Triple Cheers for Dave Wilcox from Alton, Illinois. The only thing that is more of a priority than football, is family, past and present. And that family better like football!!!!!! Scott Hendricks, Descendant of Edward Wilcox
Maggie: I have seen the place name "Wilcox Landing" but your e-mail is the first to give me a clue as to where it was. Because our William was in the Virginia Continental Regiments and because of family stories to the effect that William's wife was from southern Virginia - we are interested in any Virginia Wilcoxes. Will be on the look out for yours. Charley F. Wilcox
Don: Good to hear from you - I know all about that "Wall" you mentioned. I and some 5-6 other distant cousins have been searching for William Wilcocks parent and marriage records for at least 4 years. Will be on the look out for your Alexander. Charley F. Wilcox
DAAVVE!! Hooray!!! Way to go!! from Center Ossipee, New Hampshire

Hi, Although I don,t know whose tree Dave belongs to, I think everyone on the Wilcox Mail List should offer him congratulations as he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, yesterday, here in Canton, Ohio. We spell our ancesters name, Wilcoxen, but I'm still going to claim him as a cousin.. Bob Schwab Visit my homepage at http://pages.prodigy.net/bobo.s Which contains genealogical information on HAYS, SHOTWELL, ROBINSON, WILCOXEN and many more!!
I note considerable activity on the wilcox mailing list I am still looking for Elisha's background who arrived in Essex county prior to 1800 with a family [no wife]Family included Elisha Jr. Hezakiah Morrice James and a married daughter Sara. About the same time a Wilcox [Benjamin] arrived in Grimbsy Ontario and became a prominent citizen of the area I cannot connect the two Bob Wilcox of St. Catharines,Ontario ----- Original Message ----- From: Charley F. Robert: There were "Wilcoxens" in (at that time Morgan Co., Adams Twp., IN) in 1830. The Cemetery at Stilesville, Hendricks, Co., IN. has a section called the Wilcoxen Section. That is about all I can tell you about it. My Line is from William Wilcocks of Nelson Co., KY. and the name is spelled several different ways. Old William spelled the name "Wilcocks" on the consent forms for his daughter's marriage bonds. His son Ezra or Isreal spelled it both "Wilcocks and Willcox". Ezra's sons were enumerated in 1830 as "Willcox" however they signed their legal documents as "Wilcox". It appears that the spelling was determined by the "Clerk" documenting the event. Have a good day and I hope the tidbit at the beginning of the letter is of value to you. Charley F. Wilcox
Sharon- My line spelled their name Wilcoxen and I believe they originally came from Maryland to Ohio. One which I think was an gguncle was a large man whose name was Sam Wilcoxen. He had white hair and a white beard and all the children called him "Daddy Wilcoxen". Bob Schwab ----- Original Message ----- From: Charley F. Darris: I do not know about my Kentucky William Wilcocks but his grandsons and great grandsons were dark complected with real black hair and some had quick and violent tempers. Charley F. Wilcox
Sorry Marcia - I have not. I have spent most of the week searching www.ancestry.com databases (they are free thru July 31, 2000). Give it a try. Charley F. Wilcox wilcox@mail.dancris.com

My William "Red" Wilcoxsen (i.e. Wilcox, Willcockson, etc.) was nick named Red because of his red hair. Usually, red headed people are fair and not dark and ruddy (what is ruddy? -- sounds ugly). So, I speak because we are Kentucky, born and bred. -----Original Message----- From: SOBPatchet@aol.com <SOBPatchet@aol.com> To: WILCOX-L@rootsweb.com <WILCOX-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, July 28, 2000 5:33 PM Subject: [WILCOX] William Wilcox > Charley, it appears that the Wilcox lines in Kentucky are heavy in the >Wilcoxson lines, not the Wilcox lines. Have you ever found any Gardner Wilcox's (born 1790 through 1825 in NY, RI, or CT) in your research? Marcia Richardson
Charley, it appears that the Wilcox lines in Kentucky are heavy in the Wilcoxson lines, not the Wilcox lines. I spent a day at the national archives a few years ago, working with the War of 1812 records. One of the things I noticed is the physical description of many of the KY lines was different from the New England ones. Many dark and ruddy complexions, whereas the NE ones, descendants of the RI groups were fairer. Just a thought. Sharon
Juniejoy: Thanks for the "clues" or sources that you sent me. I will try to check them out. The William Wilcox; I am researching is the William Wilcocks who resided in Nelson County, KY from 1782 to-1801. In 1799 he made a deposition to Nelson County in which he stated he was about 55 years old - thus he was born about 1744. Since I have no better leads - I have been looking at all the William Wilcox's I can find born in 1744. The son of William Wilcox and Thankful York satisfies the criteria - so I posted a query to the board to see if someone knew who he married and if he had children. Pretty poor lead but better than nothing!!!! Thanks again for the leads. Charley F. Wilcox
Charles Carpenter: The surnames you mention DO NOT appear as descendants of my William Wilcox. William Wilcocks; resided in Nelson County, KY from 1782 to-1801.
