Have any of you ever seen or heard that Rachel WILCOXSON, daughter of John WILCOXSON and Sarah BOONE (d/o Squire and Sarah MORGAN BOONE) was married prior to her marriage to William BRYANT? Received a letter recently from a fellow in California who had seen some of my records I left at KY Hist Soc and wanted my comments on the idea that - 1. William BRYANT was born 1754 in NC not 1739 2. That Marriage in 1784 would say they waited seven years before their first child - Jeremiah born Aug 1791 in SC 3. He believes marriage was in Fairfield Co. SC in Oct 1790 4. Rachel was first married to ___???___ Milar in 1778. 5. Rachel and Unknown Milar had 2 childrenm James Milar (m. Henrietta Jett) and Rachel Milar (m. Stephen Jett) He further says "Rachel Wilcoxson's first marriage to Unknown MILAR about 1778 in NC. They moved to SC. Unknown MILAR was killed 1789 by Indians. Unknown MILAR and William BRYANT had similar experiences, involving D.Boone and were probably good friends. "William Bryant went to SC to tell Rachel of the death of her husband and stayed to help on the farm and in October 1790, Rachel married William Bryant in Fairfield Co. SC. Stayed in SC until 1796 and moved to BRiant's Station, Fayette Co. KY. Shortley after the marriage of Rachel's daughter Rachel MILAR to Stephen JETT the BRYANT family moved to MO. "All children of the BRYANT marriage were born between 1791-1802." Have you ever heard such a story? Most of my info has been copied from others and I have not yet proven my facts myself. Any help will be appreciated. Norma Nyberg [email protected]
Hi again all, I'm sorry, maybe my post was misleading. I have no connection with Heritage Books, Ms. Osborne, or this sale other than -- 1) I *want* this book and it's been out of print for several years and 2) The more people show an interest in a reprint, the more likely we are to get it. I just thought the WILCOX-L list was the best place to put this information. If you're interested in buying this book, I'd suggest that you write to Heritage Books, (their s-mail address is Heritage Books, Inc., 1540-E Pointer Ridge Pl., Bowie, MD 20716) and tell them you want to reserve a copy. They also have a website at: http://www.heritagebooks.com/index.htm, so you could try e-mailing them to tell them of your interest. Sorry for any confusion. Happy Hunting! I am a dec of John and Sarah Wilcoxson through their son William. Last year I joined the DAR with John Wilcoxson as my Vet. My line is: John, William, Daniel, Jesse, Elias, Amos Jack, Elgie Ray, and Dexter Ray, all carrying the Wilcoxson name. I used published books as proof for the first 3 generations. After that, I have documentation (census records, birth, marriage and death records) If anyone is interested in any of these names, I will be happy to share.

Does family folklore say that you might be related to Daniel BOONE? Here's how you may find out. Take a look at the BOONE web site: http://personal.bhm.bellsouth.net/bhm/s/h/sharrah/boone.html Double click the Related Surnames Index; then pick W of course. There were several marriages between BOONES and WILCOX/ WILCOXSONS. Good luck. Bill in sunny Phoenix Hunting for Abraham WILCOX ( 1774 - 1859) in PA, KY, and MO. [email protected]
Looking for Levi WILCOX last seen in Tacoma (WA) City Directory 1896 with two youngest children, Odelia aka Delia, and Arthur. Arthur was known to me and died in 1955 and is buried in Stevens County, WA. Levi's wife, Elizabeth (formerly ALKIRE) died in 1893 and is buried in Pioneer Cemetery, Sumner, WA alongside Baby BURKE. Levi & Elizabeth's son Charles Edward, age 19, commited suicide in 1892 over death of his betrothed, Julie Ellende GUSTAFSON, age 16, and they are buried in Tacoma. A daughter Catherine, aka Kitty, was either a divorcee or widow when she married Jay STILLMAN in Tacoma, Washington in 1889. She was listed in Charles obituary along with her daughter, a Mrs. PARNELL. Kitty also ran a Millinery shop in Tacoma up to at least 1914/15 according to the city directories. Levi & Elizabeth also had daughter Laura Z. who married to a BURKE in Tacoma. Levi & Elizabeth's son George Benjamin is my great grandfather and he & my grandmother Rebecca Jane "Jennie" formerly DOUGHERTY (his wife) are buried in Stevens County (WA). There were a total of 12 children but some stayed in Illinois & Nebraska. I believe some of my mother's WILCOX cousins are in the Ellensburg WA) and Port Orchard (WA) areas. Any help on this elusive family of mine will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you. GRANDMA AND THE FAMILY TREE There's been a change in Grandma, we've noticed her of late, She's always reading history or jotting down some date. She's tracking back the family, we'll all have pedigrees. Oh, Grandma's got a hobby, she's climbing Family Trees. Poor Grandpa does the cooking and now, or so he states, That worst of all, he has to wash the cups and dinner plates. Grandma can't be bothered, she's busy as a bee Compiling genealogy - for the Family Tree. She has no time to baby-sit, the curtains are a fright, No buttons left on Grandad's shirt, the flower bed's a sight. She's given up her club work, the serials on TV, The only thing she does nowadays is climb the Family Tree. She goes down to the courthouse and studies ancient lore, We know more about our forebears than we ever knew before. The books are old and dusty, they make poor Grandma sneeze, A minor irritation when you're climbing Family Trees. The mail is all for Grandma, it comes from near and far, Last week she got the proof she needs to join the DAR. A worthwhile avocation, to that we all agree, A monumental project, to climb the Family Tree. Now some folks came from Scotland and some from Galway Bay, Some were French as pastry, some German, all the way. Some went on west to stake their claim, some stayed near by the sea, Grandma hopes to find them all as she climbs the Family Tree. She wanders through the graveyard in search of date or name, The rich, the poor, the in-between, all sleeping there the same. She pauses now and then to rest, fanned by a gentle breeze That blows above the Fathers of all our Family Trees. There were pioneers and patriots mixed in our kith and kin Who blazed the paths of wilderness and fought through thick and thin. But none more staunch than Grandma, whose eyes light up with glee Each time she finds a missing branch for the Family Tree. Their skills were wide and varied, from carpenter to cook And one (Alas!) the record shows was hopelessly a crook. Blacksmith, weaver, farmer, judge, some tutored for a fee, Long lost in time, now all recorded on the Family Tree. To some it's just a hobby, to Grandma it's much more, She knows the joys and heartaches of those who went before. They loved, they lost, they laughed, they wept, and now for you and me They live again in spirit, around the Family Tree. At last she's nearly finished and we are each exposed. Life will be the same again, this we all supposed! Grandma will cook and sew, serve cookies with our tea. We'll all be fat, just as before that wretched Family Tree. Sad to relate, the Preacher called and visited for a spell, We talked about the Gospel, and other things as well, The heathen folk, the poor and then - 'twas fate, it had to be, Somehow the conversation turned to Grandma and the Family Tree. We tried to change the subject, we talked of everything But then in Grandma's voice we heard that old familiar ring. She told him all about the past and soon was plain to see The preacher, too, was nearly snared by Grandma and the Family Tree. He never knew his Grandpa, his mother's name was ... Clark? He and Grandma talked and talked, outside it grew quite dark. We'd hoped our fears were groundless, but just like some disease, Grandma's become an addict - she's hooked on Family Trees! Our souls were filled with sorrow, our hearts sank with dismay, Our ears could scarce believe the words we heard our Grandma say, "It sure is a lucky thing that you have come to me, I know exactly how it's done, I'll climb your Family Tree!" Author Unknown Thought quite a few of us could relate!! This was on another list and thought I'd pass it on.
