Posted on: Lincoln Co. Wi Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/Lincoln/10262 Surname: BELL ------------------------- Here are additional items concerning my research on the Bell families in Lincoln County. My Bell connections to Lincoln County are by the way of Peter Bell who moved there in 1883. His wife's name was Henrietta. They had Gertrude, Francis, George, Eugene, Charles and Laura. Peter is buried in the Catholic portion of the cemetery by Memorial Park in Merrill and died at the age of 39 in 1893. I was able to locate a copy of his obituary by searching through the microfilmed newspapers at T.B.Scott Library, starting from the date of his death and found it that way. The article mentions that he originally was from Canada, however, I have since found a delayed birth record of his son, George, that says George was born in Marshfield, so he was probably in Marshfield at least a couple of years. What I am wondering about is did any of Peter's brothers move up to the Merrill-Tomahawk area to work in the mills and factories also. I have been thinking about that for years but just didn't know of anyone to tie it to as none of my remaining Bell relatives know of names of Peter's parents or his sisters or brothers. His obituary did not mention any other names, just that he had six young children. If you happen to see anything that might look like it fits please let me know. Peter's wife, Henrietta, was a seamstress in Merrill. I found that out when I was looking through some of the old newspapers on microfilm at the library--just happened to see it. There was a mention of her opening her second shop at Grand Ave. and Prospect, I believe. She was also called Etta Bell.

Posted on: Lincoln Co. Wi Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Wi/Lincoln/10260 Surname: BELL, REYNOLDS, HUGHES, FOSTER, STEVENS, WHALEN ------------------------- I am searching for information on Jenny Hughes (also known as Margarette Jane Hughes). She was the daughter of Garrett Hughes Sr. (1808-1873) and Katherine Whalen (1807-1898). Jenny was born circa 1852. She married a Mr. Reynolds, thought to be William but not sure. The Hughes and Reynolds farms were nearby in Cleveland Township, Marathon County, Wisconsin. I have a record of marriage of a Vinnie E. Reynolds to Harry Bell both of Tomahawk, Lincoln Co., WI. which took place 6 May 1916. Harry, age 32, was the son of Chas. E. Bell and Nancy Stevens. Vinnie, age 27, was said to be the daughter of Frank A. Reynolds and Jennie F. Foster. Perhaps Jenny Hughes was married first to a Mr. Foster? Mrs. Geo. Lambert of Tomahawk and Harry Reynolds of Bradley, WI were witnesses at this wedding. Harry and Vinnie had a son Allen born in 1918. This may be part of my Jenny Hughes - Mr. Reynolds family. Please let me know if you have anything on these folks that might clear up the mysteries. Thanks. Patti

No - go to the Stevens Point archives for this. A lot of old records ( such as naturalization papers, births, deaths and marriages - pre 1907) are kept at the archive division at Stevens Point. They have the records for Adams, Forest, Juneau, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Oneida, Portage, Vilas, Waupaca, Waushara and Wood counties. The address is: Area Reseach Center University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Stevens Point, WI 54481 Ph 715-346-2586 e-mail [email protected] The researchers have been very helpful to me in the past. The cost is $5.00 per search, and .25 per copy. A bill will be sent to you. The following is also about the archives of Stevens Point. from Andy Bartelt of Stevens Point. You can also email the UW-SP library and have them check their 1972 Wausau Centennial Collection for your surname: http://www.shsw.wisc.edu/archives/arcnet/stevens.html If your name is listed there they will make you a copy of the record and mail it to you for a nominal fee. This collection consists of thousands of family genealogies of Wausau residents which were done for their centennial celebration. They sent out volunteers to all the residents and took down their family histories. The LDS is currently negotiating with the library to microfilm this collection and may eventually be available at their research centers. You can also do research and check the index AND genealogy holding for free in their research room on the 5th floor of the campus library. UW-SP is a repository (as are all the main UW campuses) for a 5 county area adjoining Portage County and contains numerous school, birth, death, marriage, naturalization, etc. records for these 5 counties and as taxpayers we can search these records free. Nominal fees for photocopies.

Hello all! I have a cemetery index for Greenwood Cemetery. It was contributed to the Wisconsin Genealogical Society Newsletter in 1995 by Mary Lagerbloom. She is the hero! Please give me name and I will check it out for you. May take awhile to get back to you as there are many entries and not alphabetized. Warmest Regards, Dawn Nash Durbin [email protected] http://hometown.aol.com/endos/myhomepage/heritage.html
Hi all -- I am leaving on vacation 4/3 and will be gone thru 4/10. So if anyone writes to me during that time, you will NOT get an answer. I'll catch up when I come back. And I have all the townships of Marathon, 1880 census online. The only one left is the city of Wausau, and that is being worked on right now! Shelley

LINCOLN COUNTY COURTHOUSE Register of Deeds, Jolene Callahan 1110 E. Main St. Merrill, WI 54452 ph. 715-536-0318 They have all the birth, death and marriage records for Lincoln County. They will make copies if you can give them the location of the files needed. The cost is $12.00 for a birth record, and $7.00 for marriage and death records. You will need to give them your reasons for wanting the records (usually genealogy), and also full information - they need exact dates for example, and don't do look-ups.
Would someone please send me the address where I may obtain an uncertified copy of a death rcord for a person who died in Merrill, Wis. Any would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Everett Smith, [email protected] Eat a balanced diet, have a chocolate chip cookie in each hand.
