See, here's where one problem is, everything I've read links the two older boys, Daniel & Samuel, sons of Daniel(2) Wilcox b. 1632/33, to Daniel(2)'s unknown 1st wife. (I'm using the 2 here because we've got Daniel>Edward>Daniel). References: Mayflower Families in Progress, Francis Cooke of the Mayflower and His Descendents for 4 Generations, p. 9; and NEHGR Vol. 147 pp 188-191, specifically 191. So you've got Daniel(2)>Samuel>Jeremiah>Samuel m. Comfort SEABURY>Samuel Jr.>Seabury. If that's the line, I need to gracefully bow out, because I only have Jeremiah m. Mary COLLINS and then my information on that line stops. But I'd still like to know who January WILCOX is! Is this another case of cousins marrying cousins? My husband (he's the WILCOX) is his own 9th cousin! I swear I'm going to start a One Name Study, just to keep straight which WILCOX line married into which! We've got the RI WILCOXes, the CT WILCOXes, (not apparently related) and I just got some information on a John WILCOX as one of the "Puritan Immigrants" in MA. Which just complicates matters more! Is he related? Where did he come from? Does this mean the MA WILCOXes *aren't* related to the RI WILCOXes? I'll be watching for the answers! You wrote: Jerusha WILCOX, dau. of Simon Gates WILCOX and Hannah LOOMIS. I have no further info on Jerusha, but Simon was b. abt 1811, in Oxford, NY, and d. 2 Feb 1883 in Great Bend, PA. Hannah was b. 7 Aug 1813, and d. 11 Nov 1866 in Harford NY. Simon Gates is the son of Harrington WILCOX and Charity RATHBURN. The family had relatives back in RI & CT, so maybe? Anybody else? Looks like Seventh Day Baptist lines to me. The Loomis and Gates groups settled around Brookfield, Madison Co, NY due to the church which also had offshoots in Leonardsville and Unadilla Forks, NY. The Rathbun line was also SDB. Oxford, Chenango Co, NY is another SDB town. According to history books, many families in these areas came from around Stonnington, CT, and another group from RI, where the SDB church originated. There was also Jerusha Almira Wilcox b 29 Feb 1864, dau of Isiah Clark Wilcox who was born in Humphrey, Cattarugus Co, NY and died in Spring Creek, PA. She married William Pierce and died 9 Aug 1941. There was Jerusha Wilcox b Dec 7, 1827 in Hartford, CT, daughter of Jeremiah Cullen Wilcox of E. Hartford, CT who died in Ohio and Julia Ann Wilder. I believe this is the line of Nathan Wilcox and Rebecca Moon. I don't know what the question was, so I don't know if this helps or not. If anything has information on Nathan Wilcox and Rebecca Moon, please contact me. Someone sent me information that this is a descendant line of Edward Wilcox. I am concerned that someone may have mixed up all those Nathans and Elnathans and this is really a Willcoxen line. Please help me verify. Sharon Patchett
Hi, I do not know if the Wilcox families know that there was a batch of Wilcoxes in Westport, MA for around 200 years, but you do now. My grandmother was one off the line and very proud of the fact and of the "family farm" in Westport. The line was a branch off of the Tiverton and Little Compton, RI ones and perhaps because they were only farmers or mariners maybe just got lost? I sat down in Westport, MA town hall office from 9AM to 4PM one day in the middle of Jan 97 and looked at all marriage, birth, and death records pertaining to the Wilcoxes. Starting at a point of discussion Seabury Wilcox b. 27 Sept 1801 m .18 Jan 1835 Deborah Garrison b. abt 12 Sept 1821 Dartmouth (Westport part). Seabury was the son of Samuel Wilcox, Jr. b. 29 Oct 1770 Married to a Matilda Brightman of Dartmouth . From this point back , I used an out of print book of local Wilcoxes (I believe it was called "Daniel Wilcox of Puncatest") located in the New Bedford, Buttonwoods Park, genealogy section to locate a Samuel Wilcox b. 30 Sept 1739 m 5 Feb 1761 to Comfort Seabury b. 4 July 1739 d. 17 Feb 1840. Thus Seabury Wilcox b. 27 Sept 1801 Westport records Samuel Wilcox, Jr. b 29 Oct 1770 Westport records Samuel Wilcox b. 30 Sept 1739 wife Comfort Seabury out of print bk Jeremiah Wilcox b 14 Feb 1688 out of print bk Samuel Wilcox b. Abt 1665 died 1702 Dartmouth out of print bk Daniel Wilcox of Linconshire, Eng and Elizabeth Cooke out of print bk Can anyone verify the link between Seabury Wilcox and his grandfather and grandmother? The other question is who is the wife of Samuel Wilcox who died in 1702 in Dartmouth, MA?

