    3. "Absolum Wilhoite is listed on the 1820 Census of Union Parish, Louisiana. He evidently moved here about 1816, plus or minus some. He left White County, Tennesee, by building a flat boat, drifting down the Tennessee River & the Mississippi River to New Orleans, LA. There he decided to settle in Union Parish. He was towed up the Miss. River and the Ouachita River to Monroe, Louisiana. Broke up the boat and sold the lumber; went by wagon to what is known as the Wilhite settlement in Union Parish. This can be located in the northeast section of Monroe, Louisiana. There are many Wilhites there today. Absolum Wilhoite was probably born in North Carolina, at least that is what his son, Thomas Jefferson Wilhite, says on the 1880 census of Ashley County, Ark. Mr. Pipes has a deed from Absolum to his father, Jacob Wilhoit, in 1802. Absolom and Jacob Wilhoite evidently left North Carolina in about 1814 and moved first to Green County, Tennessee, as Cartwright list a grant to Jacob, but it was given in 1788 but was not taken up until 1814 or about. Evidently, Absolom moved on th White County, Tennessee, where his son Thomas Jefferson Wilhite, was born." Source: from copy of letter to Mrs. Florence Mitchell, Sparta, Tennessee from Thomas E. Pipes, 1410-16th St., Lake Clarles, LA 70601. Probably written in the mid 1960s. Note from Sharon Wilhite Powers: Thomas Pipes (Grandson of Susannah Catherine Wilhite d/o Thomas Jefferson Wilhite) was doing research in the mid 1960's. He assumed that Absolum was the son of Jacob Wilhite, now it is a general concensus among researchers that Jacob was his brother. I have not seen the 1880 census so you need to verify this information yourself. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 3. This is wonderful -- thank you very much! I do have access to the 1880 census index at a nearby Family History Center, so I can check that and get the page citation. Is there any specific evidence that led reseachers to reach the consensus that TJ Wilhite was the son of Abolum and brother of Jacob?
