Another question please. The Charlotte Ann Stratton being married to John Hall. All I've ever found was a reference to Charlotte A. (no last name) so was very pleased to see the last name. Thanks for replying. John Hall Wilhite (1796) was my 3rd gr grandfather; William Hall Wilhite (1827), 2nd gr grandfather, then through his daughter Charlotte Ann Wilhite (1848). Have you any information on William Hall Wilhite's children? So far, I have found only the one child. Also, you mention you are through John Henry (son of John Hall Wilhite and Charlotte Stratton) and Mary Elizabeth Paugh. I don't show a John Henry as a son of theirs. Instead I show a John Hall (1829) and Roxanne Stewart. Am I missing a son? Could you send the information you have on John Hall Wilhite and Charlotte Ann Stratton? Thanks for your help. Audrey

This might need some additional research, I remember my father, Lee Roy WILHOITE, telling us kids that him, his brothers and sisters used to walk 5 miles to school in Flat Creek, he was born in 1910, but I'm nor sure where they lived at. Ruth Rutledge Broyles Obit Died: 01-17-2002 JONESBOROUGH - Ruth Rutledge Broyles, 89, of Sherwood Drive, Johnson City, died Thursday at her home. [Jonesborough is in Washington County, Tennessee]. Mrs. Broyles was a native of Sullivan County and a daughter of the late Floyd L. and Ethel Gross Rutledge. She was the widow of David L. Broyles. She was a graduate of Washington College High School, which later became Washington College Academy. Mrs. Broyles received a bachelor of science degree from Teachers College in Johnson City, which later became East Tennessee State University, and a master's degree in 1968 from ETSU. She was a member of Sigma Omega Society and Johnson City Girl Scout Council, a former president of Jonesborough Elementary School and High School Parent-Teacher Association, Washington County PTA Council, and on the board of managers for the Tennessee Congress of Parents-Teacher for two years. Mrs. Broyles was a teacher in the Washington County School System from 1934 when she began teaching at what was then Jonesborough High School. She was principal for nine years at Cherokee Elementary School. She served as secretary of the Washington County Vocational Advisory Council and was a member of the Washington County/Johnson City Schools Study Committee, and was a long-range planning committee member of the Washington County Board of Education. Mrs. Broyles was president of the Washington County Retired Teachers Association and the Tennessee Retired Teachers Association. She was appointed to the Washington County Commission and elected as a commissioner in 1982 and 1986. She was an active member of the Washington County Historical Association and served as president, 1984-85. She was a main contributing author for The History of Washington County in 2001 and was secretary-treasurer for the Maple Lawn Cemetery and Old Jonesborough Cemetery, 1980-1996. She was appointed as a trustee of the Watauga Regional Library and had served as treasurer and member of Jonesborough/Washington County Library Board. She was chairman of the Jonesborough Civic Trust, 1983-84, and worked with the National Association for the Preservation and Perpetuation of Storytelling. She was president of Jonesborough Tuesday Garden Club, 1984-86; was chairman of Jonesborough/Washington County History Museum Administrative Board; was a member of Jonesborough Area Senior Adult Center; and had served on the Advisory Board and Council at Appalachian Christian Village. Mrs. Broyles had served as Colonel, Aide de Camp, for the Governor's Staff with the State of Tennessee, on behalf of the people, in 1988. She also received the E. Harper Johnson Human Relations Award from the Tennessee Education Association in 1998. Mrs. Broyles was a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA) for most of her life. She was a Sunday school teacher for more than 65 years, a choir member, chairman of various committees, elder, president of the Women's Association, Presbyterian (Eastern Tennessee area) officer, including president and vice president of Synodical of the South. She also served on the Holston Presbytery Administrative Committee as chairman, as search committee chairman for Holston Presbyterian Women, as historian of the Presbyterian Women of Synod of Living Waters, as a member of the division of ministry and the Synod of Living Waters member, and as a member of the Church Council for Tusculum College. Survivors include two daughters: Nancy McCracken of Bristol and Dava Lee Russell of Jonesborough; one son: Joe Broyles of Jonesborough; two sisters: Jessie Taylor of Limestone and Jean Slagle of Erwin; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 Sunday afternoon at the church. The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday at Jonesborough Presbyterian Church with interment in Maple Lawn Cemetery. Dr. Angus Shaw and the Rev. Beth Yarborough will officiate. I found recently you have to be very careful using the index to the Family Search 1880 Census (on disks). Most of the family in Owen Co., KY are listed by the known variations of WILHITE and WILHOIT. This new one threw me. The variation WILHOYT(E) was mistranscribed as WILHOGT and WILHOGTE. And entering either of these into the search box would not bring up the other. They had to be entered separately. So really use your imagination with this index if you are not finding your people. Fred

He was born in Claysville, Webster County KY on 10/4/1885. His parents were "Dock" Moore (born in Kentucky) and Mary Willbright (born in Tennessee). Due my grandparents lack of education, accents and lack of contact with his mother, I believe the true spelling could have been lost. The Bible lists Mary as having a brother and sister, Jesse and Anghline. The spelling of the sister's name made me think that they were of German ancestry. "Dock" has a brother and sister listed Harve and Ann. "Dock" could have been a nickname - but rumor has it that he was a doctor and she was a missionary to the indians - or vice versa - who knows at this point. Mary was supposedly married twice and after the death of her second Moore husband she joined a wagon train, left Kentucky with her young son and moved to Northeast Missouri. We believe she died in or around Senath MO. John Ira was supposedly an only child - but the family Bible lists one brother Harve E and three sisters Fannie, Cora and Evaline. Also listed are Fannie's two children Nathan and Pearl. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone out there. I would appreciate any assistance. This branch of the tree just dropped off. Thank you. Just wondering if "anything" is known or even theorized as to the parents of Mary McCoy who is said to be the wife of John P.(Pitman) Wilhite (I am writing from memory). Who were the Mc Coy head of households etc. in the area of the wilhites. Possibly Green Co. Tenn. Was she of the McKoy family of Pike Co. Ky. Is there an area for recommended for research?