Hi Rooters!! I have a relative that has an interesting name; Susan Lorena Montgomery WILCOXEN. What a mouthful, eh? Born Mar 1840 in Missouri, probably Moniteau County, but not proven. Married to Jesse William HICKMAN. Would like to talk to anyone that might have her, or other possibles in their lines. Thanks in advance, Bob Vaughan, Clovis, CA

Wait, wait wait! Which Stephen had a first wife? Is January Wilcox related? If so, how? And how did we get Samuel married to Comfort SEABURY? What I've got is: Stephen WILCOX, b.1/10/1707/08 Dartmouth, Bristol, MA, m. 1/27/1729/30 Mary THOMAS. Stephen died 1778. Children: Martha Wilcox b. Abt 1731 Phoebe Wilcox b. 1736-1740 Tyler Wilcox b. 1741 Micajah Wilcox b. 1743 Stephen Wilcox b. ? William Wilcox b. January 06, 1751/52 Mary Wilcox b. ? Then I've got: Stephen WILCOX, b.5/28/1707 in Dartmouth, Bristol, MA, m. 7/10/1731 Mary RICKETSON, who had the children you describe. This Stephen also died in 1778. (Hmmm) But I've got Stephen's son Samuel married to Elizabeth GODDARD, and I don't have a Samuel Jr in that line. The first Stephen mentioned is the son of Stephen WILCOX (b. abt 1668 in Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA) and Susanna BRIGGS. Stephen is the son of Daniel WILCOX (b. 3/4/1632/33) by Elizabeth COOKE. The second Stephen mentioned is the son of Daniel WILCOX (b. 1680 Dartmouth, Bristol Co., MA) and Sarah Unk. Daniel is the son of Daniel WILCOX (b. 1656 in Portsmouth, RI) and Hannah COOK, who is Daniel WILCOX's (b. 3/4/1632/33) son by his unknown first wife, before he married Elizabeth COOKE. These 2 Stephens would be half 1st cousins once removed. Unless Hannah COOK (dau. of John COOK and Sarah Unk.) is indeed related to Elizabeth COOKE also, in which case the relationship gets *more* complicated. Anyway, I've got a Stephen having the children you describe, but he's not the Stephen who married Mary THOMAS (1st *OR* 2nd). And, according to my info, his son Samuel didn't marry Comfort SEABURY, or have a son Samuel. So, which one was married to January WILCOX, where does *she* fit in, what happened to Mary RICKETSON and where does Comfort SEABURY come in? Either way, we get back to Edward, but *I'm* all confused now! ;-) Marsha Wilcox [email protected] Home Page -- http://www.mall.lnd.com My Genealogy Page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/1616/ USGenWeb County Coordinator for: Lake Co., IL -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~illake/ Oconto Co., WI -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/ Shawano Co., WI -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~wishawan/ [email protected] wrote: >[email protected] wrote > >> I have traced my grandmothers's relatives (Wilcox) through original records >> in Westport, MA to a Seabury Wilcox b. 27 Sept 1801. The HIRAM WILCOX I am looking for lived in Cherokee Co. AL and died there in 1882. He was born in Blount Co. Tennessee in 1806- -Do any of you have a Wilcox family that lived in Blount Co. TN. during 1800-1820's??? He married MARY ANN SMITH in Washington Co. Tennessee in 1828. They had 7 children- James--Ivin--George. Ann Eliza--William L. --Abel T,--and Sarah Jane b 1831 in TN. Sarah Jane Wilcox married John D. Love and Ann Eliza Wilcox married Joseph M Carlisle. Do any of you have grandpas named James Wilcox--Ivin Wilcox--George Wilcox- -Abel T. Wilcox???? It would be a good day for me if I could find a cousin. Mary Russell [email protected]
-- Sylvia, I have 2 Jerusha WILCOXes in my database, only one seems vaguely *possible.* Jerusha WILCOX, dau. of Simon Gates WILCOX and Hannah LOOMIS. I know replying privately keeps mail-list traffic down, but it also keeps information *off* the list, as well as not helping others correct erroneous info. I, for one, need all the help I can get, just trying to keep the different WILCOX lines straight, and all the WILCOXes who married WILCOXes..... And some of my info has been handed down by a now-dead "cousin." I have *no* idea what her references were, except that everybody else has the same info, which means either we're *all* wrong, or her info is right on target. Not that we should get arguments going on the list, but this is supposed to be for *discussion.* Can we talk? ;-) Marsha Wilcox [email protected] Home Page -- http://www.mall.lnd.com My Genealogy Page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/1616/ USGenWeb County Coordinator for: Lake Co., IL -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~illake/ Oconto Co., WI -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/ Shawano Co., WI -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~wishawan/ [email protected] wrote: > > Hi all! > > I'm new to the list so I thought I'd jump right in... > > Seeking information on Jerusha WILCOX, m James H Taylor. Hi all! I'm new to the list so I thought I'd jump right in... Seeking information on Jerusha WILCOX, m James H Taylor. One known child - Albert James TAYLOR b abt 1875 in Winchester, Connecticut, d 1918 Worcester, Massachusetts. No other info known. I'd appreciate any information on Jerusha WILCOX - I have been at a standstill in this line for years. Albert TAYLOR was my father's natural father who died when my dad was only a few month's old and then dad was adopted by my grandmother's second husband. My grandmother told dad nothing of his natural father's family so I have only James Taylor's marriage record to go on, this is where I found his mother's maiden name of WILCOX. Thanks in advance for your help! Sylvia WIlson Bridport, Vermont [email protected]
