Geri, It looks like you have a lot of resources, so I will ask you and post this to the list (again). Gardner Wilcox (two of them) December 6, 1815: Gardner Wilcox and Nabby Eccleston (parents of Gardner N. Wilcox) were married in North Stonington, CT, per marriage announcement in Norwich Courier. (Also in that day's marriage announcements were Lucinda Eccleston (Nabby's sister), who married William Eccleston, and Park Woodward and who married (Persis?) Eccleston.) 1816? Griswold incorporated (Previously a part of Preston and possibly North Stonington). 1820 and 1822 censuses: Gardner Wilcox and Nabby Eccleston (daughter of Ichabod Eccleston and Ruth Geer) were living in Griswold. They don't appear in any other censuses. The 1820 census shows that they had two girls between the ages of 0-10 (Gardner wasn't born until 1825). Ruth Geer Eccleston (whose husband, Ichabod Eccleston, died in 1814) was also living in Griswold in the 1820 and 1822 censuses. 5/20/1825 Gardner Nelson Wilcox (maybe Nelson Gardner Wilcox) was born in New York (according to 1850 census and other sources). One source says he was born in Nassau, Rensselaer County, NY (other names for Nassau (named 1808; incorporated 1819): Philipstown (1806), (formed from 3 towns: Petersburg, Stephentown, Schodack), (other villages and hamlets: North/West/East Nassau, Hoag's Corner, Millers Corners, Brainerd, Alps). * Note: month and day of birth are exactly the same as Emeline's. One or the other may be incorrect. Gardner's gravestone says 5/20/1825. Emeline's is hard to read. Married 10/15/1848 Hannah Spicer, daughter of Eldredge Spicer and Lydia G. Stanton, born 4/22/1829 (age 19 - Gardner age 23). 7/19/1849 Josephine E. (Ellen?) Wilcox was born, died 10/11/1880. 1849 Gardner N. Wilcox bought land and blacksmith shop in Poquetanuck (#366A per booklet in Preston Library) previously owned by Joseph Tyler/Erastus T. Smith/Jonathan Brewster/John Harkness/Jonathan Pierce/Humphrey Avery/Walter Capron. When William G. Wilcox died in 1897, he had run the shop for 12 years and his father ran it for 38 years (per William's obituary). It was called the Stony Brook Carriage Works. 1850 Census Gardner Wilcox is living with Hannah Spicer and infant Ellen (Josephine?) Wilcox aged 10 months. 6/3/1858 Ervaett Wilcox born, died 7/8/1863. 9/16/1859 Hannah Spicer Wilcox died (age 30). 3-20-1861 Gardner N. Wilcox married Emmeline Spicer, Hannah's sister, born 5/20/1842 (age 20 - Gardner age 37), parents Eldredge Spicer and Lydia G. Stanton. 8/20/1862 William G. Wilcox was born ( parents Gardner and Emeline Wilcox). 7/8/1863 Ervaett, daughter of Hannah and Gardner died. 11/3/1864 _____ Wilcox (female) born, parents Gardner and Emmeline Wilcox 3/10/1866 Charles N. Wilcox was born and died 1/30/1867. 1866 Emeline Spicer Wilcox died (age 24), in Poquetanuck, CT. 1865 Beers map shows Blacksmith Shop and Carriage Shop, Est. owned by G. Wilcox, and on opposite side of the road further down on the water side, a house owned by G. Wilcox. Old photos and new photos of house prove that it is the first house (now green) on the left on the waterside of Route 2A as you leave Poquetanuck. A foundation may be seen that could be the sight of the blacksmith shop, but doesn't seem to match the photo we have of the blacksmith shop. 1868 Gardner N. Wilcox married Hattie E. Hall, born 9/18/1850 (age 18 - Gardner age 43), 12/17/1879 Hattie E. Hall Wilcox died (age 29) buried with infant son 5 weeks. 12/27/1883 Gardner N. Wilcox died (age 57) in Poquetanuck, CT. 5/3/1897 William G. Wilcox died (age 35). Gardner N. Wilcox had a half sister in Voluntown who married an Eccleston/Eggleston and whose grandson named Trail lived in or near Poquonock, CT about 1915 (per Frederic S. Wilcox). If anyone has any information about this line or suggestions of where to go next, I would appreciate it. I have been to CT many times to do research and plan to try the Nassau, Rensselaer, NY connection this Spring. My hunch is that this line descends from Edward Wilcox of RI. I had thought that this was the Gardner, son of Isaac Wilcox of Beekman, NY and Wilkes-Barre, PA area, who was born 1805 (no other info available), but that would have made him 10 years old when my Gardner was married in 1815 (I have proof of that now). Thanks. Marcia Richardson
