    1. [WILCOX] Re: WILCOX, Isaac 1794 USA
    2. Charley and Kathy, The copy of the handwritten family tree that was sent to my Grandmother has part of the first name cut off. Some have only the last few letters and the middle initial. There were 14 children in this family including John Wesley. The birth dates range from 1820-1847. The one that has an "h" visable at the end has a birth date of Apr. 4, 1838. Charley, this certainly sounds like the same family. This GGAunt indicates that Isaac came from KY and was separated from his family during the war of 1812 at about the age of 7. She knew him and said that he couldn't remember who his parents were. I haven't done enough research on this line yet to know if he had a brother William. I'll be happy to give the birth dates and visable letters to anyone that thinks they may connect. This GGAunt died in 1973 and the last of my GAunts died in 1987 so I don't know what else she may have sent them. I'm contacting my cousin to see if she has anything else in her mother's things and maybe there is a copy with the first names visable. 3. Charlotte: Now you have me wondering?????? Could your Isaac have been a son of William Willcocks of Nelson Co., KY.?? Wulfeck's book say Isaac was born 15 Dec. 1794 and you say his father died when Isaac was 7 years of age - that would work out (1794 + 7) to 1801. That is the year William Willcocks died in Nelson Co., KY. The location where William lived was very close to Harden Co. and since Harden was formed from Nelson - they appear first in Nelson then in Harden - didn't really move but the counties did. Your Isaac bought land in Montgomery Co., IN. (have copies of the receipts from Indiana State Archives) in 1828 - apparently near Crawfordsville - since that is the birthplace listed by Wulfeck. She also says he received a Military Land Grant in ILL - presumably near Raritan as that is where he died ?? May 1865. Wulfeck does not specify what war the military grant was from but it could have been for the War of 1812 since your Isaac would have been about 18 years old in 1812. I would suggest you ask your local library to arrange an inter-library loan of a copy of Wulfeck's book "Wilcoxson, Wilcoxen, Wilcox" published by Cemmercial Services of Waterbury, Ct 1958. There is a 6 generation history (about 5 pages) begining on page 422. This might answer some of your questions. Charley F. Wilcox
