I have a photo I took here in Barren Co. Ky. It is the stone of Isaac Wilcoxson born Aug 7, 1796 died Sep 27, 1848 and his wife Nancy born May 22, 1805? died Dec 16 1874. The nearby church is Three Springs. I will be happy to share this photo if any of you are of this line. The cemetery is in extremely bad shape and I doubt if it will be there in another 10 years. > Mary Russell [email protected] Glasgow Kentucky
We are tracking two different Isaiah Wilcoxson's. I am looking at Isaiah b. 1796 in N.C.. He is a grandson of John Wilcoxson and Sarah Boone. Sarah is a sister to Daniel Boone. If I find any of this group I will let you know. I am looking for Aaron Wilcoxson. He would have been born in the late 1700's. He had a son by the name of James Franklin Wilcox(son) who was my g-g grandfather. If you should run accross anything on him, I would appreciate knowing. Don Wilcox
Hello, Isaiah WILCOXON b Nov 5, 1818 in Portsmouth, Scioto County, OH was the son of George Dent Hardy WILCOXON b Jun 8, 1788 in Broad River, SC and Anna HOSKINSON b Jan 14, 1792 in Bull Run, VA. (Anna was the daughter of Josiah HOSKINSON - a Revolutionary War veteran and Margaret SUMMERS). Isaiah married Jul 31, 1842 in Buffalo Grove, Ogle Co., IL Clarissa Ursula KELLOGG b Aug 15, 1824 in Jefferson County, NY. Isaiah and Clarissa had 5 children: Sarah Ann m Jacob BRUBAKER, Jr. George Ingalls m Sarah Alice FOOTE (our line) Joseph Kellogg d young Emeline Clarissa Nancy Elizabeth m Samuel Cephas POSTHEWAIT. Isaiah had a brother, Thomas D. H. WILCOXON. The migration of the WILCOXON family was from Broad River, SC to Washington Township/Portsmouth, Scioto County, OH to Polo/Buffalo Grove, Ogle Co., IL to Belle Plaine, Benton Co., IA and Tama Co., IA to St. Croix Co., WI, to Cheyenne, WY to Denver, CO. I am stuck on the parents of George Dent Hardy WILCOXON. In the family tradition, the sons are given the middle name of a surname of an ancestor. George Ingalls was named after his maternal grandmother's maiden name. My father-in-law was named after his mother's maiden name. This leads me to believe that DENT and HARDY are surnames of ancestors. I have information that the family is also related to CALVERT. Any help would be appreciated. Hello again everyone of the Wilcox listserve, I am taking part in a scavenger hunt for another piece of information... I believe Isaac Wilcoxson(born 1780 in KY, died in 1847, son of David and Kezia), probably married Sina (maiden name possibly Wood, born in NC in about 1793, died in AR). I have found that there were many Woods and quite a few Wilcoxsons in the Wilkes County NC area around 1750. I am just wondering if anyone has a record of a Wood marrying a Wilcoxson in either NC, KY, or TN. I know it may sound as if I'm searching for needles in a bookstack, and that is very close to the truth. I need to verify the marriage of Isaac to Sina, in order to verify that Samuel Willcoxon (born in TN on July 30 1817, died 1887 Marble Falls, Boone County, AR) was indeed there son. This puzzle piece seems to be the key to my family tree. Once again, thank you all for taking the time to read my message, Brett
Just found this URL for a transcription of the 1880 U.S. Federal Census New York Juvenile Asylum, New York, NY, from which many orphans were shipped throughout the country to new homes. http://www.outfitters.com/~isgs/1880nyja-n.html I found 2 boys named ASHLEY from MD, and 1 from NY. Not my line (as far as I know). No WILCOXes that I could see, but who knows which elusive ancestor you might find? Happy Hunting! I thought you should have this message from Brian Leverich. Ruth --- As you probably know, load on RootsWeb has been skyrocketing. The lists.rootsweb.com server now handles about 50% of the load of the biggest listserver on Earth (plum.lsoft.com), and the www.rootsweb.com server now handles about 20-40% of the load of www.microsoft.com (and they use 15 servers (-8 ). One problem we're having is that the Linux operating system just doesn't seem to be able to handle this load gracefully. We've been having multiple system crashes each day, and it's basically preventing us from doing other things we want to do (like get search engines up and Web interfaces to your message archives). Anyway, the solution seems to be shifting to