    1. HEGSTAD, Martha (WILCOX) obituary
    2. Ruth Davison
    3. LOS ANGELES TIMES, Sunday, May 25, 1997: HEGSTAD, Martha W., was born June 26, 1912 in Charleston, Rhode Island, the second of three daughters, to Coast Guard District Commander Howard P. Wilcox and his wife, Anne Peckham Wilcox. She attended both Union Springs Academy and Pine Tree Academy, then enrolled in Walla Walla College. She graduated from Walla Walla College in May 1937, and was married that August in Wakefield, Rhode Island, to fellow Walla Walla alumni and lay evangelist, Sivert John Hegstad, of Slayton, Minnesota. She began what would be a five decade career in education at Gem State Academy in 1934. The Hegstads followed the newly retired Wilcoxes to the Los Angeles area in the late 1940s. They settled first in Pomona, California, then Glendale, dividing their time between the Los Angeles area, and, in summers, northern Idaho. Both Hegstads taught in many Adventist and other grade schools throughout the western United States, including Gem State Academy, Coeur d'Alene Elementery, Spokane Junior High, Pomona Elementary, and Glendale Adventist Academy, where Martha taught grade school for over three decades. She retired from full time work in 1984, but continued on a GAA as a teacher's aide and substitute until 1988. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Sivert in April 1973, and by her younger sister Ruth Blackman in January 1990. She is survived by her eldest sister, Marion Hohensee of Paradise, California; and by nieces, Perrie Cobb of Oroville, California, and Delight Blackman of Los Angeles, California; grandniece Jennie Stark of Missouri; and grandnephew, Montgomery Cobb of Portland, Oregon; and a great-grandniece Christi Thuemler of Mill Valley, California. 2. Hi, I am new to this list and am hoping a distant relative can help me with my problem. I have traced my grandmothers's relatives (Wilcox) through original records in Westport, MA to a Seabury Wilcox b. 27 Sept 1801. Seabury was the son of Samuel Wilcox, Jr. and Matilda Brightman of Dartmouth, MA (close by) . When I complete this link I have a bulls-eye right back to Daniel Wilcox b. 4 Mar 1632/33 in Lincolnshire, Eng. married to Elizabeth Cooke b. 6 Dec 1715. Daughter of John Cooke and Sarah Warren. Does anyone have any information on the children of Samuel Wilcox and Comfort Seabury. The Wilcox book I have on this lineage (long out of print) does not include anyone without total documentation. 1. Pearl Carrie Wilcox
    2. Teren D Robbins
    3. Hello everyone, I am looking for information on the parents of Pearl Carrie Wilcox, my great-grandmother. Here's the information I have: She was born March 1, 1870 in Camp Point, Adams County, Illinois. She married Harry Frank Cheney (my great-grandfather) on January 17, 1895 at the Ninth Street Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. She had three sons and a daughter (my grandmother) and died on February 24, 1959, in Salem, Oregon. Those are the facts. Here are the rumors: Her father made horse-drawn carriages and was one of triplets named Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (like in the Bible). He was Meshach Wilcox, and both he and his two brothers (who also "lived to be men") went by nicknames. Unfortunately, I don't know what that nickname was. If this sounds familiar to anyone, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. In return, I would be more than happy to help anyone interested in establishing contact with Pearl Wilcox's descendants here in Oregon. We know virtually nothing about our Wilcox ancestors and I would like to change that. Thank you for your time, Teren D. 1. WILCOX - STURGIS Marriages
    2. Catherine H. Lippert
    3. In my database I have information on the marriage of Jerusha "Juty" WILCOX and Gen. Samuel Davis STURGIS who were married in 1850. I know about Juty's parents and siblings and am happy to share that information with anyone interested. I'd like more information on this couple's descendants. Also in my database is Benjamin STURGIS who married Effie WILCOX. I don't have any dates or any more information about this couple, however I know that Effie isn't a sibling of Juty. Benjamin and Effie's daughter Florence Wilcox STURGIS (b 1891) married Willard Fiske LOCKRIDGE (b 1890), and I do have information on their descendants. Again, I'm willing to share what I have and would like more. Does anyone know if these STURGIS men are related? or if their wives are related? Cathy Lippert [email protected]

    2. In a message dated 97-06-29 12:11:06 EDT, you write: << Orlando Wilcox b. 11/8/1795 was the son of John, known as "Captain John" and his first wife Margaret Kelsey. Orlando m. 1st. Sydna Fitz Randolph, m. 2nd. Charlotte Lee. I'm afraid there are no children listed for them in the book "A Preliminary Report on the Descendants of William Wilcoxson". That seems to be my findings when it comes to looking for any information on my Orlando. I still think the possibility of him being the son of Orlando WILCOX is a possibility but without any proof it will be hard to find. I am going to order the Killingworth and Guilford Vital Records and pore over them again. I know that he is not in the IGI even though there are about six or seven Orlando WILCOXes in there. My Orlando gave his birth place as Connecticut on two census' and Canada on another (I think that the Census enumerator may have transcribed this wrong). Thanks for the information on the WILCOX family. I was hoping that by getting his death record, I would find his parents' names listed but the town in New York that he lived in did not keep records before 1890, and a lot of their earlier records that they did have were destroyed by fire (or so they said). Thanks again. Kathy.

    3. Hi Kathy, Orlando Wilcox b. "Captain John" d. 7/8/1812 and is buried in Clinton cemetery between his two wives. He lived most of his life at Killingworth - present town of Clinton. He owned and operated a small coast-wise vessel out of that seaport. This was how he acquired the title of "Captain". He was a revolutionary soldier having served in the Connecticutt forces. John was the son of John b. 8/17/1726, East Guilford, Conn and Grace North Griswold (d/o Daniel Griswold). They had 7 children. John was the s/o John Wilcox b. 11/9/1692 at East Guilford, Conn. and Deborah Parmalee. He died 4/20/1756 and Deborah d. 1/10/1792 in her 99th year. Both are buried at Madison, Conn. They had 6 children. Ruth ----- I recently received some information on the family of John and Margaret (KELSEY) WILCOX from East Guilford, CT and was wondering if anyone could help me with extending their line. They had a son named Orlando, who was b. 08 Apr. 1795, and who m. Charlotte LEE. Does anyone know if Orlando and Charlotte (LEE) WILCOX had children, and if so, who they were? I am looking for information on my great-great-grandfather whose name also was Orlando WILCOX and was curious as to whether he might be the son of Orlando and Charlotte. The time frame fits as my Orlando was b. 04 Jul. 1805 (according to his cemetery stone which I believe is wrong) or 04 Jul. 1815 (I'm leaning very heavily towards the 1815, as Orlando in three different census' said that he was born in 1815. It would seem that he would know how old he was and to report his age as that in three different census' almost would verify that fact). I hope someone out there can help me. Thanks.
