Kathy, I don't know about your specific names, but I do have a Wilcox/Quebec angle that I've never pursued. Simeon Wilcox (my gggg great grandfather) of Killingworth, CT, had several children, including one named Harley. In a book called "Commemorative and Biographical Record of Middlesex County, CT" - 1903 J.H. Beers Co., there is the following, referring to Simeon's children: "Harley, who adopted the teacher's profession and went to Montreal, and whom the family lost trace..." I don't know if this fits in with anything you are researching, but I've always found to be an interesting reference. My guess is that Harley was born sometime in the 1805-1815 time frame. Good Luck, Tom in CT In a message dated 10/2/00 3:31:02 PM Eastern Daylight Time, katcamp@mediaone.net writes: << In 1803, among the earliest settlers of Ascot, Quebec, were several WILCOX males. I've recently found information that Gardner Nelson Wilcox may have been born 5-20-1825 in Nassau, Rensselaer County, NY. His parents were Gardner Wilcox and Nabby (Abigail) Eccleston. They were married December 1815 in North Stonington, CT and lived in Griswold, CT in the 1820 and 1822 censuses. Gardner Nelson Wilcox owned a house and blacksmith shop in Poquetanuck, CT by 1849. The 1850 census says that he was born in New York. I'd like to find out who were the older Gardner's parents? Does anyone have Wilcox lines in the towns of Nassau, Philipstown, Petersburgh, Stephentown, Schodack? Or the villages/hamlets of West/East/North Nassau, Hoag's Corner, Alps, Millers Corners, or Brainerd? Marcia Richardson

Does anyone know anything about Franklin Wilcox - born about 1833 in New York? Thanks, Margi
Kate, have you discovered where his father came from? Kentucky? Do you have his death certificate? That should give you his parents' names. I'm trying to find information on Erastus WILCOX (son of Simeon WILCOX & Azuba TURNER). Erastus was born March 27, 1810 in Killingworth, CT. He moved to Somerset County, NJ sometime in the early 1830's. He married Mary Compton VOORHEES July 17, 1836 in Somerset County. I am looking for information on when he died, as well as further information on his children. Any help would be appreciated, Tom Smith in CT
Hi, I am researching my Wilcox line. I am currently searching for information on Gertrude Wilcox, born in 1874, possibly OH. She married George Henderson in 1894. She is my ggg grandmother so any information on her would be greatly appreciated. Email me direct at DErnhrtgrl3@aol.com. Thank you, Michelle Salisbury
In doing some recent reading on the famous UFO crash incident at Roswell, NM in July 1947, I was reminded that the first official to see the crash wreckage was George A. Wilcox, the Sheriff of Chavas County. I'm curious if any of our Wilcox researchers out there are related to Sheriff George A. Wilcox or have done any research on his ancestral line. To refresh your memory, I'll summarize the connection of George Wilcox and his family to the well publicized incident. Sometime during the first week of July 1947, a local New Mexico rancher, Mac Brazel, while riding in the morning to check his sheep after a night of intense thunderstorms, discovered a considerable amount of unusual debris. It had created a shallow gouge several hundred feet long and was scattered over a large area. Some of the debris had strange physical properties. After taking a few pieces to show his neighbors, Floyd and Loretta Proctor, Brazel drove into Roswell and contacted the Sheriff, George Wilcox. Wilcox called Roswell Army Field (AAF) and talked to Major Jesse Marcel, the Intelligence Officer. For days thereafter, the debris site was closed while the wreckage was cleared. On July 8, 1947 a press release, stating that the wreckage of a crashed disk had been discovered, was issued by the commander of the 509th Bomb Group at Roswell, Col. William Blanchard. George Wilcox's wife's name was Inez. George actually kept a carton of crash debris left by Mac Brazel but was ordered to turn it over to the military, and even his deputies were barred from the crash site. Worse yet, Wilcox and his wife Inez were told by military police that if he ever talked about the incident, his whole family would be killed. Barbara Dugger, the granddaughter of George and Inez, said her grandmother quoted military police as saying if anything was ever said about the incident in any way, "not only would we be killed but they would get the rest of the family". Years later, Inez Wilcox also confided to her granddaughter that a flying saucer had crashed near Roswell. If you want more details about the incident, several books have been written on the subject and a simple internet search for "Wilcox" and "Roswell" will bring up a multitude of informative sites. Kathy, My information is that Nelson died in infancy - from the following: From a History of Jackson County, Iowa, pg. 206 (ed. & pub date unknown - copy in file) Ebenezer Wilcox, the father of our subject was born in Montgomery County, N.Y., and was married to Miss Jael Hanchett in April 1807. He resided in his native county until 1818 then going over into Canada settled at Aylmer, in the Province of Ontario, where they lived until 1839, then set out for Iowa Territory. In the meantime during the Canadian Rebellion, Ebenezer Wilcox was cast into prison and confined there for ten months under sentence of death by hanging. His doom, however, was averted with that of many others, a pardon being granted by the Queen of England. Upon coming to Iowa, the father of our subject, settled upon a tract of wild land in Monmouth Township, where he and his family experienced all the privations and hardships of pioneer life. The mother passed away in 1845 and Mr. Wilcox died ten years later in 1855. They were the parents of nine children, the record of whom is as follows: John was born April 26, 1808, and now a veteran of eighty-one years, is still living and a resident of Maquoketa; Anna E. was born Aug. 24, 1809, became the wife of Warren Davis, and died in Canada; David H. was born Feb. 2, 1811, and is a resident of Washington, Oregon; Maria was born June 10, 1813, married Leonard Cline and lives in Aylmer, Canada; Nelson who was born July 8, 1815, died in infancy in New York State; Harmon S. was born Dec. 16, 1817, settled in Miami County, Kan., in 1860, and died there Oct. 9, 1888; Abner T. was born July 18, 1820, and residing in this county until 1888, then removed to Amite City, La.; William, our subject, ws next to the youngest born; Ebenezer, Jr., died in Canada at the age of four years. -----Original Message----- From: Kathy Campbell [mailto:katcamp@mediaone.net] Sent: Thursday, September 21, 2000 2:08 PM To: WILCOX-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WILCOX] Nelson WILCOX Does anyone know who Nelson WILCOX, b. Guys: The line of Peter Willcockse (1691-1768) of New Jersey had several descendant Wilcox's move to Ohio around 1800. Unfortunately, I have little information on them. Should any of you ever come up with a New Jersey connection please let me know. Laird Wilcox
Hi Brian, Your information sounds so much like mine that I can't help but think they might possibly be connected somehow. My illusive WILCOX is my ggrandfather, John Dennis WILCOX. He was born about 1819 (don't know where). He married Elisabeth S. ROCKWELL in Lorain Co., OH in 1852. They had four children: Marion Reiley "Minnie" ( the Reiley could be a clue to a family name), Sallie Maria (b. Knox Co., IN), Helen Virginia - my gmother (b. Parke Co., IN) and Harry S. (b. near Evansville, IN). John Dennis died in Vincennes, Knox Co., IN in 1869, and the family migrated to Kalamazoo Co., MI. Could my John Dennis WILCOX possibly be a brother to your Abel WILCOX? Tom Miller Vicksburg, MI
Am looking for information on ABEL WILCOX, born in Ohio (possibly Portage County) in December 1817, died in Indiana in 1864. He migrated to Michigan and married Nancy Ann McLain there in 1837. They had five children: Orlando (my ggf), Abraham (murdered in LA in 1901), Christopher, Olive and Lester. This has been a hard family to trace - they didn't leave many records to find! All hints and suggestions gladly received! Brent Wilcox Spokane, WA
