Thank all of you for the replies for the information On George's family. I would like to start with some background information on George. He was the son of John and Nancy Jane PRINCE WILHITE. I will give his birth date in a moment. He married Nancy Ann Ballard on the 8th day of Jan 1847 in Montgomery Co. KY. He did join the Union Army Oct 9th 1861 from Bath Co. KY. His pension number is #246588. He was injured in the Civil War. State of Kentucky County of Menifee In the matter of George B Wilhite Personally came before me JJByrne clerk of the County Court in and for aforesaid County and state George B Wilhite aged 60 years (on the 17th day of last September) -----thank you very much for his birthday Doris Hamilton----- whose Post office address is Cornwell Menifee County Ky and who being by me duly sworn declares that he was a private in Company E 24 Regt Ky Vol Inf. and that whilst returning detached service9through the Counties of Bath and Montgomery in Ky) from Mt. Sterling Ky to Frankfort Ky where the Regt was stationed, at Winchester in Clark County with probably 150 other soldiers whom as he now recollects all belonged to his regt were camped in the Court house at said town of Winchester which Court house and the yard surrounding it is on an elevated piece of ground being several feet higher than the streein front of it said Wilhite (do not miss this -- Doris Hamilton) while attending to a call of nature fell over or from the top of the stone wall around the Court house yard by which he received injuries of the right shoulder, arm, wrist and hand. (on his grave I swear he did not had a drop of alcohol in his system, maybe just a quart or so ---Doris Hamilton-- The exact date of the injury cannot now be remembered but is fixed by the following facts, after the injury and before recovery a deep snow fell at Frankfort Ky where the regt was stationed this he remembers clearly from the fact that his son Volney M. Wilhite was a delicate boy and a private in the 40 Regt Ky Inf who from exposure afterward died at Lexington Ky and on the night of the snow storm he endeavored to have him relieved from Pickett durty and further after the inmjury was received and before recovery a lone sergeant of the 103 or 104 Ohio Vol Inf was killed while attempting to cross a bridge at Frankfort by Corporal James Terry of the 24 Ky Vol Inf Co. as he believes which ar the time creates very great excitement. Col Gilbert acting Brig Genl was in Command art the time. The affiant was not aboe to perform duty at this time ------- of by reason of the injuries heretofore received and herein ------of Witnesses,Henry Day Thomas ------- Signed George B Wilhite ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dated 10 day of May 1883 His birthday is now 17 Sep 1822.