a different version of Unix -- FreeBSD -- which is generally regarded as much more stable under load than Linux. FreeBSD is used by a number of very large sites, including Yahoo and ftp.cdrom.com (the world's busiest FTP site). We'll be converting lists.rootsweb.com and www.rootsweb.com to FreeBSD over the next few days. You can expect some down time and probably some annoying glitches as we make the transition. Please bear with us -- I think we'll have the moves completed in the next few days, and I'm guessing that we'll be fully back to normal (including achieving our old 98%+ uptime performance) within two weeks. I have made a change to this list as to how messages will be posted. Because other lists have been "Found" and "spammed" by some unscrupulous members of the Internet and Genealogy community I have been forced to have RootsWeb restrict posting to this list. Effective immediately only subscribed members of the list may send a message to the list address. I want to protect members of the list from "spammers" so I am having to take this step. Sorry for the change, I hope it doesn't seriously affect list members. Have a great day. Ruth
This morning, 6 Aug '97, I lost about 20 messages. If you sent me mail 5 or 6 Aug and I don't reply in a couple of days, please resend it. Thank you Norma Nyberg in Columbia, MO [email protected]
Hello all of the Wilcox listserve, I am in quite a spot (as usual) with my genealogical research. This is what I know: John Wilcoxson and Sarah Boone had several children. One of these children was David Wilcox(son), born Oct, 22, 1742, Berks Co. PA. David's family moved to North Carolina around 1750. From there David travelled with his brother Daniel Wilcoxson to Kentucky to meet up with Daniel Boone. With the exception of questionable immediate family listings, at this point, records on David fade into thin air. This is what I know about David's immediate family(from various sources): David Wilcox(son)(born 1742 in Berks Co. PA, died Maury Co. TN in 1834) wife: Kezia(maiden name unknown) Children: Isaac (born 1780 in Fayette Co. KY), married Sarah (possibly Sinah) Aaron (born 1789) David Jr. (born 1796) Jesse (born 1798) Hannah (born 1799) I desparately need more info. on David and one of his children. I believe I am descended of his son Isaac, but I need proof. I need to know if Isaac married Sinah (possibly born in NC, maiden name unknown, may be Wood), and had a son Samuel Willcoxon (born July 30 1817 TN, died Aug. 2 1887, Marble Falls Boone Co. AR). I have flawlessly traced my lineage back to Samuel, and have guessed David's son Isaac as the next link in my chain, but I am not sure.Knowing the answer to this question would relieve much genealogical anxiety. Any information anyone could offer concerning Isaac, Samuel, or the marriage of Isaac and Sarah(maybe Sinah) would be VERY much appreciated. Thank you all for taking the time to read my message, Brett
This was sent to another list and I thought you would enjoy it as much as I did. Please excuse this brief moment of humor about genealogy. But, I thought everyone doing genealogy research has felt this way at some point. > > > Poem on Starting > > I started out calmly tracing my tree, > to find if I could, the making of me, > and all that I had was a great grandfather's name, > not knowing his wife or from whence he came. > I chased him across a long line of states > and came up with pages and pages of dates. > When all put together, it made me forlorn, > I proved that poor grandpa had never been born. > One day I was sure the truth I had found. > Determined to turn this whole thing upside down. > I looked up the record of one uncle John, > but then found the old man was younger than his son. > Then when my hopes were fast growing dim, > I came across records that must have been him. > The facts I collected made me quite sad. > Dear old grandfather was never a dad. > I think maybe someone is pulling my leg. > I'm not at all sure I wasn't hatched from an egg. > After hundreds of dollars I've spent on my tree > I can't help wonder if I'm really me. > -Anonymous > > Quoted from The Family Tree News from The Ellen Payne Odom Genealogy > Library, Moultrie, GA, > published free bi-monthly, August 1992. > > <---- End Forwarded Message ----> >
