    1. [WILCOX] Obediah Wilcox - Virginia; Rev. John Wilcox - Connecticut
    2. Margi Shindell
    3. I am new to this list - I recently have found out the my Great Grandfather - Franklin James Wilcox was born about 1831 at Wilcox Landing, on the James River between Lynchburg and Richmond. I also found out his parent's names were Obediah Willcox and Anna Eliza Webb (Franklin took one of the "L's" out of Willcox). Obediah was supposed to have owned a large plantation in Virginia. Obediah and Anna were supposed to have had 5 children. Obediah and one of his sons were supposed to have fought in the Civil War on opposite sides (so far I am unable to find any record of this). Obediah Willcox had an ancestor named Rev. John Willcox. A statue of Rev. John Willcox is supposed to be in a square in Hartford, Connecticut - I have not confirmed this... Rev. John Willcox's children went to Westerly R.I. ~ Virginia (Wilcox Landing) ~ Pennsylvania ~ and New York State. Obediah came from the Virginia branch. Franklin married twice - his first wife was Elvira Dodge - his second wife (my Great Grandmother) was Charlotte Georgianna Ballentine - daughter of George Demille Ballentine and Charlotte Everett Fisher. That is all that I know - If you have any information on this family I would sincerely appreciate you contacting me. Thank you, Margi (Wilcox) Shindell Shindell@bellsouth.net

    2. Mike Krenesky
    3. The Osborne Wilcox dictionary lists RUTH WESTCOTT as the d. of JOHN & RUTH (HUYATT/HOYT) WILCOX. It states that SAMUEL, s/JOSEPH & ANN (SHEATHER) WILCOX, married Ruth on 01 Jan 1693/6. Ruth died 16 Jan 1728/9. MAK __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! Mail Free email you can access from anywhere! http://mail.yahoo.com/

    2. Hal Bradley
    3. Donald Jacobus in his book, "History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield," has the following footnote: Ruth "Wascot" who m. (rec. at Killingworth), 1 Jan. 1696, Samuel Wilcoxson, is usually placed as dau. of John, but more likely was dau. of robert of the R.I. family, perhaps b. 1676, the year Robert was killed in K. Philip's War. Has anyone proven whose daughter Ruth was? Thank you. Hal Bradley

    1. [WILCOX] OLIVER WILCOX OF NEW YORK
    2. Janet and any one interested. I am interested in your Oliver Wilcox but I dont think I can shed any light on the situation. My Ira Wilcox b 1778- New York d 1825 23 Aug in Madrid St Lawrence New York and his father is said to be Oliver Wilcox also of New York but I dont know where at this point. I wonder if your Oliver was named after a father with the name of Oliver and my Ira could be a brother to your Oliver. Ira married Nancy Robinson 2 Sept 1809 in New York. She went to Michigan-not sure if Ira ever did since he died in New York. Their children Lydia, Alma, Almond,Thurstain,Ira Jr,Zeri(my line) ended up in Jackson Co Michigan. The naming pattern doesnt seem to reflect yours and at this point I see no possiblity of a connection but because of the time frame, the name similarity and the location I felt I should pass my info on in case in the future there is a connection. 1. [WILCOX] Wilcox, Oliver, Lucien, Mary Batavia NY
    2. I'm looking for descendants of Oliver Wilcox of Batavia NY. (1772-1831) Sources say he was married to Betsey Sprague and Luna Jones and had a child, Hester. His will lists children Jane Eliza, who married Henry Tisdale, Lavinia, and Mary. Can't find any record of what happened to Lucien or Mary. I think Lavinia is Harriet Lavinia who married John Torrence Watson and moved to Oakland, then Gratiot County Michigan, but have not been able to prove Lavinia and Harriet Lavinia are the same person. Family records say Harriet was born in Batavia in 1817. Her children include William Oliver, Jane, Mary and Sarah Lavinia, so the naming patterns are consistent with this family. In the cemetery there is a Mary who is supposed to also be a wife of Oliver. Possibly named Mary Corner, possibly related to a Richard Flemming (step Brother). The dates conflict with the marriage to Luna. Were there 2 Olivers? Family tradition says ours came from Vermont and was born in 1770, but I can find no record of such a person. The one in the will was born in 1772 and died in Batavia. Can anyone shed any lights on this mystery? Janet Jensen janetj6690@aol.com

    1. [WILCOX] Mary Maria Wilcox m. Cadman
    2. I can't remember who was looking for Mary Maria's parents, but I know you are on the list, and I think I've found them. If your Mary Maria married William Cadman on Jan 26, 1870 in Warsaw, NY, was she born about 1849? Checking some census records, there was a Beman Wilcox, 30y, wife Sally 28y bNY living in Warsaw in the 1850 census, with Francis A, 5y, bNY and Mary M. 1y, bNY. THey lived next door to Ira Wilcox 55y, bVT, wife Maria 50y, bConn, with Sylvester24y bNY. In the 1860 census, Ira has moved in with Beman, Sarah, Mary M (then 11y) and Francis, 10ym, bNY. I think Ira must've been Beman's father, and this may be the connection with your Mary Maria. Good luck (and if anyone finds Welcome Wilcox's parents, please let me know!) Vicki

    3. Hi, I have an Alfred Wilcox born in 1831 in LeRoy, Genesee County, NY. His father was also named Alfred. I have no other information on the younger Alfred, and wonder if he could be the Alfred Jr. you mention. Best wishes, Nancy Cook Painted Post, NY ncook@stny.rr.com
