Hello Wilcox researchers! I am new to the list, and also new to researching my family history. I am working on the following WILCOX line, and I admit, I am starting to feel like I am looking for a needle in a haystack. If there is ANYONE who recognizes any of these WILCOX names or places, I would be grateful. John Wilcox (born 5 May 1850 in Wilmington, New York) married to Betsey Allen (born 6 September 1855 in Ironville, New York). John and Betsey (Allen) Wilcox had the following children: 1. Bertha Wilcox, born 28 November 18 married ??? Grogan 2. Pearl Wilcox, born 22 June1884 married Henry Sumner 3. Mary Wilcox, born 27 March 1886 married ??? Gannon 4. Allen Wilcox, born 1893 .married ? 5. Frederick Wilcox, unknown 6. John Carlton Wilcox, born 11 June 1892 married Daisy (Lewis)(Hammond), born Drayton Market, Shropshire, England 1882 They were married on 22 May, 1913 in Rutland, Vermont. I believe that all of John and Betsey (Allen) Wilcoxs children were born somewhere in Essex County in the late 1880s through the 1890s. I do know that John Wilcox, my Great,Great-Grandfather, is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, in Crown Point, New York. In the same plot area, there is also an Abner Wilcox and Edwin R.D.Wilcox and his wife, Frances. To date, I have not found any documented proof that these men are related, other than a hopeful guess. I also know that my Great-Grandmother, Daisy (Lewis,Hammond) Wilcox was born in England, moved to Canada to live with her brother, but then moved to Northern New York with a family she had lived with in Canada for a time. I do not know the name of this family though. Once in New York, she met and married an older man named William Hammond, who owned some sort of store there in Essex County. Daisy and William Hammond had a son together, named Frederick Hammond. Daisy Hammond then met John (Jack) Wilcox who worked in the store, and apparently her marriage broke up over this. Daisy and William Hammond divorced, and Daisy married John t to a family named Sheehan. Daisy and John Carlton Wilcox then moved, along with Johns sister Pearl and her husband to Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Daisy and John Wilcox had six children in Pennsylvania, one of which was my Grandfather Frank Wilcox. This is basically all I have as verifiable information on my family. According to a Great-Aunt, she remembers going to Schroon Lake, New York to visit cousins, but she can not remember any of the particulars as she was a very young girl at the time, and it was almost seventy years ago. I have heard that there is a Wilcox Pond located there. The only other solid information I have is that John Wilcox, Sr. died 7 June 1917 in Glen Falls, New York, but his body was removed to Crown Point for burial. Betsy (Allen) Wilcox died in Hudson Falls, NY. I do not know where she is buried. There are also four "mystery" notations found in a family Bible: 1. Grandma Wilcox 14 November 1897 2. Grandpa SMITH 12 November 1900 3. Grandma SMITH 21 April 1900 4. Master John Wilcox, died 31 October Automobile accident. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and I welcome any suggestions or leads to further my search. Lynnette Wilcox Burge
