For those that asked me how to turn off the HTML, so those on AOL can get the red out. Our digest mail is screaming. I am copying information I received on another mailing list. Message-Id: <[email protected]> Subject: [LEWIS-L] While We're on The Subject Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Hi folks- While we're on the subject of messages that can't be read, I would like to encourage all of you using MS OLE, Netscape Communicator or Microsoft Internet Email to check your mail settings and make sure that they are set to send plain text only. I know the next question will be why, so here goes my best explanation. If you're are using one of those programs and have your text set to HTML, you will probably never notice it, but for the other people using Eudora and Pegasus or any of the other versions of Netscape, the messages come through in HTML coding like this: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.2106.4 subscribe <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD W3 HTML//EN"> <HEAD> <META content=text/html;charset=iso-8859-1 http-equiv=Content-Type> <META content='"MSHTML 4.71.1712.3"' name=GENERATOR> </HEAD> <DIV>subscribe</DIV> It is also the cause of the colored backgrounds showing up on the AOL digests. (Several people pointed this out to me after my earlier note.)You can see why I am encouraging everyone to send only plain text since this is what the majority of mail programs can read. Below are instructions for re-configuring these mail programs to send plain text only. Thanks, Becky Reconfiguring Microsoft Internet Email Program: Open Microsoft Internet Browser; Click: "Mail" Icon; Select: "Read Mail"; Click: "Mail" along the top of the email screen; Click: "Options" Select the: "Send" tab; Go to: "Mail Sending Format"; Select: "Plain Text"; Click: "Settings" Select: "Uuencode"; Click: "OK"; Click: "Apply"; Click: "OK" ==================== Reconfiguring Microsoft Outlook Express Email Program: Open Microsoft Outlook Express; Click: "Tools" Click: "Options" Select the: "Send" tab; Go to: "Mail Sending Format"; Select: "Plain Text"; Click: "Settings" opposite "Plain Text" Select: "Uuencode"; Click: "OK"; Click: "Apply"; Click: "OK" ================ Reconfiguring Netscape Communicator Email Program: Using Netscape Communicator (Netscape 4.x), from the menu select "edit" then from that menu select "preferences." From that screen select "mail & groups" then "messages." Under '"messages properties" make sure the box "by default, send HTML message" is NOT selected.
