I'm looking for the ancestors of a John Steward II Wilcox born in Noth East, PA near Erie, PA. I don't know anything about John Steward Wilcox I. He was born in 1899 at North East. He died young of TB in 1932 also in North East, PA. If you have any information on any Wilcox in Pennsylvania or in the Buffalo, NY area please tell me. Hey, count me in too if you have a connection. My great great great grandfather, John Wilcox left one son behind before he went west. I know another son's name was Steward, who died in Ohio before 1900. I lost a bunch of cousins and other siblings. I thought the spelling of the first name is Stuart or Stewart and don't know if there is any significance with using a D instead.

You wrote I'm searching for the Wilcox's of Connecticut. I've got three immigrants, and it is believed that they are brothers. John, and William (both of Connecticut) and Edward of Rhode Island. I trace off all three lines, but am descended from William. The "brothers" were all born in England between 1595-1605. Where pray tell? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated on the lines of these three men. Genealogists have been trying to connect those lines together without much luck. Recently located church records from Lincolnshire, England shows others children of Edward, with names not discernable due to age. I'd be happy if someone could find out what happened to John, brother of Stephen and Daniel. I have a discovered the second obit from the late 1880s and early 1900s that tells the family tradition that the Wilcox line (Edward's of RI) descends from three brothers, sailors, and the sons of a vice admiral in the English navy who came here in 1635. It also says that five brothers of a latter generation served in the Revolutionary War. So, any more information on this folks?

Cyndi, Edward's lineage is detailed in NEHGR Vol. 147, pp 188-191. Your local genealogical library should have it. If not, give me a shout & I'll get you a copy. Edward, s/o Daniel Wilcox & Isabell/Esabell ???, had 1 brother named John, who died at about 3 mos old, and no brother named William. John Willcoxson of CT is no proven relation to Edward Wilcox of RI. William of CT, is, I believe, related to John, but I may have that wrong, since it's not my line. Some of us are toying with the idea that they may be related farther back in England. Edward Wilcox is my husband's 8th-gr-grandfather. He is descended from him thru his son Stephen. Check my genealogy page for more info. I have more than is up there, but that'll give you some info. Be sure to check the "notes", that's where I stash my references. Happy Hunting! Thought I should pass this on to my lists. Ruth ------- RootsWeb has *no* "main sponsoring org". No university, no government agency, no gensoc, no business, nobody but *you*. We are *entirely* supported by voluntary contributions. Our hardware and bandwidth budget for the last year was in the neighborhood of $60,000, of which about two-thirds were individual contributions and the rest came out of Karen and Brian's pockets. Apple Computer also donated a server to RootsWeb, which augments the other 4 main servers we've bought. Karen and I have also donated our time as system administrators, as did the other RootsWeb folks. Next year's costs will be well over $100,000 and possibly as high as $200,000, depending on whether we have the resources to start buying datasets and uploading them for everyone to freely use. RootsWeb wouldn't have happened without the support of the Internet genealogical community, and we need continued support if we're going to keep expanding the services that are available to the community. Thanks to everyone who is helping us make this happen! -B [ BTW, please feel free to redistribute this to your lists. It worries me that folks don't realize that their contributions are are the *only* thing that keeps RootsWeb alive. ] -- Dr. Brian Leverich Co-moderator, soc.genealogy.methods/GENMTD-L RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative http://www.rootsweb.com/ P.O. Hello all, I accidentally sent a reply regarding Diana's death to the wrong listserve. I apologize for the very foolish mistake. Brett

This is copied from a book I own: "All WILCOXs of early New England ancestry derive, so far as we are now aware, from three immigrants, namely, William WILCOXSON, who settled at Stratford, CT. (See: "Descendants of William WILCOXSON" by Thomas Wilcox) John WILCOX, who settled at Hartford, CT. (See: "Middletown Upper Houses", {a CT history} Edward WILCOX, who settled at Aquidneck, RI. (See: Wilcox-Brown-Medberry Genealogy", by William Alonzo Wilcox in 1902. Also: "Central New York, Vol. 3, pg 1435.) If your lineage is from the Stratford WILCOXSON, that means we are cousins! Hi, Cuz Ann (pronounced 'cousin'!) This is copied from the book "Descendants of William Wilcoxson", by Thomas Wilcox. I am seeking the maiden name of the wife of Giles Wilcox. Giles was born in Onondaga Co., NY in 1781. His wife is listed just as Dinah. She was the mother of Thomas Newell Wilcox born Sept. 20, 1812. (Maybe her name was Newell?)
SYRACUSE, ONONDAGA COUNTY, NY Herald American Newspaper, August 24, 1997 excerpted Camillus Octagon House, 5420 W. Genesee Street, Camillus, NY (Aka Rte 5) Built 1856 and on National Registery of Historic Places. The original owner was Isaiah Wilcox, a retired businessman and farmer and deacon of the Camillus Baptist Church, who built the house on 138 acres of land, much of which was apple orchards. A nearby housing develpment Orchard Village was named after this. Wilcox got his idea from Orson Fowler's book, "The Octagon House, A Home for All." The walls are 22 " thick of cobblestone and concrete. Wilcox, and his wife, Ann Sherman, their son George and their daughter Mary, lived at the house untill 1899. A year later the Fox family bought the house and 40 acres for $1. $250,000 worth of renovations were completed and the house opened to the public 6 years ago. For more information, contact Betty Campbell (315)488-7800 Does anyone know which line Isaiah Wilcox connects to? Wilcox/Sherman would seem to point to the RI group. Sharon
John Willcockson married Daniel Boone's sister, Sarah, in 1742 in or near Berks County PA. John had a brother named George. It is possible that he also had a brother named Isaac. The identity of John's parents or his place of birth have not been conclusively proven even though researchers have sought to do it for, at least, 75 years. If you can, please help solve that mystery (excluding reference to Dorothy Wulfeck's book). Reg Wilcox
Joseph Wilcoxson, b. c. 1635 in Stratfield, CT to William Wilcoxson and Margaret, married ? and had children: Joseph(b. 29 Oct 1659 in Killingsworth, CT), Thomas *b. 11/13/1661 d. May 1694 unmarried*, Samuel *b. 1663*, Hannah *1/19/1665*, Nathaniel *8/29/1668*, William *1/9/1671*, Margaret *1673*, and John *1675*. I have seen two different mothers for Joseph, Jr.: Anna Mitchell and Margaret Sheather. Is there proof for which is correct? Also, William's wife Margaret: was her maiden name Birdseye or Harvey? Thank you for your help. Hal Bradley Hi Hal, I have added to the above, note the * * The book I have has the last name (in pencil where the blank line is) Birdseye for the last name of Margaret on page 26. On page 27 #3 Joseph, second son of William has the name Sheather penciled in for the last name of his wife Ann. I don't know where this person got the information. It does not cite source. The book states: Joseph, second son of William Wilcoxson, born about 1636 at Concord, Mass. Brought by his parents to Stratford, Conn. in 1639. Married in Stratford, about 1658, Ann Sheather. He removed to Killingworth in 1665 and died there in 1689. The orginal papers in the settlement of his estate are on file in the Connecticutt State Library, Hartford, Conn., number 5717. The widow Ann Wilcoxson was still alive in 1708 when she petitioned for custody of her Farnum (children of her daughter Hannah and her first husband Peter Farnham) grandchildren. And it lists their children. Hope this helps. Ruth
