No message..Lorene Strano, re:Ancestry.com
Thanks, that helped, but you have to pay more than $59 to get any info worth while. When I get time I will try to contact them and find out just what they charge to go to all their sites. Sometimes you also have to log on more than once. I'll have to get out their receipts and look up their phone number again. Lorene Strano
I just thought I'd put my two cents in - I'm living in Germany and I have a full subscription to Ancestry.com. I think it's one of the best buys I could make for my ongoing family searches. How else could I sit on a different continent and look at original census images from the early 1800's? Ancestry offers what it calls a U.S. subscription that includes all the family entries and the census records at $99.90 per year. That's less than $10 per month and much, much less than many of us would pay on a weekend trip to check out records in a small town or at one of the major libraries. Much data has been made available free through the work of many wonderful volunteers, but even RootsWeb wouldn't have been able to stay alive on a free basis if it hadn't merged with Ancestry.com. Yes, they charge us, but I think the price seems pretty reasonable and if they don't make money why should they continue to provide the service? No one needs to use the online services; we can all go back to writing and waiting or traveling to get our information. We don't expect to get free copies when we write for records, why should we expect free online data. There are sites that are rip-offs, but Ancestry.com isn't one of them. These people certainly seem to try to provide service and value for the price. At least, that's been my experience. Patty Huggins
Lorene, I had the same problem. I'm going to send what they told me to do and it worked for me. <<If you are not being recognized properly when logged in to the Ancestry.com site you will want to log out and then log back in. To log out, simply click on the Log Out link at the top of the homepage (next to the My Account link). To login, do the following: 1. Click on the Login link at the top of the Ancestry.com website 2. Fill in both your username and password in their separate fields 3. Click on the Login button after the appropriate username and password have been entered 4. You will then be taken back to the previous page you were on and will be able to begin your searching>> Hope this works for you. Surprising how many answers I am getting claiming the same thing. One person said she bought the whole package with ancestry.com and is not having any problem. I e-mailed back to see just what package she bought. Will let you know. Lorene Strano. Looking for WILLIAMS, WILHITE, JACKSON, HUGHES, GERDES AND many, many more.

Not only ancestry.com but other sites too. I think they are all out to make money. I run into the same thing all the time. I wish there was an answer. Lately I've had some problems with users sending posts that exceed the maximum size allowed. The size that is now set is 15,000 bytes (15 Kb). Some users ARE limiting their posts of genealogy data to 15,000 bytes, but forget that headers and footers are added to all emails, and the resulting size is over the 15,000 byte limit. So, please, in the future, keep your posts to about 12,000 bytes so that the final size of the email is still under the 15,000 bytes limit. Thanks, SgtGeorge George W. Durman

