    3. Hi, Gary --- My memory says the telegraph lines were the primary communications method established for use by railroads for company business communications. Public telegraph messages were also handled, for a price, but the real reason for their existence was the business communications of the railroads. The poles and wires ran along the edge of the track right-of-way. For where they ran, find old railroad maps for the area of interest.
