appreciated. Thank you, Margaret Malloy

    3. Hello everyone, I have just finished 3 more pages of the Village of Medford, Taylor County 1880 census. Pages 13, 14, and 15 are now online to view. To go directly to page 13, use this url: http://www.usgennet.org/~alhnwius/vlgMedford1880pg13.html and then just hit next to view consecutive pages. I am also working on the Little Black, Taylor Co 1880 census. Hopefully I will finish both shortly. If you go to the census index page at: http://www.usgennet.org/~alhnwius/censusindex.html - you will see a list of other counties and townships that have no links. I have: Marathon County Clark County Taylor County Shawano County censuses for 1890 (Vets) that I am working on transcribing as you read this. I am hoping to begin entering those censuses online as soon as I have Medford and Little Black for 1880 finished. You can enter a surname, topic, or whatever you are interested in and it will tell you exactly where and what page you can find the information located.
