My William "Red" Wilcoxsen (i.e. Wilcox, Willcockson, etc.) was nick named Red because of his red hair. Usually, red headed people are fair and not dark and ruddy (what is ruddy? -- sounds ugly). Darris: I do not know about my Kentucky William Wilcocks but his grandsons and great grandsons were dark complected with real black hair and some had quick and violent tempers. Charley F. Wilcox
