I've recently found information that Gardner Nelson Wilcox was born 5-20-1825 in Nassau, Rensselaer County, NY. His parents were Gardner Wilcox and Nabby (Abigail) Eccleston. They were married December 1815 in North Stonington, CT and lived in Griswold, CT in the 1820 and 1822 censuses. Gardner Nelson Wilcox owned a house and blacksmith shop in Poquetanuck, CT by 1849. I'd like to find out who were the older Gardner's parents? Does anyone have Wilcox lines in the towns of Nassau, Philipstown, Petersburgh, Stephentown, Schodack? Or the villages/hamlets of West/East/North Nassau, Hoag's Corner, Alps, Millers Corners, or Brainerd?

I have had no success in finding the father of my ancestor, James WILCOX, b. 1791 near Stillwater, NY, so I have decided to take a different approach. The following WILCOX head of households are listed in the 1790 census around the Stillwater/Saratoga NY area. One of them should be my ancestor! Does anyone have any information on any of these families so I can either eliminate them or pursue further? Wilcox, Abraham, Stillwater, 1-1-1 Wilcox, Francis, Stillwater, 3-4-5 Wilcox, John, Saratoga, 1-3-4 Wilcox, John, Stillwater, 1-4-5 Wilcox, Lemuel, Ballstown, 1-2-3 Wilcox, Martin, Halfmoon, 1-1-2 Wilcox, Roger, Stillwater, 3-2-3 Thanks for any help. Hi Janet, Below is the material I sent to you July 17th. I thought I had already sent you some information about Jehiel, so I checked my files and there it was. According to his probate papers, he did not die in Springfield, MO, but instead in Lexington, NY. Both places are in a Greene County so that may be the source of the confusion. Frank **************************************************************************** ******* Janet, In case these notes are of use to you, these are my notes to the entry for Jehiel N. Wilcox in my version of the Wilcox line. Love, Frank P.S. Sounds like a good trip; I envy you! NOTES: Located Jehiel and Susanah, with children Mortimer (18), Wm. (10), and Abigal (6), on the 1850 census for Green Co., New York. (LDS microfilm # , p. 291) Found Jehiel N. WILCOX's Probate records from Surrogate Court, Greene County. Included was his death date 10 January 1858. Also included were the names of his heirs, consisting of Susan his wife, and two minor children, William and Angelia. The will is dated 9 January 1858, the day before his death. Jehiel left his farm, 79 and 3/4 acres, to William, with William coming into full possession of the farm when he turned 21 ("subject however to the right of dower of my wife Susan Wilcox.") Also, Angelia was to be given a "living" on the premises of the farm "to be provided for by my son William Wilcox, so long as she remains single and unmarried. And in case of her marriage, I will and bequeath to her one Cow (??) and household furniture suitable to her station in life, similar to what I have given to my daughters that are married." Everything else (minus what was needed to "pay all my just debts and funeral expenses") was to go to his wife Susan, and after her death all of his personal property that remained would go to son William. Susan was also appointed by the will to be Jehiel's "sole executrix" of his will. Part of the process of "proving" the will was the court's order that an announcement of the probate of the will be published for 6 consecutive weeks (which it was, in the "Albany Atlas & Argus, the State Paper"). This announcement listed Jehiel's children: William and Angelia, minors under supervision of special guardian John R. Sylvester; Mortimer Wilcox, residing in Jewett [in Greene County]; Elizabeth Peck, wife of Lewis Peck; Catharine Peck, wife of James Peck; and Mary Ford, wife of William Ford, all residing in the county of Stevenson, state of Illinois. (NOTE: James Peck was 72 in 1892 and lived in Bolton, Florence twp, Stephenson Co., Ill. Wm. Ford was 71 that year and lived in Yellow Creek, Stephenson Co., Ill.--according to the "General Affidavit" the two men submitted as part of Mortimer's pension record--and each man attested to being married to sisters of Mortimer.) Thomas WILCOX, in Desc of Wm W, notes that "Early Erie Co., NY, should be investigated as a Jehiel Wilcox shows up there in local history. The Streeter genealogy if there is one should be consulted for possible leads." (p. 161) Jehiel N. Wilcox, age 20-29 yrs, also appears on the 1830 census for the Town of Lexington, Greene Co., NY, along with 1 female, 20-29 yrs (Susannah, apparently), and three female children, ages 0-4 yrs. An interesting point is that another Jehiel Wilcox (no middle initial), 30-39 yrs. is listed on the same page along with a female 30-39 yrs, and 2 boys 0-4 and 5-9 and 2 girls 0-4 and 5-9 yrs. (source: Green Genes, vol. 8, No. 1, 1995, p. 25) The same copy of the 1830 census, p. 7, lists Nathaniel Willcox, 60-69 yrs, and a female aged 50-59 yrs, and 3 males, one 15-19 yrs, one 20-29 yrs, and one 30-39 yrs, and two females, one 15-19 yrs and one 20-29 yrs. Next on the list is the family of Henry Willcox, with Henry aged 40-49 and his spouse aged 30-39 yrs, and 2 males aged 0-4 yrs and two females 0-4 yrs and two females 5-9 yrs. ******************************************************* At 01:36 PM 9/1/00 EDT, you wrote: >Hi does anyone know any info of Susanah, Susan or Sarah Streeter who was >married to Jehiel Wilcox.Jehiel was born Sept 26,1802 in Lexington, Greene >Co. This is a copy of an obituary that was in my Grandmothers momentos. The paper name and date were not listed. My Grandmother was the daughter of Thomas WILCOX and Isabelle (ARCHIBALD) WILCOX. Is anyone out there working on Edward G. and Mabel E (nee MURPHY) WILCOX? I don't know how they fit into the WILCOX family genealogy that I have been working on yet. OBITUARY WILCOX, Mabel E. (nee MURPHY) beloved wife of Edward G. WILCOX, daughter of Annie and the late John C. MURPHY, sisiter of Mrs, Nellie THIERY and Mrs. Julia LOCKWOOD. Hi list For several years I have been trying to find a link to our Wilcox family. I don't know how large the family is however I know the following: I am directly related to Roger Lyle Wilcox born in 1907 somewhere in Ohio maybe Akron According to his marriage certificate issued by the State of California. Roger was married to my Aunt Astrid Lindholm in Camarillo California on December 6 1930 His parents are listed as being born in West Virginia. His father name was W C Wilcox, mother was Olive Wilcox nee Nicholas, Roger lived briefly in California and then moved to, I believe New York. Any information, any information greatly appreciated. Roger Lindholm