Beatrice Bird Cutshaw Died: 04-09-2002 Beatrice Bird Cutshaw, 89, of Greeneville, died this morning at Laughlin Healthcare Center. Mrs. Cutshaw was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Young at Heart and Carrianna Sunday School Class. She attended as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Cutshaw was also a member of the Greene County Grandmother's Club. The family said she relished travel and participating in numerous women's organizations over the years and that nurturing her husband, children, and grandchildren was an important part of her life, which will leave lasting memories for her family and those whose lives she touched. They remember her for many, many touching acts of unselfish generosity to others; indicative of this spirit was the regular feeding of hungry "hobos" in the early years in which word of a generous household spread quickly throughout that community. The family noted that, for many years, she chauffeured her father-in-law, the late Rev. G.E. Cutshaw, in order for him to officiate at numerous funerals in the area. Mrs. Cutshaw assisted her husband, J.P. Cutshaw, and her brother, Herman Bird, at Bird and Cutshaw Trucking where she was the bookkeeper. The family said she was known by the truck drivers as "Granny" or "Boss Woman," and was loved due to her readiness to assist them and their families when a need arose. According to the family spokesperson, in earlier years, she and her husband regularly enjoyed square dancing at the numerous square dancing establishments here. They said that she and her husband, as did many others, loved to socialize over a friendly (sometimes hotly contested) game of Rook. Survivors, in addition to her husband of 73 years, include a son and daughter-in-law: Bill and Rebecca Cutshaw; six grandchildren: Cathy Cannon, Alex Cutshaw, Debbie McAmis, Cindy Schlehr, Jim "Corky" Cutshaw, and Hilary Porta; seven great-grandchildren: Stewart Cowles, Josh Cutshaw, Jantzen McAmis, Gant McAmis, Andrew Schlehr, Chloe Schlehr, and Hampton Porta; a sister: Freda Kelley; five sisters-in-law: Pansy Bird, Rena Mae Morrow, Inez Reo, Grace Shelton, and Christine Brooks; and several nieces and nephews. She was a daughter of the late Henry and Pennia Elizabeth Bowers Bird and was preceded in death by a son: Jimmy Gray Cutshaw; two sisters: Elizabeth Darnell and Gladys Price; and five brothers: Lonnie Bird, Lester Bird, Scott Bird, Kirby Bird, and Herman Bird. [Henry PhillipBird was the s/o David Bird and Elvina Levina Ann Renner, s/o Matthias Bird and Margaret "Peggy" Wilhoit, d/o *Solomon Wilhoit and his second wife, Katherine Catrina "Caty" McGee, s/o *Conrad Reuben Wilhoit and Elizabeth Broyles, s/o *Tobias Wilhoit and *Catherine Walke, etc... The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow visitation at 6 o'clock in the funeral home chapel with interment in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Rev. Hollis Marshall will officiate. Pallbearers will be Joe Babb, Gib Tweed, Mike Cannon, Rowland McAmis, Jim "Corky" Cutshaw, and Ceth Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jim Rodgers, Dr. Nathan Horner, Dr. J.R. McKinney, Dwight Myers, Lonnie Sexton, Claude Harrison, the staff of Laughlin Healthcare, and members of the Carrianna Sunday School Class. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund. --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Internet Of Salisbury, Inc.]

My grandmother, Lunda Jeanna Wilhite, was born 8/4/1892 at Ozark, Missouri. She had a brother named Tom and a niece named Hazel. Hazel Wilhite married Dr Charles Hellweg. Last known address for Hazel was on Myrtle St. in Pierce City, Missouri. Grandma Lunda had 2 sisters that I know of, Ida Belle Wilhite who married an Arnold, and Lillie, who married a Gordon and moved to Laramie, Wyoming. Do you have anything further on this Wilhite family? Any information would be appreciated.

We are looking for the family of a George WILHITE. Our ggrandfather is believed to have been married the first time in Welch, W VA and died in Philadelphia, PA. He had lots of siblings including twin brothers one named James. We know he had two wives and offspring with both. Oral history suggests he may have been a brakeman as he lost his leg in a PA Railroad yard. He would have been with his second family then. He paid for my grandfather (first family) to attend Cornell for a year. We believe after his injury he received RR benefits. He supposedly owned a coal company in Philadelphia with the sons from his second marriage. We have spotted in the census, a George Wilhite boarding with Joseph Wilhite in TN. Occupation was laborer with the Louisville & Nashville RR. In the same year, we found a name the same as our ggrandmother (Sophie Rippetoe WILHITE) as General Delivery, Harrisonburg, VA. He told my grandfather that his brother went to South America and owned a plantation that shipped wood to international markets. He did not speak of his other siblings other than there were 12-13 with twin boys. We feel these two may have been together as adults. We know very little otherwise. We feel he may have traveled anywhere during the railroad building days. It seems the name George should stand for "he who does not write home." If anyone's relatives caught a glimpse, we would sure like to find out what line we fit. We are having a Wilhite Family Reunion May 26, 2002. My Uncle (James Wilhite) will be there. He is in his mid-80's but is still very sharp and very knowledgable about this line of the Wilhite family, but doesn't know what happened to Walker and George Wilhite after they got to Oklahoma. He is very loving and eager to share what he knows. I look forward to sitting down and talking with him. I'm glad to share my findings with anyone who is interested, so I'll let you know more later.
