    2. Hi Louita, There are four Wilhite Cemeteries in White County. My fifth and sixth great grandparents are buried in the Cherry Creek Wilhite Cemetery. They are Reuben and Mary (Yeager) Wilhite and their son, Solomon Wilhite and his wife, Jeanette Rebecca Jane Sliger. It is an old cemetery. You have to go through a private farm to get there, but the owner (a Wilhite cousin) is very accommodative. I was there in 1998. There is an association in White County that needs assistance in caring for the cemetery, too. Al

    1. [WILHITE] Problems at Ancestry/Rootsweb Web Sites
    2. List Manager
    3. For the past few days, MyFamily/Ancestry/Rootsweb has been undergoing some hardware and software upgrades and modifications. This has caused some web pages to not work properly, or to not work at all. We are assured that these problems will be solved soon. In the meantime, if you experience difficulties reaching any of our web sites, particularly the Message Boards pages, it is caused by the servers at MyFamily/Ancestry/Rootsweb, and has nothing to do with your own systems or connections. One of the problems you may experience when you go to John Blankenbaker's "Germany and Austria Photo Page" is that you may not see an index at the bottom showing all the available individual village/town pages of photos. You may also notice small problems with web page elements that work with CGI, such as not seeing "This Page was Last Modified (Date & Time)", and maybe a few more such errors. And, it is impossible to upload any new web pages, or upload any changes to existing pages. Therefore, John's latest "Germanna Notes" haven't been posted, nor have the latest pages for his and Eleanor's photos from the May, 2002 trip to Germany and Austria. As soon as the server problems are corrected, I will immediately upload all pending new pages and modifications. I have ready Notes Nr. 1406 through 1409, and some changes to the Photos pages, specifically for Lambsheim and Neuenbürg. Until then, please be patient. If, after the problems are "solved", you still see glitches on any of the pages, PLEASE let me know about it. Regards, George W. Durman List Manager

The information I have (from LDS Ancestral File) lists her as Susan Catherine, b 8/4/1842, d 1/16/1916 in Calhoun, Ouachita Par., LA, buried in Old Forksville Cemetery, Calhoon. She is listed in the 1860 census as Susan C., and in 1870 as Catherine. (And I think she was probably known as Kate, because the name that came down in my family.) I have his children as: Susannah Catherine b 8/3/1842 Permelia Ann b. 8/21/1845 Mary Jane b. 1847/1848 Emily Angeline b. 12/6/1/1850 Byron Farmer b. 12/5/1852 Warren Savra b. 1/5/1855 Benjamine (Benny) b. 1857 Sarah Ophelia b. 1860 Lucian Larsh b. 12/17/1863 All of his children were born in Union Parish, LA except Sarah and Lucian who were born in Ashley, Ark. Now Absolum had a son named Lewis Philomon b. 1819. There were at least two other Lewis in the family do you have any other information on your Lewis? 3. "Absolum Wilhoite is listed on the 1820 Census of Union Parish, Louisiana. He evidently moved here about 1816, plus or minus some. He left White County, Tennesee, by building a flat boat, drifting down the Tennessee River & the Mississippi River to New Orleans, LA. There he decided to settle in Union Parish. He was towed up the Miss. River and the Ouachita River to Monroe, Louisiana. Broke up the boat and sold the lumber; went by wagon to what is known as the Wilhite settlement in Union Parish. This can be located in the northeast section of Monroe, Louisiana. There are many Wilhites there today. Absolum Wilhoite was probably born in North Carolina, at least that is what his son, Thomas Jefferson Wilhite, says on the 1880 census of Ashley County, Ark. Mr. Pipes has a deed from Absolum to his father, Jacob Wilhoit, in 1802. Absolom and Jacob Wilhoite evidently left North Carolina in about 1814 and moved first to Green County, Tennessee, as Cartwright list a grant to Jacob, but it was given in 1788 but was not taken up until 1814 or about. Evidently, Absolom moved on th White County, Tennessee, where his son Thomas Jefferson Wilhite, was born." Source: from copy of letter to Mrs. Florence Mitchell, Sparta, Tennessee from Thomas E. Pipes, 1410-16th St., Lake Clarles, LA 70601. Probably written in the mid 1960s. Note from Sharon Wilhite Powers: Thomas Pipes (Grandson of Susannah Catherine Wilhite d/o Thomas Jefferson Wilhite) was doing research in the mid 1960's. He assumed that Absolum was the son of Jacob Wilhite, now it is a general concensus among researchers that Jacob was his brother. I have not seen the 1880 census so you need to verify this information yourself. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
