Hi, I do not know if the Wilcox families know that there was a batch of Wilcoxes in Westport, MA for around 200 years, but you do now. My grandmother was one off the line and very proud of the fact and of the "family farm" in Westport. The line was a branch off of the Tiverton and Little Compton, RI ones and perhaps because they were only farmers or mariners maybe just got lost? I sat down in Westport, MA town hall office from 9AM to 4PM one day in the middle of Jan 97 and looked at all marriage, birth, and death records pertaining to the Wilcoxes. Starting at a point of discussion Seabury Wilcox b. 27 Sept 1801 m .18 Jan 1835 Deborah Garrison b. abt 12 Sept 1821 Dartmouth (Westport part). Seabury was the son of Samuel Wilcox, Jr. b. 29 Oct 1770 Married to a Matilda Brightman of Dartmouth . From this point back , I used an out of print book of local Wilcoxes (I believe it was called "Daniel Wilcox of Puncatest") located in the New Bedford, Buttonwoods Park, genealogy section to locate a Samuel Wilcox b. 30 Sept 1739 m 5 Feb 1761 to Comfort Seabury b. 4 July 1739 d. 17 Feb 1840. Thus Seabury Wilcox b. 27 Sept 1801 Westport records Samuel Wilcox, Jr. b 29 Oct 1770 Westport records Samuel Wilcox b. 30 Sept 1739 wife Comfort Seabury out of print bk Jeremiah Wilcox b 14 Feb 1688 out of print bk Samuel Wilcox b. Abt 1665 died 1702 Dartmouth out of print bk Daniel Wilcox of Linconshire, Eng and Elizabeth Cooke out of print bk Can anyone verify the link between Seabury Wilcox and his grandfather and grandmother? The other question is who is the wife of Samuel Wilcox who died in 1702 in Dartmouth, MA?
