    1. [WILCOX] Re: WILCOX, Isaac 1794 USA
    2. Charley, This certainly sounds like the same Isaac as that is the birthdate that my GGAunt had written down for her grandfather. She states in her letter that she couldn't trace back any farther because her grandfather didn't remember his parents or know anything about them. I definitely will get my hands on that book and maybe open some new doors. My cousin is out of town so I'll have to wait to see if she has anything in her mother's papers. Thanks for all the help listmates. << Now you have me wondering?????? Could your Isaac have been a son of William Willcocks of Nelson Co., KY.?? Wulfeck's book say Isaac was born 15 Dec. 1794 and you say his father died when Isaac was 7 years of age - that would work out (1794 + 7) to 1801. That is the year William Willcocks died in Nelson Co., KY. >>

    1. Re: [WILCOX] Re: WILCOX, Isaac 1794 USA
    2. Hi Charley, Thanks for the Wilcox info. On the 1850 census, old Abe said he was b in PA but if you look at a map of the country for that era, I think it would be difficult to tell what was VA, PA, MD or maybe even OH. His gdau said she thought Abe was b in KY. I don't think any white baby's were born in KY before 1777. There's an Isaac Wilcox who m in N.C. 1773. Five of the first names in this family are the same as five names in Abe's family. Also this Isaac and his wife came from PA. Maybe just coincidence. 3. Bill in Sunny Phoenix: The family names you mention are also found in William Willcocks descendants. He had son William, Isreal aka EZRA and Zerah. Ezra had sons William, Charles, John, Hardin, Isaac and Thomas. Isaac had sons James, William, Samuel, Richard and Isaac. William Willcocks was born 1744/45 per a 1799 Nelson Co. Court Deposition from William where in he stated he was about 55. His son Ezra was married 15 Apr 1794. Abraham was apparently about Ezra's age. It is intriguing that they all lived so close to each other - this often suggest a family tie. Charley F. Wilcox From Sunny Mesa, AZ.

    2. This sentence makes me wonder: >This GGAunt indicates that Isaac came from KY and was >separated from his family during the war of 1812 at about the age of 7. Abraham Wilcox m Mary Polly Turner in Mercer Co., KY 1795. Polly was given in marriage by members of the Boucher family which might indicate she had been previously married. Based on later census, it looks like Abraham was b 1773 so he was 22 years old. Abraham and Polly moved to Muhlenberg Co., KY. They appear on the 1810 census with several children. A Muhlenberg court record indicates that Polly sold all the pots and pans. It sure looks like the marriage broke up and she was getting ready to travel light. Abraham enlisted in the war of 1812 in Scott Co., KY. It appears that he didn't go back to Polly and the kids after the war. I never did find out what these kids of the first marriage were named or where they went but they were probably b between 1796 - 1812. Abe went to MO and remarried by 1819 (probably ca 1813). He named the male ch of his 2'nd marriage: Isaac b1821, John b 1828, and William b 1837. 3. Charlotte: Now you have me wondering?????? Could your Isaac have been a son of William Willcocks of Nelson Co., KY.?? Wulfeck's book say Isaac was born 15 Dec. 1794 and you say his father died when Isaac was 7 years of age - that would work out (1794 + 7) to 1801. That is the year William Willcocks died in Nelson Co., KY. The location where William lived was very close to Harden Co. and since Harden was formed from Nelson - they appear first in Nelson then in Harden - didn't really move but the counties did. Your Isaac bought land in Montgomery Co., IN. (have copies of the receipts from Indiana State Archives) in 1828 - apparently near Crawfordsville - since that is the birthplace listed by Wulfeck. She also says he received a Military Land Grant in ILL - presumably near Raritan as that is where he died ?? May 1865. Wulfeck does not specify what war the military grant was from but it could have been for the War of 1812 since your Isaac would have been about 18 years old in 1812. I would suggest you ask your local library to arrange an inter-library loan of a copy of Wulfeck's book "Wilcoxson, Wilcoxen, Wilcox" published by Cemmercial Services of Waterbury, Ct 1958. There is a 6 generation history (about 5 pages) begining on page 422. This might answer some of your questions. Charley F. Wilcox
